What makes you happy?

I've just been appreciating my nice summer. I'm happy doing needlepoint in the back yard with my dogs, working in my garden, picking apples from my trees and baking pies with them, and spending time with my family. These things make me ridiculously happy.

Natal we had a lovely day today and I was wandering around the garden thinking about how much I was going to enjoy taking the flowers in during the spring and summer. It's a new yard to us, and honestly more than I can handle, but for one summer I'm going to live like the fancy people and have fresh flowers all over the house every day :) It's been pretty mild here and the yard is full of lovely evergreens and several types of wonderful rosemary. Such deep lush scents. I've started doing little winter floral arrangements with the herbs and evergreens. All for free :) Then I just sneek in simple stuff like babys breath or a few flowers from the store among the beautiful herbs. I love fresh flowers and this silly house seems to ask for them so I'm having a great deal of fun being creative. So that's my personal little pleasure lately, but on a regular basis I thank god for every morning my son gets up healthy and goes to bed the same. It's been such a long road for him. Seeing his life become "normal" since we've moved is heaven. he's blossomed so much, and now he gets to go to school with other "normal" kids :) He's so happy about it and wants to go every day, morning and night heh heh And watching him run to the gate with his silly little thomas lunch box, full of food he will never eat (he's had the same snacks in it for two weeks and does not eat them, but wanted a lunch box like the other big kids), his happiness makes me smile. He's sick today for the first time this winter. It's a simple pleasure, but we really enjoyed the little vacation from illness. My kitty just told me to mention how much I love his purr....we've been together (kitty and I) since before DH and DS and when he crawls into bed and tries to sleep on my head, it reminds me of simpler times, which also makes me smile :)

Haven't read this post yet, glad I did...It makes ME happy! Other things for today, second day of waking up pain free and basking in the wonderfully funny dreams I'd had. DH actually left the seat down in the master bath. Going to bake banana bread, baked ziti, and a whole host of things so we've got them packed nicely in the freezer. I'm SUPER busy at work and need to be able to have dinner ready to go when I get home two hours later than usual... Anticipating my visit with DS tomorrow morning, then an afternoon spent scrapbooking with a good friend. The fur-kids. Granddog Ruphus spent the night and he & Aurora do not have off buttons. Seeing them frolic, with the others joining in (even the cats) is so much fun.

Renofan, you turned your bathroom from dreary to pretty. Good job! Lynn, I really like all the mahogany in there -- looks great! Brutuses, oh my, that bathroom is just lovely! I love the tile and the vanity. I am eager to see pics of the rest of your house. Are you living in it now? The tan walls and ceiling and crown moulding are just sumptious. Johnmari, you didn't show a before and after I don't think, but your house has loads of curb appeal. Bungalowhouse, oh my yes the new draperies look a lot better. Your bathroom also is a huge improvement, and really, really nice. That's my kind of decorating. Ingrid, don't sell yourself short. Your dining room is one of the prettier ones I've ever seen. It's very inviting. I'd be thrilled if mine looked that good. Mimi, I agree, the new mantel is much better. Paintchips, I love the lamp! Wish I could see the rest of it. Bonnie, that's a truly beautiful bedroom and the paint color looks great. Jesemy, love the wainscoting. It looks very beautiful. I have thought a lot about doing mine, and you inspire me. How did you figure out the math? Cooperbailey, what a lovely job you did on your porch! Makes me wish I had one. Moonkat, I just love your door, and the tile job you did in front of it too. I'm sorry you had such a tough time with it, but now you know it's all structurally sound and nobody got hurt. I've looked on CL for a new front door and never saw one that cute. Hoyamom, your new chandy is breathtaking! Hope I didn't miss anybody -- I'm happy for all you talented people and your wonderful accomplishments. I forgot, I guess my best decorating thing was getting my sofa, chair, and fainting couch rebuilt and re-upholstered. I think they're going to look a lot better sitting on a new maple floor, though. :-) I guess I'll count that for this year.

We may have just had two more inches of snow, and three feet on the ground, but it's spring and summer indoors. I haven't named it yet, but this is a baby pomegranate tree, about six weeks old. It's in a 2 1/2 pot, receiving sunlight at the window and artificial light from sunset to bedtime and my wakeup time until the sun strikes it. It's just sprouted from a pomegranate seed from a pomegranate from the grocery store for sheer fun and I have no expectations for it. The Ageratum That Will Not Die. Fed organically (20%) and synthetically, it just keeps blooming more nicely as the winter wears on. A "struggling" tropical hibiscus started in...November, I think? Named "Brandy." That's her individual name, not the cultivar. She was struggling a bit, but has recovered recently with keeping the soil moist (there's some cyanobacteria mats on the soil right now), and feeding a lot more than I normally would in February since she's under lights 18 hours a day.

