The Kitchen Table

Do I have too...I don't wanna...Not happening....Capris...

Exactly, I don't wanna hide my capris in the closet...only because the calendar says it's time..no, not yet! Can anyone afford or find gas to drive to the beach just to wear them and what do you mean....it's after Labor Day and I can't wear....whatever!

when do you say...the season has ended for this or that..and pack it up or move it to the other side of "his" closet!

I used to have two sides of the closet, but the past few years we've had summer like days in December as well as winter temperatures in May, so everything is within easy reach. Heck, if I want to, I'll continue to wear my white Birkenstock sandals.

:) at Linda. I wear white, red, and an assortment of Birkenstock sandals year round (but with warm heavy socks in the winter).

Whatever I wear, is in season as far as I am concerned. ;)

I have nine grapefruit....but I don't like grapefruit...

Well, I can't find the recipe I was thinking about, but I found these online and they are similar. Grapefruit Granita 2 cups Florida pink grapefruit juice 1/4 cup sugar 4 mint leaves 4 fresh Florida pink grapefruit slices In saucepan, combine grapefruit juice and sugar. Bruise mint leaves between fingers and add to saucepan. Bring mixture to just boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat, cover and let stand 5 minutes. Remove mint leaves. Pour grapefruit mixture into ice cube trays; freeze. Just before serving, place a single layer of frozen cubes in food processor fitted with steel blade. Pulse 12 times or until no large chunks of ice remain. Spoon granita into stemmed glasses. Garnish with grapefruit slice. Repeat with remaining cubes. Serve immediately. Serves 4. Grapefruit Granita A web\-exclusive recipe from Italian Cooking and Living 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup water 2 1/2 cups red or pink grapefruit juice, bottled or fresh squeezed 2 tsp. lemon juice, preferably fresh squeezed Sprig of mint to garnish In a medium saucepan, add the water and the sugar and stir to combine; make sure to put the stirring spoon aside. Heat the mixture over medium high heat without stirring until mixture reaches a boil. Again, without stirring, cook mixture for about 5 minutes or until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. When cool, add the grapefruit and lemon juice and stir with a clean spoon. Pour the mixture into a 9x12" or other large, flat dish so that the mixture doesn't come up too high along the sides of the pan\-you will need room for stirring. Place the pan in the freezer, making sure it is level, for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, carefully remove pan and place it on a steady surface. Use a fork to stir the mixture thoroughly, making sure to break up any ice crystals that have formed along the side or bottom of container. Return the pan to the freezer and repeat the stirring every 30 minutes, making sure you break up any large chunks that form, for 3 to 4 hours or until mixture is thoroughly frozen. Fluff with a fork and spoon into small coffee cups or ice cream dishes. Garnish with mint. Serve immediately or return to the freezer in serving dishes for up to 4 days. Serves 6 Champagne Grapefruit Sorbet 3 cups good quality Champagne 1 cup sugar 1 1/4 cups water 1 cup pink grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed 1/3 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed Pop cork from champagne bottle 1 to 2 hours before using. Gradually pour champagne, allowing for foaming, into a 2-quart container; set aside. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until mixture comes to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand approximately 10 minutes or until cool. To champagne, add sugar syrup, grapefruit juice, and lemon juice (do not strain pulp from juices); stir until thoroughly blended. Ice Cream Maker - Transfer mixture to ice cream maker, process according to manufacturer's instructions. Freezer Method - Pour into container, cover, and place mixture in the freezer. When it is semi-solid, mash it up with a fork and refreeze again. When frozen, place in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Cover and refreeze until serving time. NOTE: Can be prepared 3 days in advance. Cover and keep frozen. Makes 8 to 10 servings. Linda

My Day....Feb 29th...Hope I don't get to do a do over

I wish I could be more supportive but it's really hard to make friends as an adult. My 8 year old just has to walk outside and he can find someone to play with. It doesn't matter if they know each other or not - they instantly start talking and find some common ground. The adults rarely come outside and most won't even make eye contact with each other! I became isolated when I was married because my husband was very paranoid and it just because easier to lose touch with friends than deal with his jealousy. Now that I'm single again, I don't even know where to start. I have lots of acquaintances locally, but no sounding boards. Even my mom passed away just over a year ago. It does leave a gaping hole in your life but it's not an easy one to fill.

