Garrell house plan- opinions please
Comments (5)We started with a stock Garrell plan and made many modifications. The garage is too small in both directions. As pointed out 20 feet barely gets sedans and small SUVs in. Forget about ext cab full size bed pickups and large SUVs. A suburban (my yard stick for biggest possible) is about 22ft long. We did 24' deep in ours. 28 feet wide is also narrow for 3 cars. The bay nearest the front of the house won't allow for a car door to open to that side, the garage door is at the same place as the wall that's not bumped out. Make that 2 ft more to open a door. And you're door from the house can be a problem. Are you going to have steps down? If you're on a slab, no problem, but a crawl or basement and you'll have 3 or more steps (protruding into that bay) and if you have more than 4 or 5 you may want a landing which would be even more protrusion. I'd make that dimension at least 33ft, 2 more for a car door and 3 more for steps into the house....See MoreNantahala / Amicalola / Tranquility Part 2
Comments (6)Greetings! This is my first time to the thread. My wife and I are considering building a version (1 of a million apparently) of the Amicalola Cottage. I am working with a local architect to make the changes we desire. I am seeing some of the posts concerning the costs. I am a builder, but building your own home is a dramatically different process. I am trying to find someone who knows the industry, built the home themselves (as the general contractor) and was able to effectively control costs who might be willing to share their budget breakdown via email and not public posting. Anyone? Additionally, any high end empty nesters in southwestern Ohio seeking a smaller footprint home, with VERY custom finishes as well as a long term green impact (geothermal, wood, solar, back up generators, automation, controlled future energy costs, etc.) feel free to contact me....See MoreHas anyone else built the Garrell Westbrooks ll Cottage?
Comments (26)Hi daboyd4. We built this house last year I’ll post some photos in a bit. I was wondering what did you all use to go around the outside of the large windows living room. We used versatex. Versatex is supposed to be a good product and probably is but ours wasn’t installed properly and I’m needing to redo it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sam Wood...See MoreHome office/music room floor plan
Comments (81)Hi lascatx! The piano does not fit between the windows or on the opposite wall unless I angle it in the corner which someone mentioned was a no-no for upright pianos. I'm wondering if art and lamp above/on the piano could help with the "all one height along the wall" problem. And then I could move the existing art to the back wall where the mirror is in these pics. The bookcase has been in our foyer right outside this door to this room. I kind of miss it there, so I may move it back. It's not really any farther away if I use it for storage for office items - I haven't been sold on it between the windows and that would be one less piece of brown furniture in here. I definitely gravitate towards blues, so I'd definitely be open to that on the walls...finding the right color is the hard part. The current color is Benjamin Moore November Rain and it isn't terrible in person, but I figured I should explore other options since it needs a fresh coat....See Morebrianacnp