Being retired and being able to work the crossword and Sudoku puzzles while sitting on the back porch every morning; at least til it gets too cold.
Being able to take the dogs to the park or for a walk around the block at my leisure.
Being able to take a nap during the day when I'm tired.
Being able to work in the flowerbeds most days.

I love being retired. I'm extremely happy about it.

Other than my family & friends, scrapbooking makes me happy. It's something I really enjoy, my mind craves the creative aspect of it and I rarely get to do it anymore.

Sunshine and the cats running through the house chasing each other. Also having the doors and windows open, I love fresh air.

Spending a morning yard saling and buying more junk that I don't need....ditto on plant sales and more plants that I really don't need.

I love to watch my horses when they come galloping up in the evening when it is time to feed them and pen them up for the night.

Sleeping with a cat or cats.

Taking a nap in the hammock.

Working in the yard and potting up plants.

Taking a day trip and traveling back roads.

I love staying home, but seldom get a day that I don't have to leave for some reason. I live so far from everything, that once I leave and come home, the day is pretty well shot.

had fun yesterday at the youngest grand's first bday, but was glad to have out of towners (dd1 and family, and dog) leave and have peace and quiet, lol...

Right now a soft, long-lasting rain would make me ecstatic. It is very dry, and our soil is sandy, so watering is a real job, and very expensive. Last time we had a rain like I want, I just sat out on the deck and got soaked.....it was lovely!

Rain after a too long dry spell. I know it makes me happy, cause it has just started to rain here and we really need it. I am feeling happy!

Company makes me happy

The granddog makes me happy.

Flowers make me happy.

Springtime mornings when there is no sound but the singing of birds makes me happy.

In a Canadian winter - house.

Food.

Water - I have to haul what I drink and for some cooking.

Health.

Family.

Friends.

Prosperity.

Car.

Good fortune in living in a prosperous land where we know a large measure of freedom and democracy.

Currently - I have them.

How great it would be if everyone enjoyed such good fortune.

Being able to have all three of my kids together at any give moment....

Getting to see my son on the weekends when he gets to come home from the center...

Seeing my older daughter stand up for what she thinks is right, no matter how hard it is...

Hearing Carlie laugh that little laugh that comes from her toes and she just can't control it. LOVE IT...

When Taylor is talkative and not isolating... it is the best.

Having my husband walk through the door each night... I love that man with all my heart.

My newest love is sewing.

Other things that make me happy:
-my husband and children (except oldest teenager these days!)
-my job as a preschool teacher
-going to coffee with my sisters
-family dinners at my parents' house
-reading creative blogs on the computer
-listening to old jazz

Happiness to me is being in good health with lots of energy. No need for medication except for 1 pill of daily vitamins.

I have good days and bad days when it comes to energy. On good days, I am happy even when washing the dishes or mopping the floor!

going for a bike ride on a cool day, with no wind, or the wind at my back.

Yup, that one works for me.

Yep, Seeing Harry pictures makes me happy.
Time to be in my house to dawdle and tweak is my utmost pleasure. If visitors are there too, it's okay with me! If I sit down, Miss Posie comes to sit with me and that brings a smile. Time in front of the piano or the sewing machine is ALWAYS treasured.

I just love being alive and able to enjoy everything, whether it's a cup of coffee or a walk in the park or snuggling witrh my sweetie DH.

Like so many have said, the simple things in life, a warm cup of coffee, sitting outside in the morning with a good book....

The thing that brings an big smile on my face and lightness to my heart ~ my new grandson smiling at me when he sees me. I just melt. In fact just thinking about him makes me happy!

Reading the Bible and sipping hot coffee in the mornings
Thinking of the twins my DDIL is carrying and will be delivered in Sept. sometime.

Reading out in our front courtyard. From there I can watch hummingbirds flit around my Hibiscus (sometimes landing on the book I'm reading), absorb uplifting vitamin D and keep an eye on the neighborhood, all while reading a good book.

Oh, and of course an ice cold beer in a frosted glass with lime and salt on the rim to keep me nourished. :-)
