My cat Max needs your help.....

Please keep my kitty, Max, in your thoughts and prayers. He has been my friend and close companion for over fifteen years. He has been vomiting and not acting his normal self. I took him to the vet last week and he had lost three pounds. The vet did blood work which all came back normal. Max has had a funky tummy in the past so they gave him a shot of steroids, which has always worked before.

He perked up a little but was still lethargic. I took him to the vet this morning, and his temp is normal, his lungs sound good and on exam things seem okay except he has lost two ounces. They gave him an IV because he is dehydrated.

They suggested an ultrasound which I am waiting for them to call with an appointment time.

I went through this just a few months ago with Foxy...15 years old, and doing fine now. Like humans, the vomiting can cause dehydration.

Hang in there, and you both have my prayers.

Lisa, what a horrible situation. I feel so bad for the cats and your wildlife. They are always the ones that suffer because of ignorant pet owners. Anyway, there is an organization called Crash's Landing. It is a no kill cat rescue in Grand Rapids. Here is the link: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/MI275.html I noticed that they have changed their policy and now only accept cats 6 months or older. They have so many homeless and abandoned cats/kittens. You may want to call them. You may be able to talk her into taking the kittens or she may know of someone that can help you. I know what will happen to the kittens at the animal control. (sometimes I think they are better off than being left alone to try and survive outside)The woman that runs the organization is a vet, she is awesome! I have 4 cats (all inside) because of stupid pet owners. All were abandoned. Someone dropped off a litter of kittens in the soy bean field across the street from my home. We could only find one of the kittens. My husband brought him home. The other 3 were taken in because they were starving to death. Oh geezz, I wish people would take care of their pets!! I came downstairs this morning and discovered that one of the cats had peed on top of an antique table during the night. I have a tendency to blame Annie, but this time she was locked up, and so was Rocky. Pogo and Annie were so skittish this morning. Pogo usually spends some time in my bedroom after I get up, but he didn't stay this time. Peachy was afraid to come downstairs. They were nervous, and I was nervous. I played with Rocky a lot before Pogo and Peachy joined us downstairs, hoping to discharge some of his energy. He has an abundance of it. Then a few minutes ago Peachy (much smaller than Rocky) hissed at him, and he took a step toward her. That was all it took to make me want to put an end to this situation, at least for now. So I put Rocky outside. I know he'll want to come in. I have loved seeing him enjoying the comforts of home. But we'll try this for awhile, and continue to give the situation some thought. At least in the warm weather Rocky will have lots of human companionship outdoors, as we're a family of gardeners. I cancelled the vet appointment. Annie has never been easy to handle, and when I showed up she hid under the bed. The last thing I want is to risk another cat bite. I changed the dressing this morning, and my hand and wrist are swollen, red, and hot. I hope the Augmentin takes care of the infection. My thanks again to all.

How funny! I had wiped Luna with a wet towel before I posted my question. Her fur was a little weird looking and stiff on her underside. Then I brushed her and gave her a few treats. I thought that Wren was sleeping but maybe she was watching me and getting progressively more bitter. After I posted, I brushed Wren like crazy and gave her a few treats. There hasn't been anymore hissing so maybe it was a smell/jealousy thing. Thanks so much everyone! I hope they'll go back to loving/squabbling like all good sisters do, LOL. Danielle

Need help fighting fleas on my cat

I have been very happy with a non-toxic trick I use to get fleas out of carpets. Before you go to bed, take a shallow, shiny metal pan - I use a pie pan - half fill it with water and a couple of drops of dish soap. This breaks the surface tension of the water. then aim a light directly into the pan. Since it is the only light source, the fleas jump toward the light and then fall into the water and drown. When you wake up you'll see lots of drowned fleas in the bottom of the pan. I just kept doing it until we stopped catching fleas, and moved it into different rooms every night or two. I haven't had fleas in 10 years, since I moved to the High Desert but recently moved back into an area that is less desert and more suburb. Low and behold, a flea has been spotted! just another reason to not be excited about living in town. Good to know that they could have been carried in from elsewhere and my dog isn't to blame. has he been eating, drinking his water? my one kitty has but has had an awful time with fur balls this summer...i think it never got hot enough for him to shed like he normally does...btw has he "misbehaved" not using the cat box?

The same thing happened with our cat, now almost 13 years old. After blood tests and x-rays, the vet found no cause for his being ill. They pumped him up with a steroid injection and fluid injections on 2 different visits (you could feel a slight hump in his back, kind of like a camel).

He wouldn't eat so I tempted him with his favorite thing in the whole world - and yes, I got the vet's OK - he loves Sam's Club 90% lean ground chuck, uncooked (raw). Yes, you read that right, it must be from Sam's Club because he can tell the difference.

That was 6 weeks ago and now he is right as rain. I hope your Max will recover too, keep the faith.

Good thoughts coming Max's way!

If he is vomitting, losing weight but responds to steroids, ask your vet about the possibility of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Hope everything goes OK with the ultrasound.

Same thing happened with my Rex, They did the ultrasound, and they were pretty positive that he had liver cancer, with 3-4 months to live. Here we are a year later, and he is doing great.
Don't lose hope.... and I will keep Max in my prayers.

BTW>>>did they check his thyroid??

Thank you for all of your good thoughts. Max is scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon. He has had blood work done checking for diabetes, thyroid and elevated counts. Everything has come back normal. He is still using his litter box, although not often, because he has not eaten much. He drinks and is urinating fine. He has had half of his thyroid removed a couple of years ago.
I hope all goes well tomorrow.
