Yes, I had mine last week. And I wish that could have been the end of it. But no. They didn't like the way it looked, so I had another yesterday, then an ultra-sound. The doc at first said that it just looked like a lymph node, and I should just follow up with another mammogram in 3 months. Then, when I got back to work there was a message waiting for me from the doc. I called and she said that she was not comfortable waiting 3 months and wanted me to have a biopsy. So that is scheduled for next week. Given that a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia in the other breast and had it removed, I guess this is best. Sometimes I think Christina Applegate and others have the right idea. Sigh.....

I had mine on St. Patrick's Day. Good for you, Spicey, for getting it done.

I get mine every January. Havem't missed ever!

I'm scheduled for October 1. I belong to a breast screening program, so am regularly checked. The last time I had it done was just before my reduction surgery, 2 years ago. They tried to give me a hard time because of the scar tissue, but I just asked my doctor to fax over a requisition for one anyway. I just feel that if I put it off, I will regret it in the long run.

I kept putting it off last year and now I'm due again. Always scheduled pap and mamogram for September (my birthday - makes it easier to remember).

I had one last year, after NOT having one for about 10 years. Stupid. And the only reason I went was cause I was having shooting pains in my left breast.
They called me back for another mammo, saw soemthing in the right breast. Then they did an ultra sound (I think) with the radiologist right there, they decided it was just an innocent mass. But I will NOT be skipping it this year. I'm due next month.

I'm disappointed that in Canada, once you each 75, they quit paying for mamograms. It seems that they don't think cancer matters so much when we are older - at least breast cancer. I'm disappointed. Prior to reaching that age, I went regularily. I'm sure though that if my Dr. thought there was a problem that testing could be arranged. The thing is that once it is far enough advanced to be noticealbe with self exams that maybe it is too late to do anything.

well thank you for reminding me and i happen to be on a vacation day tomorrow so i can call. i've had 5 so far, i'm 40 w/ a very strong family history. my GYN will not write my script for birth control pills i need to help my endometriosis unless i get my yrly pap and mammogram, so i can't go w/o getting those tests. good plan IMO :-) it's all covered on my insurance and AFLAC pays me $50 for ea test too. ~ liz

My mammogram is scheduled for September 4th.
I had a lumpectomy last year.....turned out to be a lipoma within the milk duct.
I am glad your doc is doing the biopsy now......sounds like a good doc.

Is it possible that there are some screening centers or some kind of other funding available? Can you mention to your Dr that you really feel that you need one?

Im good till Feb when I went through the 2nd mamogram, the ultrasound and the biopsy. Atypical ductal hyperplasia? Sounds what I may have, Donna can you e mail me so we can compare notes? I have 2 on one breast and one that I have had for at least 10 yrs on the other. I was told they can be removed but that they could not say if it would return or that I could lose sensation so I have not had it done.

I had my last one in June 2007. Kaiser says every 2 years, but I don't feel comfortable with that, so I am making my appt. soon.

Good for you intherain. Seems like 2 years is a long time, especially if you have any history in your family.

Rita and Lydia - If you can't make the appointment today, can you at least look up the number, so it is handy for next week?

Had my annual mammo last week. Waiting for results.

I had mine on my one remaining boob in May. Mine is scheduled for next May already, a week before I see the oncologist. Another hint to everyone is to make sure that you get it done at the same place so that the radiologist has a comparison from year to year.

Just the other day, a neighbor of mine said she saw the funniest card....It was a picture of a nurse in front of the mammogram machine and a man, dressed in a hospital gown walking into the room with a very frightened expression and the nurse saying "Next"?

Mine is scheduled for later in Sept. I just had my yearly well woman apt. with my doctor. I could have had it sooner but with my surgery we decided to wait until I was hopefully back in real shoes. I get one every year, not a fun thing but very necessary.

Done in June. After three biopsies some years ago when my children were small, I'm waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too scared not to have one every year.

Intherain, I'm also with Kaiser and all I have to do is ask, to have one every year. I think that two years is suggested, but I'm pretty sure they would never deny you a yearly check, especially if there is more reason for you to be careful.

