Help me TWEAK this poem...

I'm going to a retirement party next month where 19 of my co-workers are retiring...I'm trying to come up with a poem..

here's what I have so far...It's awful...but it's a work in progress and I know someone from here can surely help me fix it!! Thanks loads!

"So youÃ¯Â¿Â½re gonna retireÃ¯Â¿Â½is that what you sayÃ¯Â¿Â½

Throw out those redbooks and call it a day

No more grumpy passengers calling you Miss

From now till eternity itÃ¯Â¿Â½s them you can diss

No more fish, steak or chicken

No more drinks to throw out

No more pillows and blankets

You gave it your best without a doubt

no more early mornings...no more late nights...

stop dreaming of city codes and remembering flights

Give those feet a rest and the back and arms too

Forget about Jet Lag, forget the stew lounge

Forget looking for food and forget tryin to scrounge

So hang up your wings, put yourself in the seat

And Enjoy your retirement, for itÃ¯Â¿Â½s no small feat

You know you will miss usÃ¯Â¿Â½but itÃ¯Â¿Â½s really okÃ¯Â¿Â½

Cause youÃ¯Â¿Â½ve gone and retired and CALLED IT A DAY!

We've got photo frames with the company logo on them and we'll take pictures of each person at the retirement party but I wanted to present the frames with at least something in them!

I thought it was quite good and only needed a little tidying to fix the scansion. There seemed to be a line missing- at least there was one without a rhyme so I made one up. Anyway, here's my version, hope you like it but I won't be in the slightest offended if you don't :-)

So youÂre gonna retire-is that what you say?

Throw out those redbooks and call it a day.

No more grumpy passengers yelling out " Miss!"

From now 'til eternity life will be bliss.

No " Fish, steak or chicken?" , no trolley to wheel

No more pillows and blankets and headsets to deal;

No more early mornings...no more sleepless nights

From dreaming of city codes, remembering flights;

Give those feet a rest and the back and arms too-

Sit back and relax, thereÂs nothing to do!

Forget about jet lag, forget the stew lounge,

Forget looking for food and trying to scrounge.

Just hang up your wings, put yourself in the seat

And enjoy your retirement, for itÂs no small feat!

You know you will miss us- but itÂs really O K

ÂCause now youÂve retired and CALLED IT A DAY!

"I've always wanted a place to put stuff that needs to go to the thrift store, or to someone else. And a handy place for water bottles to" yes, that IS a very good idea! along with the other one posted - with the 'hall tree' piece (love that piece!) - and hooks for a jacket, dog leash, sun hat (needed in TX!) etc. yrs ago (when married - I left it with the X) we had a hall tree with a full mirror on it, a small seat and a taller section on the right of it that had a marble top on it (very small maybe 6 x6) to set things with a small drawer under it (the X used it for his keys, change, watch) and under that an area for umbrellas (had a brass 'dish' set in it). It also had 2 hooks down the other side of it. for my new place I found a small mirror with a few hooks along the bottom edge of it. It might be 12 x 18 in. I picked it up for about 5.00 to put in the space between the back door and the laundry room door (when open). a hook for the leash, one for a sweater/jacket and one for a hat (maybe). Somewhere in that 'exit' room I'll have to figure a place to put 'outgoing' things. Stuff going to my sister's, to be returned etc. - that's a great idea. Sure beats a plastic bag (or 2) on the floor next to the door like I do now.

Thanks you all! @rosie-I've considered moving the garage door toward the pantry area. I just wasn't sure how far. Right now, it's 18 inches from the pantry cabinets to the frame of the door. I wasn't sure how much clearance I should add for the cabinet doors to make sure they can clear and have room. It would be nice to slightly deepen the island and have a bit more space along the fridge wall. @marcolo-I thought of that too. I like the idea of having the range on that wall, but I was concerned about having the fridge across a high traffic area from the rest of the work triangle, and it would have an island barrier between the sink and the fridge. Would you move the sink down? Part of the concern is trying not to move the sink due to existing windows and exterior brick if we can help it. You should see the layout of my kids' room. Doors and windows in the wonkiest of places. No place to put a bed. Curious what the architect was thinking 50 years ago.... :-)

Funky- the pecans with the fish, started when I found a Moosewood recipe call Pecan Crusted Fish. It is a really good recipe, in addition to eyeballing all the quantities the only other tweak I make is to spice up the buttermilk soak with a few shots of hot sauce. I know keep the crumb mixture in the freezer and use it in all sorts of things. Need help tweaking a bread recipe

I made a quick bread last week that can be either sweet or savory. The sweet version called for 1/2 cup of sugar and the savory called for 1 TB of sugar for 2 cups of flour. I was trying to make the savory version (with Italian herbs) and put the higher amount of sugar in by mistake. It was truly disgusting in every way. I had to throw it out. So I would vote for using 2 TB of sugar at most. Also, how many loaves does your recipe make - you can try to cut the whole recipe in half and make a smaller bread to make sure you like the taste before committing to a bigger version. And just throwing this out here, but if you want a really good sandwich bread, that is easy to slice, I would say give this recipe a try English Muffin Toasting Bread i don't know where it got its name because it does not taste like English Muffins but it's really good and very easy to make.

I don't ever post here and just ran across this by accident while searching for a poem.....but I have to say you should put something in there about no more People, Star, Sudokus, etc. I think it is a great poem that covers everything and Colleenoz did a wonderful job of tweaking it. I am not a FA but have worked around them for too many years!

Colleen and Flamy...OMGOSH...I can't THANK YOU enough...I've been stewing..(play on words there) on this in my head for about a month now...and how the heck I got roped in to this is beyond me...but now I'm better then OK!!

Well, Colleen, you made it easy for me!

Liz, you had a great beginning, Colleen finessed it a bit and I just had to add some of the more annoying aspects of your job. I swear, you must be a saint to keep doing what you do, doing it so well, and still liking what you do, in spite of all the annoyances. I commend you and really wish I was on one of your flights, it would be a hoot!

It's called "The Art of Getting Along" Flamy...I learned very early on to let the comments roll off my back...I can probably count on one hand the run ins I've had in 31 years...

Isn't "who're" a contraction of "who are"? And as a bonus, it's funny looking. lol

When I read that I saw it as who are so I guess that isn't a new word after all.

bringing this back up for a follow up...We had the party on October 2nd and it was a big hit and I thank you all for help in tweaking the poem...it brought on buckets of tears...800 of my co workers retired between July 1st and Nov 1st and I feel a great loss...I'll be there to shut the lights off...Anyways I wanted to share some of the goodies I did for the party...

We gave the 12 retiring boa's and tiaras to wear on their last flight...I put the poem on big 13 x 19 paper so the other party go'ers could sign their farewells...I also made them "Pad About Slippers" to wear on their downtime and devised a little poem to go with them...And finally I made them a DVD thru photostory with about 600 pictures gathered from 75 years of Delta's history...It was a huge hit and I'm still making copies of the DVD...Thanks for all your help!

I'll bet they're STILL talking about that party, Liz! I know if you're involved, it's gonna be a good 'un!

Those FAs all have super great legs, standing and walking all day is good for your muscle tone, I guess!
