Who reads Lee Child?

I think someone here mentioned him and I was wondering which books do you recommend? I've got the first one (The Hard Way) and wondered if y'all have some favorites?

If you are a fan of the character, you usually like them all, some more than others. Who could not like a guy like Jack Reacher, who travels with just his tooth brush in his pocket and his check card, or something like that, and buys a new set of clothes every few days and tosses away what he had been wearing. I have read many of the series but, in looking at his book list, not all of them.

Mariou, What region of the country are in? Most California rosarians do not have to deal with the rampant black spot typical in my zone 6b garden. Their biggest problem is mildew. If you garden in the Mid-Atlantic, for example, you will have to contend with the worst fungal pressures in the country. Roses that are completely clean - no spray - in places like Petaluma CA will defoliate elsewhere. I do not have Julia Child but I have grown Happy Child for years. It is pretty little rose, approximately 2.5 feet tall with an loose, open growth habit. Good repeat bloom and truly lovely flowers. Fragrance is moderate to strong, and Tea-like. The foliage is rather unusual looking, resembling spinach leaves. In my region black spot can be a problem but is resistant to other fungal diseases. To prevent defoliation you would have to spray it with a fungicide every two weeks to control the black spot. About my only real complaint is the vigor. Without disbudding during years one and two, an own root plant will limp along never maturing. It is also a wee bit more sensitive to the cold than your typical English Rose. I lost one during a particularly cold winter, which I quickly replaced in the spring. You would too if you ever saw the blossoms. The yellow color is extremely pure without any secondary tones. Very few roses combine fragrance with such clear, canary yellow color. You can purchase an own root plant of HAPPY CHILD online from Heirloom Roses. Good luck, Patrick

Straycat.. This is exactly what I want to communicate in this documentary.. as I mentioned on another thread.. many of us have the same voice same stories same thoughts.. I think we have to band together and express ourselves.. what will our society be like in the future if this is an acceptable practice. You know that by treating us the way they do, they are showing their children that this is an appropriate behavior. I have been talking to Mark Sichel about this and he has agreed to be part of my video as well as an advisor.. he said "I have a great deal of information on this now for my second book which I may finish writing some day, but it's all about the success of relationships having to do with virtue & character. People need a higher purpose (like the correctness of family relationships) and a commitment to courage, humility, correctness....or the result is disastrous. Unfortunately the psychopathic narcissistic behavior is encouraged in our world by commercialism, corporate greed, etc" I think he is right on and at the same time.. I feel sadly as you do.. I could not let them in my life.. I could not trust them ever again... they are total strangers.. big big hugs..

Not really, as they are individual stories. It does help to know his background, which is brought up in earlier stories, but not necessary, as it is explained a little in the current story. I had to think about this for awhile as I have such a bad cold, my thinking is muddled!

I do and of course J.D. Robb her alter ego. From the library I currently have books by Ngaio Marsh (mystery), Miriam Toews, Star Jones (yes, the Star Jones and sure to be cr#p but oh well), Mary Burton (a thriller), Jill Mansell, Lindsay Faye, David Balducci and Deborah Raney. I left Dick Francis on the shelf and will hopefully get it soon. I don't tend to pre-read the beginnings of books as I see others do at the library so I will often start a book at home and wind up not finishing it because it's poorly written or the story isn't to my liking. I do read a real mix of genres and authors.

Go to Google and write in "Lee Child Books" and you can find his books in order. His first book in the Jack Reacher series was "The Killing Floor." The book you read is the 10th in the series and he is now on number 13.

Probably more than you want to know, but I get obsessed with knowing things. In reading the list I see they recommend reading book No. 8 first, as it is a prequel to the first book, Killing Floor. It looks like he has a new one coming out named "61 Hours."

Love the books. I haven't read them all, not yet. Now, anyone read John Sandford's "Prey" books? Those need to be read in order. The Reacher books, not so much.

I read one recently--The Persuader. It seemed too long and too much murdering. Not my type of book.

Just start at the beginning and read them all. I think he writes a great story. When I find a new author that I like, I want to read everything he has written.

I'm also a fan of John Sanford, but his next book out is featuring Virgil Flowers again and I am not too fond of him. I think he wants to put a little romance in his books and since Davenport is married, he is switching to Flowers. I wish he would go back to Davenport and put in a little more about the teenage girl he and his wife took in. I can't remember her name right now. Is it Letty?

Yes, Letty, and I think she is 16 in the book I just started, "Invisible Prey".

Flowers is pretty colorful. I don't mind him.

But Davenport is a hunk like Jack Reacher is a hunk. I like reading about them both.
