What Are Your Plans For Labor Day?

Today we had a family dinner and the men worked on our big tall retaining wall to the west of the house. For our meal at noon, we had chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, green beans, corn, tomato salad, cucumber salad, homemade yeast rolls, cherry pie, lemon meringue pie, angel food cake, orange jello dessert and chocolate cake. Now I am planning for a family meal for Labor Day. Are you planning anything for Labor Day?

Labor Day is on the 6th of Sept.

I probably will be a passenger on a motorcycle for an hour or so, go to church and be home the rest of the time. I am sure my grandkiddos will be here with me.

I pray everyone has a safe holiday weekend. Remember, it starts on Thursday night and doesn't end until Tuesday morning!!!

Keep in mind that your homeowners liability coverage is typically just that: LIABILITY coverage. That means there is coverage only if you could be considered negligent in some way for their injury. It's not just blanket coverage for any injury that may occur (like medical insurance or workers comp ( to a degree)): you have to be at fault. Now, you might also have medical payments coverage on your policy. And that can kick in for medical bills (and possibly lost wages depending on the state and the policy) for a wider variety of injuries that occur on the property. But that is typically a smaller limit -- $1,000 or $5,000 -- has some exclusions, and the umbrella doesn't give you anything extra there. As relates to the liability coverage, I wouldn't provide any tools for the day laborers to use. If they fall off "your" ladder or scaffolding, or get cut with "your" saw, it is easier to assign some fault to you for a problem with the ladder or blade, or missing warnings, or warnings not in Spanish, or whatever. Check with an attorney in your state to make sure the above applies to you (NY has some funky labor laws, so California might, too). I just wanted you to know that your homeowners coverages aren't true substitutes for workers comp, which pays for all related medical, regardless of fault (some exceptions for fighting, etc.).

Thanks all! The finished squares are 1.25", overall it's 50" square. The next one I make I'll buy a jelly roll or the smaller one, the honey bun' I think that's just 1.50". Too much cutting of white and I think that was my error, along with a turned block... Marsha, you are farther along than me, I just finished lesson 2. For me, I'll start off with the straight line, .50" apart. I have a Bernina, sooo I'm able to slip right into the class. Good suggestion on the class Marsha...I' ve picked up a few pointers. If I couple these lessons with my Angela waters FMQ book...I may actually learn something... It's that execution thing - brain and hands not in sync...LOL Sorry to read of the machine troubles...I was there with the niece quilt, turned out it was my needles; the Bernina BSR only wants new needles...excuse me LOL... V.

Guys, I thought I'd let you know my Labor Day weekend finally came to an end yesterday. My friend who is a plumber came and crawled under the house. 2 trips to Lowe's and 6 hours later, he cut out 7 unnecessary, leaking couplings, replacing them with three, and straight pipe runs, and fixed 4 different leaks. STBX hadn't drilled through the joists like you're supposed to, to keep the plumbing up next to the floor for warmth. He'd gone down, under, up, across. Down, under, up and across thru out most of the crawlspace. One piece that Plumber Friend cut out, where the largest running water (not drip, running water) was, had 2 pieces of copper pipe held together with electrical tape. Not your best choice of plumbing material, but the theme of my DH's work Good enough for now. Plumber Friend said it had probably leaked since day 1, but over the last 6 weeks or so the tape had finally just plain been washed loose. 166 gallons of water a day! And people think I make this stuff up. So my plumbing is fixed after 3 days with my water shut off, 3 days without TV, 2 days of lost work, a new timing belt on my truck, and today... I get to go to work to pay for all of this. But, that @@#$! holiday weekend is over. Did anyone have a better one? Other than Abfabamy!? Bless your decorative heart!

Not a nice way for your day to start ! Sorry....and one mess always leads to another, with all that laundry, darn ! My husband wouldnt be of much help folding clothes either but he might be able to fix the pipes ? This must be why today is called Labor Day !! I agree with dotmom, he at least owes you a deluxe dinner at a fancy restaurant tonight !!!

Holy cow, Marilyn. If I ate at your house every day I would roll from one location to the next instead of walk ... your menus always look sooooooo gooooooood I'm sure I would have no willpower and would just eat it all up.

I'm hoping it's just me and DH for Labor Day weekend. I should have more tomatoes ready to put up by then, and no one ever wants to help me. LOL. They just like me to share the results.

Otherwise, we'll just take it easy all weekend. I hope to work on some cards for friends with fall birthdays. and maybe go through my card-making supplies to see what I might want to take to an October convention.

Our plans for the weekend probably won't solidify until about Thursday. Doubt DH will know for sure if he's working Sat. until then. Hoping he has a 3 day weekend, but am doubting it. He's only had one Saturday off since the beginning of March, so it's unlikely. If it's only a 2 day weekend, we'll be busy at the country house--lawn needs cutting, I'm having new windows installed Wed in the living room so we'll have some clean-up and rearranging to do. If he does get 3 days, I think I'll cook Sat. and invite some of the neighbors over for Pulgogi.

Hopefully nothing. We just got back from a huge 3-day car show, and are beat.

Hopefully, next weekend will be quiet and not too hot - might grill out on the deck.

I'm going to a pahrrr-TEE! Yep, annual Labor Day party. Fun, fun, fun. There will be about 30 people there, around a pool, cookout, vollyball, board games, food, fun, food, booze, food. It's all good.

Sat. we have family & friends for a Bar B Q, Sun night is fireworks and a fire. Monday Labour Day we relax!!!

the guys and few gals are doing fantasy football sat or sun..i assume monday we'll be fixing the gutter...so if dh is on a ladder even a short one, i don't like to be gone...

We have started to have monthly pot luck gatherings in our APT bldg, so that will take place on Saturday. Our Daughter, Son-on-law and Grand daughter will come up from the cities later on that aft. noon and stay till Sunday.

DD#1 and her family are coming, I think. The girls and I usually do the "touristy" thing on Labor Day, and visit all the shops that I never go into during the summer. Then off to a great lunch. The guys will probably work on their deer stands and go fishing. Hope it's not too hot.

Saturday will be a family BBQ. My nephew is finally home from Afghanistan for good. He's out of the reserves now. Sunday will be spent at the local Bluesfest. Taj Mahal headlining.
Monday...rest and get ready for another week.

DH and I are leaving on a cruise Sunday with 7 friends, so on Labor Day we will be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (hopefully not sharing the seas with any hurricanes!!!)

Monica, were you at the Corvette show? DH went with a friend to PA this past Saturday.

A bunch of local photographers are gonna be @ our local lake for the balloon classics. DH needs to be there @ 5:30am!!! I HATE seeing people and going somewhere before the sun is up!!!!

LOL, I thought the same as you Stoney. Sue, you make the biggest meals. I would be in hog heaven all the time!

We often Labor, on labor day. I can't do to much because of recent surgery but hope to enjoy a few local happenings.
I want to get to the farmers market at least once this summer.
