We have the same issue here in our one and only park where dogs were allowed. The owners were letting the dogs run all over the park (only one end area is for dogs) and even in the dog area, they were not picking up after them...so now they are all bent out of shape because the city has outlawed dogs in the park....Too bad dog lovers, you should have picked up after them.

This past Sunday, we were in Austin and peeking out the window so trying to spot DIL coming in for a surprise and a woman, from several blocks down let 2 of her dogs poop in DIL's yard.

Had I seen someone whom I knew, living nearby, let her dog (as the male of the species - in polite society we don't use the word for a female of such) use some relative/friend's (or my) yard in such a fashion without pickng up after it, I think that I'd have followed her and asked her how she'd like it were I to bring my stinking garbage down and scatter it over her front lawn?

And, if I ever again saw her use a friend's lawn in such a fashion without picking up after it, she could expect to have me bring it down in a plastic bag to show her, asking what she suggested that I do with it ...

... and can she give me one good reason why I shouldn't smear it over her sidewalk ... or, possibly, her front door?

By the way - there's a good use for those coffee containers with lid that we buy at a coffee house to take out with us.

The paper cup is an excellent container, the lid is well suited to pushing the product into the cup ... and, when replaced on top of the cup, keeps the product well contained ... and even contains the smell.

Your choice as to whether you carry some masking tape and a marking pen to label it, "Puppie Poop".

I maintain it's more efficient than a plastic bag (with hand inside to exercise the picking-up portion of the exercise).

Heck ... you could staple it to a stick and hold it under the dog's hind end during the "pause that refreshes" (to
quote an old Coke slogan) to make the task even easier ... well, at least less proximate).

Good wishes for keeping both your dog (or bi!ch) ... as well as yourself ... in good odour with the neighbours - so they won't bi!ch ... well, about your dog/bi!ch-related habits, at least!

pawsitive, many people who live in our 55+ community have dogs. We don't, but I save those plastic sleeves the papers come in. I stuff one sleeve until it's full and then take it down to our mail box center and leave it. Someone always takes them, so the sleeves are recycled and the complex is cleaner--although I have to say everyone is very good about cleaning up after their pets.

I live in an average neighborhood, with people that have dogs.

I don't.

But I have to pick up dog carp all the time, when I go in my front yard.

I don't like it either.

People in my town are pretty good about picking up after their dogs. There is a $100 fine for not picking up.

Traveling with out dogs,,,I always call and make sure it is dog friendly....where we are now there is a hay meadow they are allowed to run free in and you don't have to pick up....but here around the trailers you do....I buy the cheap sandwich baggies....put on my hand as a glove and just pick it up and walk it to the dumpster it is not a big deal nor is it hard to do! That doesn't solve it by doing stuff like smearing it on sidewalks or anything.

Yes, its frustrating to see that they don't pick up.
One guy at the dog park won't pick up.

Some elderly can't bend over but others are hanging onto walkers, canes and they pick up after their dog/s.

My dad will carry it long ways before we finally find a garbage can and at times we have had to take it home to throw it out in our own garbage can.

We love that one dog park now has supplied us with doggy bags, nice size ones too and also along the paths in the park doggy garbage bags, that has helped tons.

If more places would do the same supply doggy bags and also garbage cans.

Like in town, one side has no garbage cans at all.

And then along the waterfront ways, they have too many recycle bins, not trash cans, maybe one.

Its frustrating and I have seen doggy bags along the way at times because there is no garbage cans.

And for lawns, our dog/s have gone on them but we always pick up after them.

I watch like a hawk and tell my dad as he in charge of that but I have picked up at times he doesn't hear me.

I, too, try to keep those nice doggy bags that the one park supplies us with in my coat/jacket pockets or pants or shorts whatever I am wearing.

At times, we are short and then we use kleenexes or I'll find a sandwich baggie on me to use.

And we have tons of dog walkers here.

I used to before that one dog park supplied us with doggy bags to use, the small baggies from grocery store that they put meats in. WE used to go through tons of those especially when we had two dogs. And sometimes one dog can go twice the rare time three times, so must be prepared for that which I am sure alot aren't.

And we have had people off the ferry or come into town with their dog and ask us for a baggie, we suggest the grocery store. We usually don't have extra ones when we have been asked as they were used.

The best is to always keep lots of baggies in the car to grab and use.

And walking, keep baggies to grab where you put their leashes, collars,etc. so that its altogether and no excuses.

But no, its not good to do those horrible things. As bad as it is, its easier to clean up after those irresponsible dog owners. There will always be ones out there that will not clean up no matter what the fines cost or what is said to them.

Some feel they are above picking up poop.

The thing is that you don't touch it with your hand/fingers, you put your hand in the baggie and pick it up that way.

The one dog park that doesn't have baggies supplied are really bad, we have been there and tons of dog poop all over the place.

Sorry I just don't believe a responsible pet owner should have to have the city or parks department supply them with baggies to pick up....If you have a dog and walk it anywhere beside your own yard, you need to pick it up even if you have to buy your bags.

There usually are many paper coffee cups with plastic lids discarded here and there - by the roadside, in office waste cans, etc.

Hang on to the ones that you use - have your friends save them, etc. Many diligent reusers would be pleased to find an extra use for them.

And if the unco-operative dog does business a couple of times on one tour ... you'll be glad that you ordered the large sized coffee!

As for smearing it on some offender's sidewalk, I think that I said that I'd ask her/him how s/he'd like it if ....

My friend's rat terrier, a bi!ch that loves to run ... when we let her out at the end of the lane, she runs at over 25 m.p.h. ...

... is happy to see me show up at their place ... for maybe there's a chance that she can come out to the farm ... where there are no leashes ... and no being followed around by a master with a doggy bag!

