Dinner Saturday

Homemade taco pizza. Hubby is happy. I haven't felt like cooking much for weeks now. Turkey dinner with all the trimmings tomorrow!

We went to the annual Labor Day neighborhood pig pickin' last night. Lots of good food!

Gadgets I am not sure where I read or heard what to do with it. It was either googled or from my brother who knows a lot about saving food. I think he learned it from my DM. Tonight I had the second piece that was supposed to be my DH until he told me he was going to be gone and it was just as delicious. I just used flour and Lawry seasoning salt and fried it. I think I have about 8 more pieces. Because we are Catholic I will try to use them during lent now on Friday's because we don't eat meat.

No dinner tonight. We went to a birthday brunch, ate too much, and have been dragging around all day. Neither one of us are used to eating heavily at 10:30 in the morning. Left there and went to Costco since we were close, Fred Meyer (there isn't one here locally) then home and had company for a while. Brunch was at a casino. The food is good, I had bacon and tomato omelet, more. And I did gamble a little before we left. I had almost lost my $20, won it back so played some more (slots) and that time I did lose it. DH lost his $5 on a penny machine and quit :) We're not gamblers, and I must say, its a lot more fun when I can break even or win a little. My SIL had begun with $200 and was up to almost $700 in winnings when we left, she has more disposable income than I feel I do.

Our friend dropped in on his bicycle this afternoon. He was out on a couple of errands and when he went home he realized that he hadn't taken his house key with him. So he dropped around to put in some time till his neighbours came home who have a spare key. I had taken a baked ziti out of the freezer, and knew there would be enough for 3 of us, so we had that and salads. Some oatmeal-carrot muffins that I made today as well. Terri, I made the hamburger bun recipe that you posted, we had breakfast burgers. I halved the recipe and only got 4 buns out of it, so I'll definitely make a full recipe next time.

The weather was not cooperating for our usual grilling, so I set the ol' Showtime rotisserie up in the garage. I dressed a chicken with lots of herbs and garlic, stuffed the cavity with some lemon halves, brushed it with a little butter, and let the Showtime do it's thing.

Baked a couple of sweet potatoes, sauteed some summer squash from the garden. Looks like the summer veggies are dwindling down, which makes me unhappy. :-(

The garden here is looking pretty ragged. Yellowing tomato leaves, although still plenty of tomatoes yet to ripen. The kale is almost all pulled, the pole beans are scarce. There are still some leeks. Summer is coming to a close, but no according to the temperature!! Hot and humid. Ugly.

I was working till 5, so hubby made BLT's on rye toast with a salad of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes and peppers.

Hmmm, I never thought of using rye bread for BLTs. Sounds great.
