What Are Your Plans For Labor Day?

Today we had a family dinner and the men worked on our big tall retaining wall to the west of the house. For our meal at noon, we had chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, green beans, corn, tomato salad, cucumber salad, homemade yeast rolls, cherry pie, lemon meringue pie, angel food cake, orange jello dessert and chocolate cake. Now I am planning for a family meal for Labor Day. Are you planning anything for Labor Day?

Will be in San Francisco. My son is getting married Sunday.

Labor Day is on the 6th of Sept.

I probably will be a passenger on a motorcycle for an hour or so, go to church and be home the rest of the time. I am sure my grandkiddos will be here with me.

I pray everyone has a safe holiday weekend. Remember, it starts on Thursday night and doesn't end until Tuesday morning!!!

Being retired, it's all one long weekend. Good and bad. I feel compelled to do something productive every day, so in a way, I never get a break! It's supposed to cool off significantly by Saturday, which will be good. Saturday mornings are cemetery days. I am hopeful that we get a good turnout of volunteers, get some stuff done, and have a fun lunch afterwards. Sunday morning is Sacramento Farmer's Market, and I stop in before to see how the Sheriff's Work Crew in the cemetery is doing. We have plans to get together with my niece's family later in the day. 18 mos old and 3 yr old great-nephews. Happy times. We may go to the beach on Monday. I need some healing time by the ocean before going back to Ohio to deal with my mother's estate. When am I gardening at home? Since every day is the weekend, that's the plan for Thursday and Friday mornings, along with writing my Oct garden column, and doing some other paperwork. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Lucky me. Jen, You know me, it is never too cold to camp, matter of fact on my way in about 2 1/2 hr for the weekend. It gets kind of tricky this time of yr with no running water in the campground though. We have to bring all water in jugs that we use. The REAL thing that bothers is me is no use of bathroom facilities, there is nothing like a restroom when you need one. Only 2 more months until the water is turned on. The smell of food cooking over the fire is awesome and so relaxing. Eal51----kind of funny you mention boyscouts, my hubby was a leader for years with my 3 boys and camped all yr. too. The stories I would hear about camping in igloos they made in the snow in the winter and waking up with icles on their faces etc it was so funny. I guess thats why we camp all yr, it is nothing compared to all those yrs. he went through. He says he is living the life now, he doesn't have to sleep in a tent in the cold any longer. We sleep in our tent when it is nice out though. Lynda

Linda, the bunnies on your table runner are really cute! I was thinking of National Quilting Day this morning and saw in our newpaper that there was an estate sale close by and they listed "old quilts" --- well, the quilts weren't as old as I expected and although they were lovely, I wasn't shopping for a semi-modern quilt at those prices. However, I found a quilted child's skirt for $3. It is such a fun item and has a ton of quilting in it, so that --- along with a few other things --- came home with me. I don't usually do that sort of thing so it was fun. What a beautiful day it is here... too pretty to stay inside and sew. (I do not have a child to wear the skirt; I am just keeping it because it is so INTERESTING! I wish I could post a picture but PhotoBucket and my computer don't seem to get along these days.) There will be 11 of us, our kids and their spouses and 2 grandsons and my sister and BIL. DS will bring the vegetable and desserts and DIL will bring her wonderful yeast rolls. I will roast a fresh turkey stuffed with sage dressing, candied sweet potatoes, twice baked potatoes, pumpkin bread, gravy, cranberry sauce and Glenda's corn pudding. If it isn't too warm in the afternoon, we will make mulled cider. Then at Christmas there will be only 5 of us with DD and DS celebrating with their in-laws. The day after our DD and her family will arrive for a belated Christmas and grandson's birthday. This year they will take her in-laws to a rented cabin in the mountains for their celebration. Hope it snows for them.

Holy cow, Marilyn. If I ate at your house every day I would roll from one location to the next instead of walk ... your menus always look sooooooo gooooooood I'm sure I would have no willpower and would just eat it all up.

I'm hoping it's just me and DH for Labor Day weekend. I should have more tomatoes ready to put up by then, and no one ever wants to help me. LOL. They just like me to share the results.

Otherwise, we'll just take it easy all weekend. I hope to work on some cards for friends with fall birthdays. and maybe go through my card-making supplies to see what I might want to take to an October convention.

Our plans for the weekend probably won't solidify until about Thursday. Doubt DH will know for sure if he's working Sat. until then. Hoping he has a 3 day weekend, but am doubting it. He's only had one Saturday off since the beginning of March, so it's unlikely. If it's only a 2 day weekend, we'll be busy at the country house--lawn needs cutting, I'm having new windows installed Wed in the living room so we'll have some clean-up and rearranging to do. If he does get 3 days, I think I'll cook Sat. and invite some of the neighbors over for Pulgogi.

Hopefully nothing. We just got back from a huge 3-day car show, and are beat.

Hopefully, next weekend will be quiet and not too hot - might grill out on the deck.

I'm going to a pahrrr-TEE! Yep, annual Labor Day party. Fun, fun, fun. There will be about 30 people there, around a pool, cookout, vollyball, board games, food, fun, food, booze, food. It's all good.

Sat. we have family & friends for a Bar B Q, Sun night is fireworks and a fire. Monday Labour Day we relax!!!

the guys and few gals are doing fantasy football sat or sun..i assume monday we'll be fixing the gutter...so if dh is on a ladder even a short one, i don't like to be gone...

We have started to have monthly pot luck gatherings in our APT bldg, so that will take place on Saturday. Our Daughter, Son-on-law and Grand daughter will come up from the cities later on that aft. noon and stay till Sunday.

DD#1 and her family are coming, I think. The girls and I usually do the "touristy" thing on Labor Day, and visit all the shops that I never go into during the summer. Then off to a great lunch. The guys will probably work on their deer stands and go fishing. Hope it's not too hot.

Saturday will be a family BBQ. My nephew is finally home from Afghanistan for good. He's out of the reserves now. Sunday will be spent at the local Bluesfest. Taj Mahal headlining.
Monday...rest and get ready for another week.

DH and I are leaving on a cruise Sunday with 7 friends, so on Labor Day we will be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (hopefully not sharing the seas with any hurricanes!!!)

Monica, were you at the Corvette show? DH went with a friend to PA this past Saturday.

A bunch of local photographers are gonna be @ our local lake for the balloon classics. DH needs to be there @ 5:30am!!! I HATE seeing people and going somewhere before the sun is up!!!!

LOL, I thought the same as you Stoney. Sue, you make the biggest meals. I would be in hog heaven all the time!

We often Labor, on labor day. I can't do to much because of recent surgery but hope to enjoy a few local happenings.
I want to get to the farmers market at least once this summer.
