OMG going to high school football, basketball & baseball games is ingrained in growing up in america lol! this is something done in both big cities and small rural areas. how weird lol (not being mean weird just odd lol).

what sports do they go watch? if they don't watch sports what do they do in place of that entertainment? just curious, i find these things facinating ~ liz

Oh, Liz, they are foreign exchange students. LOL! They don't play American football in Europe. Actually, Alex and I were talking about this earlier today, and he said he had never gone to any of the games himself. Neither had I when I was in high school. Sports doesn't interest any of us, actually. My dd only goes because she has a friend in the band and to socialize with her other friends.

I plan to be more involved, though, as Johanna, will soon be playing soccer for the high school girl's team. I hope anyway. She's waiting approval to play.

ohhh i know LOL what i meant was i never realized how american going to high school or even college sports was LOL. they don't even go to soccer in their school?? i went to games in high school cuz that was the social thing to do, then go out afterwards. college well that was also social but more so a pride in your school thing (IU basketball w/ bobby knight).

i mentioned in one of your other posts my boss who just had a girl from france, valentine, for 2 wks. she had never baked cookies or even help make a homemade meal LOL can you imagine!? he just told me they got a check for $100 to cover her food expenses, he felt bad about it because she would not eat very much, they had a hard time finding things she would eat ~ liz

Liz, I think the sports over there are separate from their schools. Johanna plays soccer at home too. They had both been told how important sports are here in the U.S. because Maria was concerned she wasn't good enough to play any. I told her not to worry that most people don't play any sports.

They gave your boss money for food? CIEE doesn't do it that way. You agree to provide food and shelter. The only monetary thing you get from the program is $50 per month per student tax break. That's it.

my boss did not know they got $$ for providing food, a check just showed up this week for $50 a wk that the student was w/ the family. i don't know what program they do, this is their 3rd yr doing it and they have never received a check before. a group of students comes over from different european countries & gets sent to the families for 2 weeks to ea family. all the families that participate are all from either my bosses church or his kids' private school. all the families know ea other and have been doing this for yrs and yrs. my boss has never mentioned a student tax break, doubt he knows about it if they do thou. he is very very cheap and would probably take on more kids for the tax break LOL ;-))) ~ liz

How fun!! I hope you had a good crowd, that makes a big difference. I'm going to two football games today, in two different towns! Both of my boys are playing. One has a HS scrimmage, and the other has his first game of the season at the youth level. His last season before HS :( it's going to be a long day, but so worth it!

Friday night football was a big thing when I was in HS. Not that I was remotely interested in the game! We went in big groups and just hung out together. It was just what everyone did! DH and I used to attend our local games here up until just last year when our youngest graduated. We will probably go to a couple at least as a friend of ours has a boy who may or may not get off the bench!

They enjoyed it, although, Johanna said she didn't like the big gaps between plays. She's used to constant action, I guess in soccer. I find football pretty boring because of the gaps.
