Flea, fleas & more fleas! Help!
Comments (6)I'd be very surprised if these are actual fleas just hanging out in the garden and not flea beetles. Real fleas want to be on something warm-blooded, not garden soil. Flea beetles really look and move like animal fleas. It's a little creepy. Mustard also is said to work as a trap crop for flea beetles, especially if it is planted sparsely in a dry, hot, open place. Certainly seems to be looking like the Year of the Flea Beetle! Several local people that I've talked to are having really bad problems this year. The flea beetles are actually doing significant damage on young plants, rather than light damage on their normal victims (eggplant, peppers, etc). They also seem to be the dusk feeding variety around here. It makes me wonder if the dusk-feeding subspecies from Kenya has just arrived in the USA. Wish I could find more information about it. Well, Steve, hope your plants recover! Bellatrix...See MoreCat Fight! This was not a game
Comments (8)No they've been here since we moved in two years ago. They don't fight over food or sleeping spots, but I do think that I did fuel the fight in some way. Plus last night they weren't really rattling, Dustin clawed my thigh trying to get to Muffin. I think the fight probably wouldn't have happened if I didn't grab Muffin to help her get back on her feet. I've helped the cats before if they slip, sometimes on a window sill, just grab them around the ribcage, just under the arms, and lift them up high enough to get back on four paws. Muffin was hanging over the computer tower, her belly on the top with front legs on one side and back legs on the other and was scraping her claws on the metal case trying to pull herself up. Now this is a regular case about 2-2.5 feet high sitting on the floor, that they both sleep on regularly, I don't know why she got frightened which is why I think she was half-asleep/almost all asleep when she shifted position and started to fall off. I think she freaked and when I picked her up she had a frantic energy that set Dustin off possibly fueled by my proximity (maybe he thought she was going after me). They are running free now, this morning Dustin was whining to get into my bedroom so I let him and she came down from her cat tower and they kinda sniffed each other, walked a bit tentatively around each other and then seemed to forget everything when the dogs got up. With two teenage puppies running around the cats have other things to pay attention to, lol. They don't wrestle often with each other but if they do and one starts to hiss or spit I'll just call out 'HEY!' and they step away from each other and then aren't interested in it anymore. Next time I'll probably let them get up by themselves but seeing them scrambling, clawing at something to pull themselves up on, if they seem to struggle a bit too long I feel bad for them and just give them a hand. I'll keep a can of coins/air around just in case....See MoreHelp - my cat was in a fight and is now sick???
Comments (7)Well, we're baack! He's ok. Turns out he was also bit on his haunch (hip). But neither bite was infected and no fever, so happy about that. Was real concerned this A.M. cuz when I picked him up, he screamed as tho his tummy hurt. So thought he had internal damage. But that was just bruising from hip bite hurting. Vet said even picking up under his arms can hurt his hip since their skin is different than ours...so it pulls on hurt area. Calliope, u were right about the pain putting him off his food. At least that's what vet thinks. She gave him both an antibiotic and pain shot since didn't wanna give him pain pills on upset tummy. And I'm to call her tomorrow with update. He's still not himself but he's contentedly asleep in a basket I put in bathroom. So thanks again for all y'alls help. Bonnie...See MoreMy cat got hurt by another cat! Help!!
Comments (17)Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me your advise. Last night I continued with pedialyte and he ate some more. This morning his appetite seems to be getting better. He's still somewhat lethargic and still limping noticeably but less than yesterday. He's eating canned food, but noticed his gums are somewhat pale, is that normal? He's still getting pain medicine and his wound isn't swollen . It seems like he's getting better but just worried about his gums....See Morerochesterroseman
