So, so cute!! I can just picture my cat doing that. I had a small 1/2 case of wine box sitting on the floor and yes, Rocket hopped right in. He is really too big for it, but it didn't stop him from getting in it. He loves boxes.

I think this fits. If you want outdoor cats, then you'd better put up with your garden being a cat litter box. It is, after all, used as a litter box by all the other outdoor creatures there. Yes, Toxoplasmosis is often carried by feral cats, but it's also carried by the majority of farm animals, and lots of rodents and birds. How much squirrel poop do you have in your garden? Cook your meat, and wash your hands and your veggies. Just because your cats aren't using your garden as a litter box doesn't mean that your garden is sterile.

This is for anyone who thinks less of someone for putting down a cat or dog. My grandfather was a vet. I grew up around animals -- dogs, cats, farm animals. It is never an easy decision to put a pet out of its misery. We just had our lovely black cat of 15 plus years put down today. We had him treated for a urinary tract infection and he was still peeing and pooping outside the box. He started to hide. He could not jump up on the bed as well as he used to. He was in pain, if for no other reason, arthritis in his back legs and spine. My husband is disabled and was very distraught over his special bed buddy having to be put down, but he made the ultimate decision. My husband and I could no longer clean up after our aged cat. The vet said that our "Junior" was in pain. For the one person who commented something to the effect that when one gets old (a person) I hope he gets put down, I just wish someone would do that for me. We treat our animals, our pets, many times more humanely than we do people. My grandfather would have been the first to say that Junior is hurting, his quality of life is not as good as it has been. Would you want him to continue to suffer? This is what the vet told us today. It is never easy, but as people, as the so-called image of God, we have a responsibility to animals to relieve them of suffering. Junior had bladder problems, and possible liver failure and for a 15-plus year cat, he lived a good life. Can we or should we judge those who are faced with this decision? For anyone who is facing this issue, please assess the quality of life of your pet. Does he enjoy the same things he used to do? Has his litter box or potty habits changed? Does he eat, drink, and play ( at least a little)? When you go to work and come back home, is your beloved pet in the same spot as when you left in the morning? If so, you may want a vet's impartial opinion. I only hope I have someone who will make such a decision for me when the time comes. We are all God's creatures and deserve the best that life can offer and that includes a painless and humane exit to our respective heavens. I only hope I meet all my pets when its my time to check out.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to try using one of those steraline tubs and cut a hole in the side for easy entry. I cant really move the box, the bathroom is to small and this box is in the only room that does not have carpet, there are several more down here in the basement but he does not come down here much. My two female cats stay down here most of the time (my office is down here) they do pick on him (they have claws) he outweighs them by a ton but he's kinda a wimp. So the 3 other cats use mostly the boxes down here but will also use "his" box upstairs. He does at times come down here and wee outside the boxes. It's a sealed concrete floor that slopes to a drain I can just wash down with water Yes we have seen him actually do the deed however he does often wee over the top of the box too. I noticed the health food store in town has that feliway and I will try that as well. I am laughing at the Prozac, maybe just give it to hubby instead LOL, seriously though will talk to the vet about it! Honestly this is hubbys favorite cat and the only one of the 4 HE brought home. .Abby is safe till spring at least, it is 0 outside now and the ground is frozen solid, I heard him tell Abby he better "get it together before he can dig him a hole" he calls him Junior so he really does love his cat.I have told hubby he will have to make that decision because I will not, his response was "you want me to make the decision so you can hate me forever for killing the cat" UUUGGGGG I wish the cat had a 401K, pension and SS......we would have no problem.

I thought that was a hobby!! :D I would agree with elly_nj. As far as I understand it, many little pees might indicate an infection. But generally each animal is different. I tend to monitor for change once I know what's normal for each kitty in my life. I have one boy that likes to hold on til he leaves a cluster the size of my head (almost) in the litter box because he prefers to pee outside. My other guy will visit to box 3 or 4 times with moderate piles left behind every time. But it's worth a trip to the vet if you see any straining to pee, or if it's just going to keep you up at night. There's also that litter that's designed to change colour if there is infection present in the urine. Has anyone tried it? Does it work?? G'luck Lisa

I watched it 3 times....FUNNY! I think I need a cyber cat....ya know....no cat box...won't kill my birds...won't hate me when I leave for 3 weeks at a time & put it in a kennel.....:0)

Hilarious cartoon! And so true to real life. Soon as a box gets put on the floor (and yes we do it deliberately) the 3 of them go over and sniff the heck out of it, and Roxie is usually the first to get in it.
It could be any of the 3 at any one time though.

What a cute cartoon. Love that Dr. Pepper shot, Mary. Here's my box cat. I am careful with boxes with flaps fearing she'll get her neck caught. Daisy also likes to crawl inside plastic bags, so I usually keep those up and away from her.

We flew to Texas to visit my in laws and thought we'd take our cat. The vet gave us tranquilizers to use to make it less stressful for the cat. We flew TWA and they gave us a cardboard cat carrier to use and we sat by the bulkhead for the extra legroom. About 2/3 of the way through the trip the tranquilizer wore off and we started to hear hissing sounds from the box and then that awful cry a cat makes when it's mad.

The box had the TWA letters cut out of the sides and before long we noticed the cat was gnawing through the letters. Then he stood up and arched his back and broke the cardboard binding strips on the top. We spent the last 30 minutes of the flight holding the top of the box shut and hoping the cat wouldn't gnaw an escape hole on the side.

I don't know if all cats do this when they're scared but our cat seemed to lose hair - so we sat there and watched as his hair seemed to float around the cabin. My DH was positive someone with an allergy to cats would break out in hives. We didn't dare open the box to give him another pill - you know how difficult it is to do it under normal circumstances.

So for the trip home we bought a real carrier - at least we knew he wouldn't escape.

Never again.

No fair, Maire. I'm at work. In a library. Where one is supposed to be quiet. But your story made me LOL. Once I got to the part where the cat hair is flying around the cabin, I couldn't control it. Oops.....I'm gonna start again.......

I've noticed that when we take cats to the vet there seems to be a loss of hair involved. On the vet table, in the car, on those black pants I stupidly wore, etc.