Actually, to coop an active dog like that up in a small apartment in the city, a couple of blocks from a grassy park, that they get to visit a couple of times a day, travelling of necessity at the end of a leash at their managing human's speed, seems to me akin to dog abuse.

P.S. If, after my warning, the offending neighbour dog-owner continued to use my lawn as his/her dog's shi!-house, I think that I'd collect the poop for a while and take it down in a coffee cup, ring her/his doorbell and hand it to him/her.

Actually ... I think that it'd be a good idea to collect it in one of those styofoam boxes that we bring home from a restaurant with food that we didn't eat ... for the next time that s/he got one of those, when s/he opened it later to eat the contents ... s/he'd be recollecting the sight of the box that I'd delivered to his/her door, earlier.

If, after receiving that warning and persisting, I might be tempted to carry out the smear job.

Maybe save the doggy box with contents until the pup offended again, then walk in it with my rubber boots, take them off at that point and walk down to the offender's house in shoes, then replace the boots on my feet about ten feet from the place where their sidewalk stopped at their doorstep.

I live in a suburban area. All the houses have lots of about a quarter acre. My back yard is completely fenced, my dog goes only in the back. she is never let out to roam, nor do we have a dog park nearby. About once a week, before cutting the grass, I pick up any visible piles in my yard. Nuff said. My dog only goes on my property. What fries me is a neighbor with two dogs who lives across the street. He lets the dogs out, they run over to my front yard, do their business, then walk up and down the street the rest of the day. Mt streey is quiet, very little traffic. But I wish a car would hit those two dogs. And I like dogs.

This just makes me furious!

We no longer have dogs but when we did, we didn't take them out to walk until after they had already done their business in our yard!

Just a few weeks ago, I asked someone to please get their dog(a big golden lab) out of my yard. The dog was not on a leash either, they told me that if it pooped that they would pick it up!!!!

I also carry a few sandwich bags in my purse or pocket. My peke doesn't make a big pile so the sandwich bags work well.

I don't have a dog yet, but I would not want to use a baggie. Not long enough for me emotionally. LOL I don't want my hand anywhere near poop, especially so far from water and a bar of soap.

Our lake cabin is next to a public access. Even though it is not a heavily used access the amount of people that use it more often than not have a dog with them. Guess where the dog does their business? If not on the access property, it goes on ours. Either way, they don't bother to scoop the poop and take it with them, especially when they're headed out to fish for the day. They leave it for me and I know it's not form my dog because I haven't owned a dog in YEARS.

Maybe ask the owner how s/he'd react if you appeared on his/her front lawn some night about 4 a.m., made your deposit, picked up after it ...

... and left a note on his/her door to report on what you'd done.

How enthusiastically do you figure that the owner would receive such a suggestion?

There's a big difference in the composition of waste from dogs and humans? In what way?

(Make sure that the house/dog owners are long abed ... and the local cop car in the other end of town, before carrying out your little depradation).

By the way ... have you considered taking a picture of the dog doing his business, and of the owner picking up after it??

I'll bet that the dog owner wouldn't really take kindly to such a response to his act.

What about posting some copies of the pic on local utility poles? Or offering to the dog owner to do so?

Do you have a slingshot?

Do you often see the offenders while doing their act? Do you usually know who the offenders are, or, more accurately, where they live (if you see the offenders in the act of dirtying your place)?

Have you been able to accost them?

If so, maybe ask them that, since you haven't had a dog in years, so can't visit their place to have your dog leave a similar unpicked-up deposit ...

... how would they like it if you appeared at their place and made such a depost personally ...

... whether or not you picked up after making the deposit?

Maybe that'd give them a somewhat different perspective on the situation.

Good wishes for thinking up enough different perspectives on the situation (outlandish though they might be) that would help the owners of the offending critters (actually, it's the owners who are the offenders) to choose to keep their cotton-pickin' crap off of your precious lawn!

If we can get people to look at a familiar act in a different perspective, sometimes it helps them reconsider the familiar act in which they've been involved ... enough to change their method of operation (in your favour).

Seriously, I usually don't catch them in the act. But I see the evidence when we arrive. :(

Sometimes when we're there I see a dog doing the poppy dance on my lawn while the owner is busying loading their boat into the lake. I always give them time, in case they are going to clean it up. But if it looks like they're ignoring the situation I have been known to yell out the door, please clean up after your dog!

Once I got a very nasty verbal response, as though it was MY PROBLEM. That person went on their merry way, in their boat. I noted which vehicle they arrived in and during the day located a dead fish which I deposited underneath their car seat. (Remember Grumpy Old Men?) I hate to be vengeful, but that person used some very offensive language!

It's illegal here not to pick up after your dog. If you get caught leaving it, you're fined.

Because of that, dogs are allowed in public parks, but only on leashes. We also have a leash law.

Leashed dogs whose owners are required to pick up poop makes for better behaved pets and owners :)

There are some fenced dog parks where dogs are allowed to run without leashes. But the poop law still applies.

We also have a leash law- that doesn't mean that it works.
We have a black lab, we have an underground fence, he doesn't leave his area. It is not unusual to see other dogs in my yard, doing their business. I cannot for the life of me understand where people think it is ok to let your dog run. Just doesn't seem fair when you spend all that money , time and effort to keep your dog 'safe' and you need to go inside because some one else has let their dog roam and it is in your yard.

I have never understood the thinking of someone who doesn't pick up after their dogs... Come on --- you don't want to step in poo in your yard -- what ever makes you think that I want to step in your dog's leavings in my yard?

There was an article about this in the local paper last week. I hate walking around the park walk path and have to walk around tons of dog poop.