My old Boxer having siezures - I don't know what to do
Q
Comments (46)
I have an 8 year old Boxer, Millie, that had her first seizure just over a year ago. It was long and violent and tortuous to watch lasting well over 3 minutes. I immediately took her to the vet and he started her on Phenobarbital and Valium. She had several more smaller ones until the levels were where they needed to be. In the year since she's had dozens, some worse than others, and we've added Potassium Bromide to the mix. She continues to have small focal seizures lasting a few seconds almost daily. She was hospitalized last month with Pancreatitis. While there she had one larger and one smaller seizure. Since she's come home she seems to be deteriorating. She sleeps most of the days away. She has difficulty walking, stumbles or falls when she stands still for more than a few seconds, bumps into things and has fallen down the stairs. She seems to be losing control or strength in her hind legs. Last night she fell asleep at my feet and then couldn't stand or walk for a couple of minutes when she woke. This morning, on the other hand, she came as close to running as she has in a while to go outside and potty and play for a moment. It was brief. She's eating well, looks and sounds a good as ever which makes it that much harder to wonder "How much is enough for her?" I guess that's what I'm looking for, advice on "enough". She is our absolute favorite person in the world and is loved beyond measure. As terrified as I am about her leaving us, I am more afraid that she's suffering as she is. I've never had to even consider this for a pet so I'm lost to the rationale of it. How do you know when they've had enough?

My flats are drying out too fast....I don't want to water them everyd
Q

I think I gave some flats too much drainage or ventilation slits....it seems like I have to water them almost every day, what can I do? This is an easy fix! I never put more than five or six drainage slits in a flat, but even so that might sometimes be too much. So to fix that I pick up the flat and dry its bottom off with a paper towel, then I take a piece of duct tape or white bandage tape and simply tape over a couple of the drainage holes. The tape does a great job of sealing the slits enough that the excess drainage is slowed down. If you've put too many slits or holes in the cover for air transpiration you could tape some over with clear packing tape, or even easier, just toss out that cover and make new one. How do I make a new cover? Take your flat and slip it into a baggie or ziploc bag. Close the baggie with a twist tie or knot. Take a paring knife and make a few slits in the bottom for drainage and make some slits in the top for air transpiration too. If you use a ziploc bag you can keep the zipper open a bit and make just a few slits in the the top. Trudi

I'm like Linda. I keep both in my closet. I also wear whatever I want. I'm still wearing Capris and sandals because it's been in the 80's last week and this. I DO NOT want to give into Winter any sooner than I have to.

My wardrobe is basically the same year round...I might break out a sweatshirt if it's a bit chilly in the winter but not often.Since I moved to El Paso...I wear shorts, capris and jeans all yeaar. So funny...we go to the store and everyone has HEAVY winter coats on and there's me and Larry in jeans and a T-shirt..We aren't cold in 50 or 60 degree weaather, our bodies are still used to PA weaather! 50 or 60 isn't "cold"...

I don't know who the "they" is as in "they" say. I have on capris right now and I'm taking a friend to lunch. If it's in my closet, and it fits, it's in style. I don't have the time or inclination to pay any attention to "what's in style" That is so silly. Wear what you like and what does it matter what anybody else thinks?

I've gotten to the point....if it isn't worn out and it still fits...I wear it..It's either that or I wouldn't have anything to wear.....I'd have to go without...and I don't think this world's ready to see that...

Ditto what the people above me have said. If it's clean & fits, it goes on my body. My mother said if you put on a little lipstick, nearly anything looks and feels good. :)

What pattico said. I don't have the funds to let 'others' dictate what I do or do not wear. Neat, clean, decent.
That's all it takes. Wear what you like enjoy!

DOING THE HAPPY DANCE NOW! I'm so glad to hear all of these positive "GO FOR IT GIRL" statements! I LOVE IT!
Especially Mom's advice "put on a little lipstick" that is so true!

You can put your Old Rusty Bucket in whatever makes you happy. If you go by what's "in style" you will have your belly hanging out and your britches will be slung so low your undies will show. If I were to wear fall clothes now just because the calendar says so I would burn up. Too hot here for that.

I think "they" are the ones that want my money in their pocket, Nope, not me, I wear what I want, when I want. Color doesn't matter, and here in the Dallas area its never to cold.

It is funny though, to watch people, when I worked at WalMart if we got a slightly chilly day, you'd see everything from shorts and tank tops to parkas!
