Cat using raised bed as litter box
Comments (10)Ahh but these parasites, if they exist, will survive how long exposed to the elements? Plus this assumes that no parasites already exist normally with in soil. They do. tapeworms, whipworms, roundworm, hookworms, misc. protoza, to name just a few. Not to mention all the bacteria and fungi. As mentioned "Gardens grow in dirt" and it will never be a sterile process, nor would it work if it was. Thus the "wash your hands and wash your food" guideline in gardening. While pregnant women are advised to avoid dealing with litter boxes due to the possibility of toxoplasmosis they are also advised not to raise chickens or other fowl or be exposed to manures while pregnant due to histoplasmosis, not to work with garden chemicals, and many other things. But we aren't talking about pregnant women and the OP has already pointed out that they are not growing root vegetables or other low growing crops. So scare warnings about unrelated issues serve no point. Dave...See Morecat using garden as litter box
Comments (6)This topic comes up a lot on various forums here at Gardenweb. Check out the linked thread below, especially the posts near the end of the thread. There are photos of one person's solution. The garden mesh mentioned in this thread works pretty well and is non-toxic. Chicken wire also works, but shows through the mulch a little more easily. Comments (8)Actually, she has no sight at all...for years, she had minimal sight but I can tell that it's gone. She bumps into things a lot whereas before, not too much. She doesn't flinch at all when you try to make her blink. I took her to the vets and they ran blood tests and her thyroid levels are too high. They want to increase her meds but one vet wants to confer with the other one on this given her medical history. Another reason I have to keep her separated is when I put her meds in her wet food, if she doesn't eat it right away, one of the other cats will finish off her wet food. I spend quality time with her by keeping the other two out of my bedroom. I pick her up and just hold her in my arms and she purrs so sweetly. They also did chest x-rays because the vet thought her breathing was labored. Turns out her lungs are clear but he said it looks like her heart is enlarged. Waiting for final results on this. When I'm home, I bring her out into the sunroom and I can monitor her but the problem is the other cats sometimes jump on her to initiate play and she will cry out, then I have to rescue her as the other cats do not realize her age and condition. It's really a tough situation but I'm trying to work it out. I have to make sure I'm not neglecting my other 2 cats-:). Here is a pic of my other cats! They have the life-;)...See MoreCat not using litter box
Comments (10)Our cat Jack had this problem, too, but his poop had a lot of mucus in it. Our vet said that he had colitis (irritated colon) and switched him to prescription low-residue food. He thought that our cat had probably associated his litterbox with the discomfort he felt when pooping, thus the reason for avoiding it. The new food was better for him, and we didn't have trouble with him going outside the box anymore, as long as we kept him on the prescription food. Once Jack was healthy, the vet said that we could try gradually switching him back to his regular food (we had two cats, so feeding them different foods was inconvenient), but the same issues would reoccur. So (gross as it may be!) before you take him to the vet, take a good look at his poop for mucus, blood or anything else unusual so you will be ready if your vet asks you about it....See Morediane13
