It was good to get a few things done - and still this wk yet. It'll be good to have a/c in the car, that'll help when it goes over 107 again. and the hair! yikes, it'd gotten soooo long and was always in my way. does the garden forum have much on desert planting? I'll have to take a look there. ML - I'll be doing xeriscape also. I took a class in it with my sister about 12 yrs ago. There are a good number of desert trees, bushes, plants to use. I need to start out with fast growing ones. probably desert willow (love those), Palo Brea, Eucalyptus and Jacaranda. the Jacaranda has beautiful purplish blooms - a former co-worker had one in his front yard and I loved it. It grew a LOT in just 2 yrs. I want another mesquite too but will probably plant that in the spring. I have to check the root growth on a few because of the conduit underground. I'll put out a few Oleanders - not my favorite, but colorful and drought hardy. a few more Bird of Paradise plants and bougainvillea. I want colorful! Several will be clumped but unfortunately a few will be loners (or I'll plant some flowering bush by them). I told dbf I wanted at least a spigot on each end of the mfg home. He did mention putting some irrigation pipes around too. If he'd do that in a few directions it'd help. 2 spigots would help a lot - I only have 1 out back now. probably only 1 tree will be difficult to water. most will be close to others I water. Want to put a tree on the westside of boy's pen also. I want an ironwood out front so I can see it from the kitchen and porch - that's slower growing tho. Organpipe cactus and prickly pear too! the prickly pear I can get cuttings from my sister. Somewhere around here is my desert plant book - I need to look for it! we do get water sometimes - usually during monsoon season. That's been rather iffy the past few yrs. We should have had rain by now. humidity is up, a lot of overcast days etc. got about 20 drops the other night. my steps were wet but you couldn't tell by the ground that even a drop hit it! sometimes we get lots of rain in the fall also. the first yr when I was putting in the conduit for electrical it rained so long and hard I came out in the rain to dig the trench. my then roommate/co-worker felt sorry for me so he came to help. it'd rained so much we gave up and headed back to town. I had to follow his van in my corolla to see how high water was to his tires - just to know if it was a dip I could make it thru. I thought we'd drown. the dogs' holes would become lakes out here! but I think total we get just 7-8 inches a yr. I do have 2 plastic barrels here - tho they will probably disintegrate when I touch them... will get something at the feed store to collect water. will have to see how it runs off of the 'new' roof. when I asked dbf why it didn't have gutters he looked at me like I was nuts. even with our little rain I think it should have something to direct the rain off of the roof. Someone just came out to get the dozer. both the dozer and water truck need worked on. they took the water truck a few nights ago. I'd never know they were back there if boy didn't raise a ruckus. He thinks those are our machines now. I did notice while out there that my head started hurting once in the humidity. ick.

We literally designed our new build around our kitchen. Although I love formal dining rooms and living rooms our new house has a huge kitchen and great room instead. The dining area will have an 4 x 8 table that will hopefully be capable of handling every day dining as well as entertaining. The seating area will have a 3 x 6 "library table" behind the sofa and I envision this table as a potential homework station for kids and grownups bringing work home from the office as well as a game table/jigsaw puzzle table/mail sorting table (I don't know if anyone else still does jigsaw puzzles but our family loves them). If I can find the right table we will pull it away from the sofa so it can also serve as an auxiliary dining table when all the aunts, uncles and cousins are here for the holidays. The one level island has space for 4 counter height bar stools so this will be for anyone who wants to keep me company while I'm prepping, for those who prefer lunch and snacks at the counter and additional seating space for big family get togethers. Our children are grown but we hope that this house will remain in the family long after we are gone and maybe some of our grandchildren will grown up in it. I'm entirely in favor of your desire to have the homework and most especially computer use somewhere under your supervision and I hope I've set up a great room and kitchen space that will work for younger people as well as for DH and I who are empty nesters. Sometimes I think it gets harder with every generation to find a way to make sure you are passing on your important values to your children. Ours were in high school when cell phones, internet use and so many other technologies were flowering (weeding?) but I felt that we had already instilled at least 12 years worth of values before all of the technology was so ubiquitous. It sometimes makes me laugh to think that our big issue was insisting on no TV's in the bedrooms and that the only TV was the family TV. Of course, "everyone else had their own TV in the bedroom." Sorry to be so long but all of this is by way of saying that I'm all in favor of family togetherness and learning from each other. I've learned a lot of technology from my children and they enjoy teaching me. I still like to think that they learned a lot at the old kitchen table about values that they remembered when they were older and alone with the computer or cell phone.

Depending on the cost we are planning to build the Tranquility plan in central Texas, but we can't build a basement to raise the height of the home due to hard soil. Has anyone added a second floor covered patio to the second story of the Tranquilty floor plan or one of the other versions that is similar to it that Garrell offers? Our lot we plan to purchase has a panoramic lake view, but we need to be up higher to see it. We are not planning to build any of rooms on the second floor, but we would like to have an interior staircase leads up through the unfinished second story that gives us access to door that opens onto a 2 story covered deck. If that isn't possible then we would need an exterior staircase with an easy walk up on the exterior side wall of the master/master bath. Our ideal location for our covered deck would be over the Master and Master bath, and we are hoping the roof line can be altered to allow a gable over the covered patio. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated, as I email Garrell 2 days ago, but I've heard back from them.

Didn't even think of that, yayagal! I know the pic doesn't do it justice. But my mother, who is living with me now, and I were wowing all night last night, what a huge, and better, difference it makes. It makes the room feel, and look, much more open and clean, lighter (weight-wise), and the TV is at the perfect viewing heigh now. I had a very small LED TV before, 26", because I'm not a fan of the big TVs (although, that has changed. Ugh) and I kept it on a small side table and would move it around, esp. when I had rowdy dogs in the house. No more of that nonsense. The bigger (mom's) TV is safe and secure now, can stay where it is, and it no longer blocks the mirror. I also really like that it's open at the bottom, not covering the floor. Surprised by how much I like that difference. Yay!

Poor little sweety.....I'm glad they don't remember those early days....Her little face is so full....I hope it's not long until his is just as full...He had a hard go of it so far.

Thanks everyone! Of course we think they are beautiful!LOL We are so thankful that they are both home.When we put them together for the first time in that bassinet it was like they both knew the other part of them was finally where they were suppose to be.They slept almost 5 hours!LOL DDIL said he seemed so much more calm than when he was in the hospital.I told Jillian that she is just going to have to straighten up her act and learn to share the spotlight!LOL
Yes,prayers have definitely been answered and we want to thank all of our KT family for those prayers.You all will never know how much we appreciate it.I have copied most of the posts from here so they will have them for their keepsake book.

Lil' Hunks of Heaven, as my Mother used to say. Bet now that he has his Sister beside him he'll start gaining weight faster- resting sweetly together, he'll be kicking into "super thrive" mode.
