My first dog, an Irish Setter female became incontinent when she was eight years old. She lived to be 14. Like your dog, the problem was at night when she was sleeping. Everyday I would have to scrub the laundry room floor and my worst fear came to fruition. It started to permeate under the tiles. I pulled up the tiles, scrub the back and the sub flooring and glued them back down. After that, we made a little house for her in the corner of the garage. I figured it was a lot easier to hose down the garage floor. There are some pills to give them. I think it was a hormone pill. The problem with that is the neighbor male dog found Katy very attractive once she was on the medication. LOL.

My 12 yo dog did the same thing, bigack, mostly while resting and sleeping. She did not have an infection, was completely unaware of it happening. It was about 10 years ago, so perhaps there is a new drug now, but there wasn't then. I hope there is.

The sad news is that my dog died of kidney failure while at the vet's, after being incontinent for only a few weeks. I wish you well in this. It's very difficult, and heart-breaking, an almost impossible situation to cope with.

One drug they use for that is Proin. Paisley was on it for several years and it worked really well at first. We eventually had to supplement that and make her some diapers that velcroed on and held a small pad, she didn't mind that at all and it was so much easier than constantly wiping up and cleaning dribbles.

The Proin was like a miracle drug at first, call your vet and ask them about it. If you end up needing diapers, I can send you my pattern. You'd have to adjust for size, but the store-bought/custom ones are really pricey. You can see a photo of her wearing one here....

Ginger, my Lab/Golden mix, 2-1/2 yrs old, was put on Proin a few months ago. Hasn't dribbled since the first day I put her on it. 50 mg once per day. I did the hormone pill for about a month but it didn't work. Ask your vet about it. You can get them online with a vet's RX but I get them though my vet and will beat any online price. Good luck!

I forgot to mention above that I researched Propin before putting Ginger on it. There were some horror stories out there but my vet said that those dogs probably already had other issues going on with them. He said that Proin is safe and he calmed my fears. There's been no changes in her attitude or anything. In fact, she's a much happier dog because she thought that she was being bad when she dribbled in the house. She knows now that she isn't anymore any she's so much happier.

Our previous Yorkie was incontinent for his final year. I made "diapers" for him, and used mini-pads in them. He didn't seem to object at all, and it certainly saved our floors and carpet.

My little girl yorkie is 3 1/2 years old and has spayed incontinence and has been on hormones 1 time a week, every week and it is working. She has been on it for one year. The only thing we notice is she is a little sleepy the day she gets her pill. Otherwise she is our awesome little girl...PAgirlEH

My daughter's dog had been put on DES several years ago because of the incontinence. It worked just fine...she took it about 3 times a week. Unfortunately, last January she was diagnosed with lymphoma, received several months of chemotherapy, but unfortunately Missy succumbed to her cancer 2 weeks ago. However, the DES had nothing to do with it.

As an aside, we will never again give our dogs rabies shots. Instead we�ll have the titre done. It seems that whether it's coincidental or not, many dogs seem to be diagnosed with lymphoma within a month or so of getting their rabies inoculations.
