Sorry that little one is sick.

When my girls were little my pediatrician alway tried to tell me that cutting teeth didn't cause fevers. But every single time any of my kids were cutting teeth they had fevers. I didn't believe him then and I don't believe it now.

My great grandaughter will be "1" next week...she has been very busy cutting teeth for about three months and she has had lots of fevers...Her chubby cheeks have been so red.

She spent the night with me Saturday night so her grandma and grandpa could go out for a change. Their youngest child is 14. Now they are starting all over with having this grandaughter. they have legal custody.

Figured it was more than one tooth, like I posted on the other thread.

Teething for some kids is a real B!oitch!!

Ug. I hate teeth-cutting. I sure hope hers come through quickly! Oliver is getting 4 teeth right now, and he's constantly chewing his fingers. He doesn't get fevers with it though, but Sophie and Benjamin always did when they cut their teeth - red cheeks and diaper rash as well. Fun stuff!

Glad she doesn't have an ear infection, though! I know how you feel about the fever. I detest when my kids have fevers, especially if I'm not certain what's causing it.

I'm glad you take time to update us. Moms have to make time for themselves and need to stay connected! If I spent every second with my 3 and didn't take some adult time ("real life" and on here), I'm pretty sure I'd go crazy.

Hopefully you were able to get her on your insurance! I know that process can take a while.

ER trips are ridiculously expensive. My insurance was billed $900 for a routine pregnancy test when I went in for a kidney stone a few years back. I'm thankful I had the insurance or I'd be in massive debt cause the costs are so absurd.

Someone mentioned some teething tablets (Don't remember what they're called beyond "teething tablets" and I found them at Wal-mart with the vitimans..and you almost have to crawl on the floor)..AMAZING things those are. I'd truely invest the Also if you didn't know with fevers you can alternate Tylenol and Moltrin (childrens)...someone here will know how often..but it helps with fevers and pain.

Oh and glad it wasn't an ear infection, those teeth can hurt when comming in!!

Thanks for the update! I'm glad you took her in, I would hate to see you wait until tomorrow. At least the ear infection is ruled out.

I remember those awful days of teething. My oldest never had any problems, but it was a nightmare for my youngest. I vividly remember the very red cheeks.

Thanks for letting us know how she is doing. That darn old teething can be do difficult for some babes. My kids didn't have any trouble, one day they were all gums, the next we heard a click when feeding them with a spoon. I sure hope the little darling feels better soon, as I'm sure you do now, that you know it isn't anything more serious.

Updates are always appreciated. Please continue to post about the progress of day to day living with your 3 little ones.

Glad the problem was only teething, but you can't be too careful..it could have been something serious.

Children's tylenol and anbesol (sp?) were in the diaper bag all the time for my girls. My girls seemed to get relief when I rubbed the anbesol on their sore gums. My oldest used to get terrible diaper rash also and we used diaper cream (it has been 20 years so I can't remember the name!)

sounds silly but get yourself something like dr spock, or one of the "what to expect" books..it's well worth it to have on hand and check out, before making that dr call...

oh, one other thing? don't give the kids meds before going to the dr...they need to get accurate temp readings...i made that mistake several times, lol...

You can alternate Tylenol and Motrin, that way you can give something every 2 hours rather than every 4 hours. I used to write it down so I could remember which one I gave 2 hours ago. I remember my mom telling me that her mom said brandy was the best thing for teething. I didn't want to rub brandy on DS's gums but I thought my taking a shot of brandy was a good thing when I was sleep-deprived because of teething.
I am happy you took her to the ER since you don't have an urgent care.

i love linda's brandy tip, i don't have any children but i do have some cranky doggies right now so i think i'll give it a try ;-) my dh was not here at 7:30pm to take them on their nighttime walkies, he started a new college schedule today, so they are very upset right now, lucky me LOL! think i'll make a white russian atleast the milk is just before bedtime :-) ~ liz

Fevers in kids are really scary. They'll go from zero to 60 in the space of half and hour. Their body controls don't fully develop until around age 10.

Back in the dark ages my pediatrician said teething does not cause fever. However, they are cranky and run down and more susceptable to picking up illness, especially from older siblings.

Wait until school starts and the older ones bring home every germ known to man. The youngest will be far sicker than the others. The bronchial tubes become full-sized also around age 10. Before that croup is not uncommon, simply because it is tougher for them to cough and clear their lungs on their own.

Just please don't go old school and rub her down with alcohol. A sudden, quick change in temp is just as bad as the fever.

Remember too the fevers are the body's way of fighting infections.A fever of 101-102 in a child may not be cause for too much concern.If it continues after giving tylenol or motrin or you can't get it down,then it's time to consult a doctor.I don't blame you for worrying though.Fevers always scared me,especially in the little bitty ones.I hope Tayler is feeling better now.

May I make a suggestion? Frozen waffles are really good when a child is teething too. We also used the teething tablets.

I will second the teething tablets, they are a life saver. They had them at the pharmacy and also at Walmart. They were by the baby oragel, which also is another big helper.

Another suggestion from another mama with lots of little ones. It may be expensive the first go round but evens out. Go to the store and stock up on saline nose spray ( for stuffy noses), tylonol, motrin, tummy medicine (childrens pepto and tums), vicks, ice packs, cute bandaids, triple antibiotic cream, calamine lotion, and any other things that you can think of. Believe me finding motrin at 10 at night in a one horse town is no fun. Luckily another teacher had some and let us borrow it.
