I have been having trouble with my puter.It froze up last week and the only way I could get it to shut down is cut it off.(that was the same day my icebox decided to leak out my house)Any way every time it was cut on it froze after a while. One day I did get on and move my pic over to safety and deleted a lot of stuff run all the things you tell us to a few things show up but not bad stuff. Well I went and bought another one and I have been on this one all most all day has not shut down or frozen yet .I will keep the other one as it is a all in one. I plan to have this fix for GB to play on. Do you have any idea what it might be.It is a HP a6000n about 3 years old.

Have you run an updated malwarebytes scan on it? if so what did it find? If not run one now and let me know the results. If you need the link to it let me know.

A lot of times heat can cause that and with an all in one I know there is not a lot of extra room in there for fans, check to make sure there is not a build of of dust around the fans, are all the fans running on it?
Another cause for freeze up is lack of RAM memory do you know how much you have on the pc?

While you can as long as it is running you should try creating a back up so you do have anything you want from it in case it does fail.
There are several free image back up programs you could use if you decide to do that.

The computer that is acting up is an ollder one.I just bought the one in all have not taken it out of the box.any way this is

yes you install xmarks now on your computer either on your Ie or firefox which ever you use or both, then set up your xmarks account, you can have it save just bookmarks or that plus other stuff. Then once you set up your new pc install xmarks on the new pc just like you did the old one and then just hit the sync button and it will sync with your account and voila it will put all of your bookmarks right into the new one exactly as they were on the one you set the account up with. Then anytime you add a new bookmark it will sync and put that bookmark on all of your computers that you have xmarks installed on. It is an awesome program. That way there is nothing to put on your flash drives or any thing else to worry about. Just install it sync it on the old one then install it and sync it on the new one. I don't use IE just firefox so I just have my xmarks set up on my firefox to save those bookmarks since I don't have any on my Ie. but it does come for both browsers so which ever one is the one you use install that version, if you want it to do it for both you can certainly do that too.

oh that is bad you have some very serious infections there. Yes that would be your problem for sure. I am going to give you the link to another forum you will have to go to so we can help you run some other scans to fully clean up your computer, we will take it step by step so don't get worried, just stop and ask if you have any questions ok. go to this link, register there, you will have to wait for a reply back, then go to this area for Malware removal and start your own post there or if you prefer I can start if for you. her old laptop is windows 7? does she have any Windows 7 disc's? I am going to have to check if this works on 7 but try it. Does she not have wifi? seriously the easiest thing would be to go through the wifi network if both laptops are currently connected to it and access the files from the new laptop through the network and transfer them to it. Here try this Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows. Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts". Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen. I am trying to get around having you create a Linux iso disc that can be booted from and used but it might have to be. Do you or someone know how to burn an iso by chance?

you can change fonts in your browser, for example in firefox you would click Tools at the top then options then under the content tab you have the option to change font type size and colors. Which browser do you use? I don't use IE but it would be easy to look up, I think it may be under internet options.

Okay that is not worrisome so that looks good.
Okay if the old one is a tower I would suggest taking the side panel off to open it up and see how much dust is inside, a collection of dust bunnies can cause these kinds of problems because it lets heat build up. Be sure you have it turned off and unplugged and ground your self by holding onto the metal frame or chassis, I have a special wrist band that clips to the metal, you can get them for just a couple bucks at most places with electronics. It could also be the power supply starting to act up when they are going out they can cause a lot of strange issues.
Lack of RAM memory is generally the first thing we think of with freeze up, do you know what that old pc has?

Okay that tells me you have 2 memory sticks each is 512 MB for a total of 1024 or basically 1gb of memory. That is not a lot. But I don't think that is the problem.
Go ahead with looking inside and blowing out the dust see if that helps.

Is it still running ok now? It is possible it could have been a poor Internet connection from your isp.
