Your kitchen looks lovely! I like your black appliances. I think an island would be nice, you have the room. I use my island all the time and my kitchen doesn't look as big as yours. And a kitchen doesn't need to be fancy, it needs to be practical and easy to get around in and cook in.

My Island is portable on 4 wheels. Behind the two cabinet doors are my mixers, blender, toaster, everything you would normally have out on your counter. It has a drop down leaf on the back when extended makes 5 ft. work space. If I need to, I can roll it out of the way into the den. It makes a great place for the grandkids to eat. It is finished to match my cabinets.

I agree, an island would be an asset.

I like the idea of the Island being on wheeles with small cabinets to store stuff. You can look on line for ideas. SIL took the table top (with formica top) and turned it into a rolling cart. I store all sorts of stuff on the shelves and top, but would have liked it a bit lower.

Very nice!! I add my vote for the island. My kitchen is much smaller than yours, but I don't know what I'd do without my "island' (antique butcher block).

Oh, very nice and spacious kitchen, Monica! I'll vote for an island, too. We didn't have one for the first 17 years in this house, but when we got new countertops, we decided to have an island built to match the cabinets. We LOVE it! It holds all our pots and pans and cookie sheets and baking pans. The top is great work area and also perfect for when you have company over and need to keep working in the kitchen, just put your appetizers on it and let people visit with you while you cook. If it's the right height for 2 tall stools, even better!

Oh, we had a nice open space for it, but nearly as big a one as you have, so I say go for it, you'll love it!

I'm with gemini, you have a large empty area that's begging for a large island. Don't settle on something small, it would make the whole kitchen look out of whack.

A large island would make a great buffet when you have company over.

Very Nice. If you put in a island be sure its not too close to the sink & other stuff or you & DH with be bumping in to each other. I am temped to get rid of mine for that reason. With that big kitchen you shouldn't have that problem.

It's a Sub Zero....this is the refrigerator(no freezer) that cost a mint to fix last month and yes, it was worth it.

casey the bezt way to decide about the island is doing a mock one..tape off the space in the kitchen where you're thinking of placing it...consider opening fridge, walking ect...
