Question for Raven aboaut Beta files

I noticed in a recent post from 'thirdfrt' on the subject of 'Norton Safe Web Lite', you mention that you would not download any beta files.

Here's my question. I have downloaded beta files, not knowing that they may be experimental and may cause a problem. Should I try and find these files and uninstall them or since I am not having any problems just leave well enough alone?

If I need to find them and get rid of them how do I find them?

no I would not remove them if you have not had issue with them.
The thing with Beta stage programs is that they are still in testing and may cause conflicts and problems and in general are not to be used by the general public. There are specific Beta Testers that try out beta programs to aid in the production and report problems back to the developers.
Once it is out of Beta and into public release then it is much more likely they have worked out the bugs and it should be safe for download for general use.

That is why I don't like to suggest the use of Beta programs since I never know the level of knowledge of those that may choose to install it and if they then run into conflicts how well they would be able to handle it.

Susie, I have searched & can't find any Avast on it. I also went into the folders. I just did a search on this one & there is quite a bit Norton leftover on it still. AVG is on too & was working when I stopped using this one. I hope to have another one Monday if everyone would just get well..I don't drive (never learned) & all my rides are truly sick. Cat, I think I will try the XP tonite. I do know it has a LOT of problems & need to be started over..it is not worth spending $150 to do that. Nite before last I was trying to fill out a form to order something.. it took over 30 minutes to do it.. The cursor kept freezing plus it wouldn't scroll without freezing. Some on here can vouch for all the problems I have had. If I can get it running I can at least check to see if there is anything else I want saved. I tried to keep things saved as I knew this day was coming. Yes I know now the APC is probably why it wouldn't turn on but I don't think that had anything to do with the other problems. The XP took about 20 minutes to reboot.. this 98 is very fast doing it. Thanks, Dar

Hello again nice people, I have a question. Since Zep has led me through so many steps and has helped me clean up some of the junk on my computer my question is this. What will the results be if I can find no way to get Java downloaded? Is it absolutely necessary that Java be on the computer for things to work right. I see no results from NOT having it, other than not being to play some games, I play most any game I want without any trouble, most of them very graphic. I still need to delete the Firefox Beta version and keep the right version, but I've got to straightened out the shortcut Icons on my desktop, they're both intertwined. Other than that I don't seem to be having any problems. I don't know if there is something else on the Hijack list that needs to be addressed, Zep didn't say so I assume that there is not. I did get the problem with Incredimail straightened out. That also was a register error. After today I am headed for hopefully a wonderful trip to Yellowstone National Park. I will check on this thread as soon as I get back to see what you think about leaving well enough alone. Thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge.

yes you sure can sync all three as long as they all are on the same kindle store account name. Have you tried going to your iphone kindle app and clicking on the sync function there on it and seeing if you can get it to sync and add the new books? I do not have the iphone but that is how it worked for my laptop, I had to go to the kindle app on it and click there to sync and find new items, then go to the archive area on that kindle app and double click on each to get it downloaded to there. I know it says it can be synced with the iphone and my nephew has both and did it so if you play around with it you should be able to do it. Try going to the Menu on your kindle pc, then the manage my account to see if you can click from there on each individual listed book in the drop down beside them and select your iphone app there. I am able to do my sync that way also. "For Whispernet synchronization to work, however, you must keep it turned on in your account settings on the Amazon site (it's on by default)--and, of course, you must turn on the wireless support on your Kindle devices. The option of turning sync on or off is useful, because if more than one person is reading a book registered to a single account at the same time, they probably don't want to use one another's bookmarks. But if you're the only account user, turning sync on lets you pick up reading on any Kindle device or application. "

With Windows XP you can resize your pics by right clicking on the pic, go to Send To and select Mail Recipient... You will then have the option of making your pic smaller... It will come up as an Attachment in an e-mail... From there you can drag the Attachment to another folder or your desktop then delete the e-mail. If you are using your cell phone to take pics to post on the internet make sure you turn off your GPS first !!!... There are bad people out there who can retrieve the GPS coordinates from the pic and find out just where the pic was taken, down to the room in your house! Hugs, Rita

I too avoid beta releases on all except one system which is just for tinkering. On the question of leaving installed betas on-board, I disagree.

Unless there is no change reported in the change log, a beta should always be replaced by the final release. All too often users find themselves facing a plethora of beta releases followed by even more RCs (release candidates) before the final release. Take a minute to look at the release history for Firefox on the link below.

A user always wants the best, safest, most secure, and most user friendly application available.

The final release should always be a clean install rather than the beta overwritten. The use of REVO would be an excellent idea.

Betas are not experimental. They are applications which are works in progress, and the users are the testers.

My apologies DA, did not mean to be rude. Thanks to both of you for the responses.

I don't have a clue as to how to determine if the downloads that on my computer are the latest install or if it is a 'clean install' as you suggest.

I'm thinking this may be way over my head.

If your computer is working fine, don't worry. I learned a long time ago what a bad idea it is to try to fix something when it wasn't broken.

The About entry on most Help tabs will give you the version information. Yes, to leave well enough alone is a sound adage. However, depending on the specific beta application it could be best to replace.
