Little Bradley.........Amazing News!!!!!!!! =)

WOW here is some pretty amazing news! They are at St. Judes in Memphis and they were just given some amazing, hopeful news after he got out of surgery a while ago!! From their CarePage:

"we are in shock!

and that's an understatement! Lots of tears!!! The doc came in and spoke to us. He believes that he got all of the tumor out. Of course, there are still cancerous cells there but will be destroyed by proton therapy! Of course, being down this road one too many times we know he could be wrong and they are doing an mri tomorrow. He will remain sedated thru the night and after the mri they will let him slowly wake up. They said they need to leave the breathing tube in for now as his swallowing and vocal chords were manipulated and there will more than likely need time to heal again. As for his hearing he believes it won't be affected at all. As for a trach...well the verdict is still out and he said he doesn't think he will but we won't know for a little while. They are watching right now to make sure he doesn't have a stroke. They are finishing his stitches up and then they will come and get us to see him in ICU. It's amazing! Thank you for all the prayers. We couldn't ask for a better outcome right now...well, hoping no major defecits, but to get all the tumor!? That is huge as if they can get it all out like he believes he did then there is a less likely chance of the cancer ever coming back! We'll just have to take therapy one day at a time and pray! God brought us thus far and to this doctor for a reason, right?! Now if Bradley isn't healed by the time proton therapy should start then they will start chemo again on him to keep the cancerous cells from spreading until he is well enough to undergo proton therapy...not exactly what i want to hear, but we'll take it! Keep praying as we are not out of danger quite yet...but it is sure looking a heck of a lot better:)"

For those that might not know Bradley's story, his mom works with my daughter in Des Moines. This is also from his CarePage:

Bradley came in on Saturday Jan. 16th with an ear infection. 2 days later no progress and went back to doctor and he had strep throat. Still no progress on Friday and continually had been throwing up since Weds. Took him to ER and they took a tummy x-ray and said he was constipated. Took him back on Sunday as he was still sick and getting worse. Doctors did a catscan and it revealed that he had a brain tumor. They took him into immediate surgery and drained the fluid in the brain to relieve pressure. Have had many ups and downs and do not know what the outcome will be...but Jesus is here with him fighting for him and it will be good news.

Pudgeder, I've heard it said that everything in the desert is designed to kill you, or at least poke, stab, impale, scrape, or poison you. It's a beautiful kind of deadliness though, and so true that there is more life than most people realize in that environment. Oh, Jinx -- I wish I had seen them! How beautiful they are! We saw a pair of coyotes on two different mornings, both at around the same place on the road near our accommodation. No way to know, of course, if it was the same two, but they were smallish and could very well have just been making the rounds in their territory. I think they're fascinating animals! Amy, we plan to return this coming spring, for the explicit purpose of seeing the desert in bloom. I'm so excited! I might even take my good camera along this next time.

Another dog lover here, I want everyone I see! We were at the mall yesterday. On the way out my DH took me into a store that he had been in earlier just to meet the resident dog there. He called her name and she came wiggling and wagging her butt out from behind a counter to greet us. A beautiful white English Bulldog. The largest most sturdily built one I have ever seen. But what a sweetie! If I would have been able to get her on the scooter with me, I would have whisked her out of there when nobody was looking and brought her home with me!

Isn't it amazing? I just read the update and posted on the Guestbook!! The Mom just updated again and they got to see Bradley. She said she was rubbing his arm and leg and the nurse told her he wouldn't respond. Less that 2mins later he started moving around and trying to wake up! They don't want him awake right now..so they sedated him more!

I am so happy for them and will continue with prayers for them all. I am so glad you posted this as I have been wondering how they were all doing but was afraid to ask, I'm not on here daily but do try to keep up with all the prayer requests. Thanks for keeping us posted.

They had a webcast with our local TV station and it aired at 10....I had to grab a kleenex!!! They don't have the video cast up on their website yet...but here is the written report:

MEMPHIS, TN - Chris and Angie Allen of Ankeny believe in miracles. We first introduced you to their son, Bradley in January when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Today, that tumor was removed at Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital in Memphis.

"As hard as it is, I mean it's more tears of happiness and joy than anything," Chris Allen says as his wife adds, "Because this is huge. I know that he has the best chance of recovery after this"

This was a very dangerous operation, especially for a child. The Allen's braced for the worst--everything from their son losing his hearing to becoming paralized--even dying. But the surgery exceeded their highest hopes. we spoke with Bradley's mom after she touched her son for the first time---minutes after the surgery. "I was trying to hold his hand and I was giving him a little foot massage," Angie says smiling, "At first I was told he would stay asleep. Don't expect him to do anything. Then he started opening his eyes and started to sit up." That means--no paralysis.

"I was excited to see him going. See him moving his hands. A little bit of his legs," Angie says, "So that's awsome news for us. There was a chance he could be quadriplegic or paraplegic after this and I'm thinking he just proved he wasn't gonna be."

The allens say they have their friends, family and thousands of complete strangers who offered support and prayers to thank. "Hopefully their lives have been touched and changed in a positive way like ours have with all this good news," Chris says. Angie adds, "There's been so many helpful people at home. We have three other kids at home and I know our neighbors have stepped up and...are with them when we can't be. And that means a lot."