Gardenspice, I have a friend who is well-educated and has dealt with doctors all her life due to her lupus, and she can't work up the courage to go. It's crazy, and she knows it. I talk about it from time to time and won't let it drop, and I really thought she was going to do it this summer. I do understand the fear 'cause I've still got tons of it, but I've got to get that girl to the mamo clinic!

Please ladies, get this done every year. I was diagnosed with breast cancer by a mammo and follow up tests. I had a lumpectomy and radiation, and I've been doing great for 7 years now. Before my operation, I couldn't feel a lump, even though I knew the location from the tests. There is no history of breast cancer in my family

I was able to be treated via lumpectomy and radiation. If I hadn't had the yearly mammo, the treatment would have been more drastic, and I'd have a much greater chance of having a recurrence.

So please have the mammo.

I'm very faithful! That's how my cancer was found and treated quickly. Six year survivor!

I had mine in Dec,and yes i get them every year.They saw something suspicious,and had me re check in 6 mos.Went back in july for re-check,and that suspicious lump had grown to 2cm's.Had both breasts removed last week and am now waiting for the pathology reports to see what next.Dr is sure i won't need radiation,but thinks i will need some form of chemo.

Still have the drains in and am miserable.Hope to get those out friday.

So yes go get those mammograms.Hoping and praying that mine was caught early,and i won't have to do to much chemo.

gardenspice--That was good of you. I've offered to do that and to make the call for her, as I feel sometimes that's the hardest thing to do when you're scared. No luck so far, but I'll keep at it.

kathi mgdg--I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you're doing. I'm so sorry that you are miserable; do you hurt quite a lot? (Dumb question??) I do hope you have appropriate pain meds, if so. I'm not sure what the drains are and how they work, but I'm glad to hear they will come out within a week. I haven't looked at the lists of posts in awhile, but I'd like to encourage you to post to let everyone know how you are; I know some people were thinking of you and wondering how your surgery went. I'll say a prayer for you, for a quick recovery and successful treatment.

Had mine in June so I'm good for a while. I also have family history and I'm high risk anyway, so I try to keep up with it.

I'll be calling on Monday, our hospital sends out reminders of when to make your appointment. I'm high risk also. Have had 2 aunts on mom's side die from breast cancer. Last year they saw new calcium deposits in the left breast so it's every 6 months for the time being for me. No - I'm overdue and I've been telling myself to call Monday and get it scheduled. Just sat with a friend yesterday who had a masectomy - Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

"Pats on the back" for everyone that has had or scheduled their mammo...this is one yearly exam you should NEVER forget.

I would like to add...."monthly self-exams" are important! Not only check your breasts, but include your arm pits, neck and groin area. Lymph nodes are in all those areas!

As a two time survivor of breast cancer...I have a mammogram followed with an ultra sound every 6 months.

My oncologist and breast specialist keep a close eye on me. I am very fortunate to have good insurance.

Mine is due in November. I have never missed one since 1988 when they removed a benign lump. I think it was a type of hyperplasia as well.

Last month I had a second colonoscopy. First was 5 years ago. Last time nothing, this time 3 precancerous polyps were removed. I will have to repeat the procedure in 2-3 years.

As much as we all hate these tests, they can save your life. And, after hearing Ruthie G's story, I am going to ask my family Dr. about having a chest x-ray when I have my annual checkup too.

I'm scheduled for January near my birthday. It's my annual gift to myself. My girlfriend and I have been going together to get our annual mammograms for 28 years. We make a day of it. We go into Philadelphia early in the morning and then spend the day shopping, seeing a show or movie and treating ourselves to a wonderful lunch.

For those of you who keep putting it off - the new digital mammograms are so simple. They do not have to clamp down as hard as they did with the old Xray machines. So please don't delay any longer. And if you're really reluctant go with a friend.

Not looking forward to showing all to yet another new doctor, and besides, it was time for all anyway, I did EVERYTHING in July.

Free for 10 month.
