Anyone have success with citronella anti bark dog collar?
Comments (9)My dad and I had to buy many years ago bark collars that had just come out and read about them on the internet and mentioned them to my dad, these are ones that do not spray as we don't like anything to be sprayed at them. We called the puppy trainer that trained them with the invisible fencing we got when they were puppies and she worked with them and the male dog didn't like it at all and the female dog as with the collar for invisible fencing had to up it so she would get effected from it. We were also told like the invisible fencing collars don't keep them on at all times as their necks wil break down, so give them relief like at night and when you aren't there so that if anything goes wrong, you are home to help them out. It got all I had to do with the male dog, he would hear his sister running outside and go charging outside too and start barking and I would say do you want the collar and he would immediately quiet and go inside. I didn't like him not barking totally as I like him protecting and he did when anyone did drive up to the house and they would see him or hear a dog barking and watch him despite being small size. You have to be home when you first do it to make sure its okay and also don't freak them out bad like the invisible fencing collars can. Just watch them. Also like in any training use your words to them like you say no bark and if they keep going on, then put the collar on and say no bark, if its not working, its not strong enough but make sure someone that knows how to do it do it properly and not over load it up. It worked for our dogs and like I said with the male dog it got that I just said the word to him do you want the collar? And he didn't have to wear it saying that to him. Yes, they will still bark without and then you go back if its a problem again but I gave the male a good chance and he didn't wear it especially when we lost his sister and so he was quieter then....See MoreAnyone ever have a dog diagnosed with lymphoma?
Comments (25)My Dane was not showing signs either we had been fighting a sore on his back leg that would not heal, well it would heal go away then come back. It was during this process that I noticed one of his lymph nodes in his rear thigh was about the size of an egg, he had had that happen before and gave us a scare several years earlier but upon biopsy it was not lymphoma and it reduced on it's own. Once I found the one this time I took him to the vet and she did a full body lymph node inspection and all of them were very enlarged, she took biopsies immediately and sent them to Texas A&M oncology, we got the answer back in just a few days it was positive and it was already in stage 4, they gave him 3 to 4 months. He did not act sick, he had a great appetite, but he began to not be able to get up and down and then would lose control of bladder and bowel, which embarrassed him so much he was such a good dog. When his face began to bloat up and he could not get up we decided it was time. Our wonderful vet and her entire staff came to our home to do it so he would be at home and surrounded by love. It was very peaceful and he is now buried under the big oak tree out back. It was hard on us for a while but knowing it was the right thing to do made it a bit easier. That picture I posted is shortly before we had to put him down he had lymph nodes at that time about the size of oranges all over his body. but he was still playing with little Mia. I know this will be a devastating time for your family, you at least have some of her still with her offspring that is so fortunate. Remember all those great times you shared! I feel your pain and am shedding tears with you....See MoreAnyone have a room for their Dogs :)
Comments (10)A dog's room? My dog owns the whole house. LOL. Yeah, mine too. He has three beds -- one by the computer, one in the living room, one hidden behind a catty-cornered recliner in the family room (we always avert our eyes when he heads back there, as he genuinely believes we don't know about that one) -- yet at night he still sleeps in my or my youngest daughter's bed. And he has "his sofa" in the office. He's trained to ring a bell when he wants to go outside, and he loves that we live on the corner in a big neighborhood where loads of people walk other dogs. He himself gets a good long walk every morning with my daughter and another with me in the evenings. He goes to the nearby bark park frequently, and once a week he goes to Camp Bow Wow to socialize with other dogs. If I go back to school in the evenings, he goes with me. He has a little towel and water bowl in the corner by my desk. His biggest problem in life: We force him to take a bath. He's not the unloved fellow who was tied to the shelter in the middle of the night and abandoned (probably because an irresponsible backyard breeder learned he was completely blind; thus, unsellable). He's not the same scared puppy we brought home from the shelter, covered in ticks and fleas. As for building, I always intend to have a dog -- probably a small one about our current dog's size. I intend to do a couple things for him: - I'm planning a spot for him to eat in the mudroom -- also space to store his extra food, etc. because I'm frugal and like to buy in bulk. - I want to put in a doggie door so he can come and go to the backyard without waiting for us. - And I'm planning for his multiple beds again. He really likes being where we are....See MoreBernese Mountain Dogs? Anyone ever have one?
Comments (5)Don't own one personally (a bit large for my accommodations :-)) but know two Bernies quite well :-) They are big, sweet, good temperated, lovable and immensely trainable dogs. Great around kids. Depending on temperament and breeding, they can be much more of a lap dog than a working dog and that herding instinct is sometimes almost nonexistent. But they do need some room and routine daily exercise....See Morewantoretire_did
