What is a Browser's Cache?

I still have to hit my back-button twice and I have no idea what the above (in subject title) is. I did write to the powers that be two days ago but have not heard back. I'd love to "clear (my) browser's cache and try again..." if only I knew what it was. Can anyone help me?

Your browser cache is a folder that stores certain info from websites - pictures, banners, sometimes even the whole page. If you don't clear your cache, this can get quite large and can slow down your machine. It can also store outdated material, so it is a good idea to do regular maitenance including clearing your cache.

What browser are you using?

I use Firefox and sad to say, my dh does the maintenance because I'm fairly clueless. But he's not home right now and I'm thoroughly sick of hitting the back button twice. Any chance you can tell me how to find this folder I need to clear out? (If you're not busy.) I could give it a try!

Both core drills and spade/ 3-point/ spearpoint drills require the same effort to use. You insert the bit into a drill motor or drillpress & drill the material while keeping it cool. Water works ok as a coolant, but a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze (delivered from a contact lens solution squirt bottle) is much better and will extend the life of the tool considerably. The core drill is better for glass and highly vitrified materials, even thought the spade drill will work ok when it's fairly new. I use spearpoint drills to drill terra cotta or terra cotta with a skim coat of ceramic. For hard materials, I use the diamond core drill. When drilling, you can turn the pot upside down in a tub or bucket and fill until the surface you're drilling is barely covered by water. That saves you from having to use the squirt bottle as a coolant, but isn't as practical if you want to use the water/ antifreeze mix. Owning a glass company for almost 40 years has provided the need and opportunity to drill holes in many different types of material harder than wood, many types of glass, ceramic, granite and other types of stone among them. It's something we do every day. BTW - in hard materials, spearpoint drills tend to 'chatter' and produce out of round holes. Browsers maintain a "Cache". The cache is a folder on your hard drive where recently viewed pages and images downloaded while you are on the Internet are stored. (Temporary Internet Files) This speeds up loading the page the next time you visit that page. However..you can eventually wind up with a huge cache containing thousands of graphics and small files. Ultimately, this slows the browser, and can cause glitches with some sites. Unless you have a VERY slow connection, the space allocated for the cache may be lowered to a more reasonable level, which will improve overall performance. Clearing cache in Internet Explorer: 1. Right-click the IE icon on the desktop. 2. Select "Properties" 3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" 4. Click OK. 5. Click "OK" again to close. Cache Location Click Tools > Internet Options>Settings. Look halfway down the page for "Current Location". Windows creates a "cache" folder for each user. (named "Temporary Internet Files") If you try to view the cache folder using "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer", you may not be able to find it. This is because the folder is hidden by default. To view the folder: 1. Start>Programs>Windows Explorer>My Computer>"C" drive or the drive in which "Windows" is installed. 2. On the toolbar at the top of the page, click Tools > Folder Options>View. 3. From the list shown, select "Show Hidden Files and Folders" 4. Also, "deselect" Hide Extensions for Known File Types and "Hide Protected Operating System Files". 5. Click OK. You may now double-click the "Temporary Internet Files" folder to view the contents, using the location described in "Current Location" which you viewed previously. (The default location for Temporary Internet Files in WinXP is: C > Documents and Settings>(user name) >Local Settings>Temporary Internet Files) Reduce cache size By default, the cache size is set to be quite large. Performance can be improved by lowering the size of the cache. 1. From the IE toolbar, choose Tools > Internet Options. 2. On the General tab, click the Settings button. 3. Lower the cache size using "Amount of Disk Space to Use". (For an accurate setting, use the number window instead of the slider.Lower the setting to 75MB.) For Mozilla Firefox: Open the browser and on the toolbar, click Tools>Options>Privacy. Use the "Clear All" button to cleanup. Click the "Plus" sign next to "Cache" and set the cache size to the desired amount. 70,000 KB is 70 Megabytes, which is a good size for the cache file.

GW/Houzz page rendering on my browser

I've had that page come up, but only since the move to Houzz. I'm on an iPad (iOS 8, Safari browser). It only comes up intermittently, and only when I use my back button. If I click on any of the links it returns me to Houzz. I thought it was some kind of 'ghost' popping up because they're working with the software. Edited to add: I'm pretty sure the one I've been seeing has the GW headings listed. I'll pay more attention if it happens again.

You need this little software, it will do it for you when you click on it. The download site is on the upper right hand corner, the green icon. I don't think it is the cache that is causing your problem. With FF I have my forums on the bookmark tool bar and just click on the Kitchen Table - Garden tab when I want to go back. I think this forum has been having problems with the back button???

I have ccleaner also. I use it after every internet search since I never know what spyware I pick up.

Pawprint, CC is recommended in the help forum and I find it to be better than everything I have used. I still use 2 or 3 spyware softwares, but if I use CC first the others never come up with anything. Just don't ever use the registry part unless you really know what you are doing.

Using Firefox, go to the top and
click on Tools
Then choose Clear recent history
Then from the dropdown (Time range to clear) box choose everything
Then click on details and check cache and anything else you want to clear...
Lastly, click clear now

I use CrapCleaner every time I shut the computer down or visit a questionable website - I really like it.

No, you will not loose your bookmarks, or anything you are working on, like things in your documents.

You must not have the most recent version of FF. What are your choices for clearing private data? I think there is a list of them, including browsing history, and cookies, and some other things.

If you clear your cookies, you will have to log in again at places where you have chosen to stay logged in...like here at GW, or Yahoo, or Photobucket....just so you know. Cookies do need to be deleted every so often though, as having too many of them can slow your computer...or that is my understanding...don't quote me.

For the ladies that use CCleaner, did you download the latest version? The 3.13? I'm only asking because I find that FF freezes up on me frequently and am thinking it might be since the latest version came onboard. I don't want to download the latest CCleaner if the older one is the most favoured.

Stargazzer...Don't be afraid of the Registry Integrity option of CC. I've had this tool [CC] on my system for years and I've always checked off items under the Registry. Currently...the only items NOT checked off are "Fonts, Help Files and Run at Startup"...and that's purely personal choice because I have no need to worry about the first 2 and my paid version of AVG runs at start up...so I don't really need CC at that entry point.

As a general suggestion to one and all...make sure to check for updates with this tool on a regular basis. Even though I have opted for automatic updates...I find that it rarely does so. I'm currently using the latest v.2.22.968 for Windows XP Pro SP3...and the new appearance is terrific. The first time I saw it...I was suspect because CC has always been rather non-decorative in nature. Now it's become one of the "Big Boys". ;-)

It's really a fantastic, friendly/non invasive/non aggressive tool that plays well with MS and with my paid version of AVG.

I have AOL and clean out their cache freqesntly Since most non aol goes thru Explorer I clean out that too by opening up Explorer and going to Tools and then from there dlean it out. I also have CC cleaner which I like because there is a way to save your cookies (like passwords and bank info) without losing them whne you clean out your cookies. I used to delete cookies by hand so I wouldn't lose important ones now it is so easy with CCleaner

I have firefox and after cleaning out my cache, I went to View, and clicked on Reload. This reloads the page and things are working much better now.
