Any mushroom experts here

Hi all,

I am an infrequent lurker that has a question. A little background.....when I was a kid, my grandmother would pick mushrooms that looked like large sea coral type fans. I am pretty sure she got them off of trees but not 100%. She would wash them well, slice in somewhat thin layers, dip them in egg and bread crumbs and fry them up. They tasted just like pork chops and were wonderful. Present day, I have some huge elm trees along our back property line and also in the woods to the east and north of our property. Over the years, I've noticed mushrooms on the trees. On one of our trees, up high, are two of the most beautiful, white, large tree mushrooms. Would these be the ones I remember from my childhood? Is this type of mushroom edible? I have looked up tree mushrooms on the net and from what I found, they are edible but to tell you the truth, I am leary. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jan
