Gosh, I remember using a fountain pen and a bottle of ink to write. I agree with "change a tire". i've never done it. I once threw out the tire jack in my trunk because I thought it was some left over piece of junk from an auto repair. DH had a fit, and insisted we buy another "just in case". Well, just in case, I belong to AAA.They are just a phone call away in any weather, and they know all about donuts and spare tires and all that stuff.

I agree with parallel park, although changing a tire is a very good answer, too.

I loved fountain pens!!!! I remember the little inkwell, then they changed to the plastic cartridges.

They wrote so smooth, but the ink had to dry.

I drove tractor/trailer for almost ten years, most of that time running double team with another driver running all 48 staes and part of Canada. We could run Ney York to L.A, Calif in 3-1/2 days and we logged in excess of 200,000 miles a year, I could write a book about what most ppl in cars don't know about driving,,,LOL

I think we can rule out parallel parking because you have to do that for a driving test and in truth the way parking is today, the driving test was probably the last time you had need of that skill.

Changing a tire seems to be the most obvious answer, although I think proper use of a merging lane to enter traffic on a freeway should be right up there.

Check the oil? Read a map?

I've been finding people in their 20's and early 30's do not know how to parallel park because Drivers ED stopped teaching it years ago (in CA). I had to teach my boys when they were learning to drive.

Oh Lazypup, I especially like it when they pass a truck, then immediately slow down, cut in front of you, or try to get up tight to the corner when you're turning right.

Lazypup, I'm in CA and parallel parking is not a part of the driving test and hasn't been for many years.

That's why I thought of parallel parking. We don't have to do it so much anymore and we've all forgotten how to do it. The other thing we don't have to do any more is:

Hand signals.

Negotiate to buy a vehicle.

I've always heard that most people don't know how to properly install a car seat.

use a turning signal...you know that little arm thingy that's usually on the left side of the steering column??? just kidding...but it is a sore spot with me...
