Glenda, meatloaf (even mine) usually gives me heartburn and/or indigestion. Are you feeling that along with thirst?

Even if I make meatloaf as lean as I can and avoiding the ingredients hard on my tummy, I often have the same after effects. I don't recall being extra thirsty however.

Just put a tic tac in my mouth to see if that helps and filled my second glass of ice water.

I get heartburn and aftertaste. I don't remember it making me extra thirsty. Must be extra salt in the breading or spices.

I love meatloaf. In fact, I use to say if I was on death row, my last meal request would be meatloaf, mashed potatoes and red cabbage. But it had to be my meatloaf. LOL.

Glenda, add a little lemon or lime juice to your water. That should help a lot. It will help your system re-hydrate as you drink the water.

I quit eating meatloaf at my favorite country cooking place, cause of it, and then today, I forgot and ate it at Golden Corral. So it's a combination of something in meatloaf that makes me thirsty.

It's probably a seasoning they add Glenda. I just made meatloaf tonight and it didn't make me thirsty... of course I do drink more water than most people during the day.

I have that experience if I eat meatloaf that was made with bread crumbs as a binder.....I make my meatloaf using oatmeal and it comes out moister and I have no heartburn, after taste or thirst problems.

I like meatloaf and never have any tummy troubles after eating it. If you use packaged onion soup mix, it has lots of salt. That may be the culprit. I read one meatloaf recipe that recommends frying the onions first.

I can't make meatloaf like my mom used to make but do love it. Hot porkchops upset my stomach but meatloaf has never made me feel thirsty. Ham does, though.

It's something in meatloaf that gets me every time.

I use regular soda crackers for a binder and don't add any other salt at all. If they salted the meat and used crackers that would make it really salty, at least for me. Since we cut back drastically on salt, everything in a restaurant tastes too salty. :-) I have to remember to put salt and pepper shakers on the table when company comes.

Maybe your GS can take you on as a science project and figure this mystery out!! LOL Could it be MSG? You probably eat other stuff w/ MSG though.

I'm with lazypup....I use oatmeal in my meatloaf. That began purely by accident because I didn't have any bread in the house. I've been using oatmeal for at least 40 years.

No I never notice that...but I've always got a glass of ice tea attached to me...lol

We have meatloaf patties for our supper meal every now and then.

Last week I made them with chopped green pepper, cut up fresh tomatoes,egg , shredded chedder cheese and Italian bread crumbs. One of our favorites.

I always used to think meatloaf was dry, didn't like it.
When I make meatloaf it's juicy, people ask for seconds.
Besides dry ingredients I use 2 eggs, milk, ketchup and
A1 sauce. sometimes more items if I have them like Kitchen Bouquet.

Meatloaf at any restaurant is almost always loaded with salt & sodium which will have a number of effects on some people. If you react to that, then likely the same to meatballs and similar dishes since they're often made the same way with same ingredients - just put in a different shape. I'd be hard-pressed to believe the shape of it would have anything to do with it - it's the contents.

I've become so much more sensitive to the taste of salt these days since I've been cutting down on it so much. There's so many foods, especially restaurant foods that taste awful to me now - too salty. Restaurants basically have to put it in there, along with outrageous fat, horrendous amounts of sugar and more. All because the fat American society won't eat something that isn't deep-fried, sugar-coated salt tablets!

Many restaurants routinely over-salt everything, that could account for your thirst. I can't eat at Denny's because everything they make, from pancakes to side dishes, tastes terribly salty to me and makes me very thirsty.
