Question for Raven

You are always so helpful, and I really appreciate that. You always stress using the 'safely remove hardware' icon. I have 5 computers and have always used it except for one. It's fairly new (1yr) XP, Dell Optiplex, which is one of their business models. The 'safely remove' has never worked correctly and as a result I never use it on this machine. I copy data from another computer daily and flash it on this machine. If I use the 'safely' it shuts off the drive and I have to reboot to use the USB again. I've never encountered a problem by just pulling out the flash.

I do this with a flash drive each day, but same thing happens with memory cards. If I 'safely remove' I need to reboot to use the drive again. I've searched for solutions and nothing worked. Drive works perfectly fine as long as I don't use 'safely.' I've never lost data or had any problems and its over a year. Curious as to why it is so important.
