They'll all shut down if they get too hot. This is why ventilation is critical. There has to be enough space around the unit inside the cabinet for air to flow. Secondly, I believe the newer units act differently from the units of over 20 yrs ago. The pulsing of the old units was much slower and therefore noticable whereas today the pulsing is very fast. Which now sounds like a 'ticking' or 'clicking', or at higher power a 'whine'. And if your lights are dimming, it's because the service is too small. It is trying to pull more current than the circuit is set for and is dropping the house voltage as a result. The CB doesn't trip because the unit is pulsing and not pulling a steady overload current. That is, a 30-amp breaker doesn't 'break' at 31 amps. It requires an over-amperage for a certian amount of time before tripping.

I'm nearly 80 years of age (and happy and thankful to be enjoying good health). I've bought stocks three times in recent months, and plan to go on doing so during coming months ... including borrowing to do so if I consider it wise. I don't know when the market bottom will occur, but it'll be sooner or later. The longer it's delayed, the greater likelihood that when the turn does take place, there'll be a more pronounced (and quite likely longer term) runup following the turnaround. If I'm not around to enjoy it, my beneficiaries are not in immediate need of money (and should they be, would likely use the stocks that were undervalued as collateral for a loan). My executor is smart enough to manage the assets skilfully, and there's enough available to satisfy the income tax people (I think). The charities that are to benefit may get some over the short term, but if the markets are low, my executor will have leeway to allow them to recover before making the major contribution ... ... even if she needs to use the assets as collateral to make a short- to medium-term loan to pay the charities earlier, in order to get the necessary receipts to enable there to be a substantial reduction in tax payable on the estate in the year of my death. My investing career, as far as stocks go, began about 45 years ago, so I've seen a few years of market fluctuations (and, dare I say, "shenanigans"?). I took the course that stockbrokers take over 25 years ago - and recommend it, for anyone who has enough interest in the field and the mental alacrity to make it worthwhile. I took the six courses that the Chartered Fiancial Planners take, as well. Many investors would learn a great deal about evaluating the market, and how to evaluate individual stocks, by taking those courses, as well. The whole deal would likely cost around $2,000. - and after 10 years or so (should you not die in the meantime), I suggest that you would think it to be one of the smartest investments that you'd have made in recent years. Have a lovely late-winter week, everyone. Don't let the weather freeze your investment smarts! ole joyful

There are many states that are coming out with regulations pertaining to reduced document loans, qualifying ARMs, prudent underwriting of loans, etc. These regulations are often vague and open to all kinds of interpretation. Because the regulations are so vague, many lenders legal counsel advice them to discontine doing business in those states until the states provide more specific guidance. Unfortunately for borrowers, it limits their choices of lenders. I'm not sure about what's going on in Colorado, but I know Mass. just came out with some restrictive legistlation.

There was never any indication of foreclosure and the house has not been put up for sale. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The brother and sister, aged 98 and 94, were taken out of the house against their will. He had advanced cancer and she was legally blind and was trying to take care of him in this 3 story house with just one bathroom on the second floor. He could not get up or down stairs. and she, a tiny thing at 4' 7" and 75 pounds, could not care for his needs. A visiting nurse was the one who did what was necessary to get them out and into a nursing home. He died within a month and she lasted less than a year. She was a sweetheart, he however was not. The family said it had nothing to do with his age, he was spoiled by his mother and was nasty and arrogant all his adult life. His massive collection of antiques included some ancient Chinese vases, etc from the 14th century . Yet all the collection was stored in an old run down mansion that he rented. The 18 rooms were filled with all kinds of valuable pieces collecting dirt just piled around in no organization with just narrow paths to get through. It was unbelievable to see what was there and the way the two of them lived at home in virtual poverty. Home was a large estate that was sold of an acre at a time in order to support his habit. Ours was the last lot sold.
