Do you ever lose your computer info or passwords?

Here is what I did when I first got on the web with webtv, then my PC.

I keep a 3 x 5 file box on my computer desk.

It has all my favorite websites on 3x5 cards with indexes in alphabetical order.

I list the website name

the URL address

My user name

my password

The date I joined and the email address I used.

Any other useful information about the site.

This is how I found some of my favorite websites when my PC crashed.

I told a friend of mine about my system and and she had never thought of it, I though I would share it with you too.

I keep everything in one file. Every time I add something new, I email it to myself at my Yahoo address. Have the info at my fingertips no matter what computer I'm on.

Thank you Owbist, that is very interesting. I looked at the demo but really don't understand what would be required. Followed some links but it appears you need some sort of MS server. I wish they had a number you could call to talk to someone about it. It would be perfect if it wasn't too complicated. I have Office 2007 on one machine and 2003 on the other. The program I use uses Access for the data base. I wonder if that can be shared? Thank you for thinking of me. This world is getting too complicated... Jane

There's another thread here that talks about Google Docs vs Open Office. I think your situation is one where Google Docs might be a good choice because it allows you both to work on the docs even though you're in separate places. If you're looking for ways to remotely access a computer, I've had good results using different versions of VNC. I think the last one I used was UltraVNC. There are some free conferencing programs. Here is a wikipedia article with a chart comparing some conferencing products (some free). One they didn't have listed is Yugma.

Thanks for the info Bumble. I may have to try that. I don't need a primer, but do get circles so the brightening might help. Shee - I actually have good skin but I am much older than you. My skin is getting drier and I have some slight discolorations I'm sure from the sun (I do wear sunscreen religiously now), and also I think a mixture of BC pills and sun. I've never had problems with acne, so no scarring. I'm just wondering though - have you used any retin-a products? The gal who does my hair is the one (and another gal in the salon) who recommended the products I have been trying. She is 25ish and has a few dark spots left from blemishes. So she says, I've never actually noticed them and she has been using the cleanser I got and the retin-a products (cleanser has alpha and beta hydroxy) and she said it has greatly improved her skin. My mineral make-up stays. Again though my skin is on the dry side, so that probably makes a difference. I'm on a mission to find a new one though because the one I've been using has gone out of business! I tried to find one that didn't use some of the ingredients that were irritating to some (I have sensitive skin). Perfectly matched my skin and I dread looking for a new brand. Another good thing though is how long the mineral make-up lasts. I'm with Jen on the less on my face. I do agree with Bumble about more products. I think it is important to work towards getting your skin in the best condition possible and then you won't need as much make-up. I can't stand the feeling of alot of stuff on my face. I don't wear colored shadows - just a lighter color (base), then a deep taupe and at times add a deep grey to outer corners. I like a soft, blended eyeliner. I like foundation/blush, etc. to look natural and then a sheer, bright lip. Looks best on me. I'm not going to be able to continue with this retin-A stuff - going to check and see if there is a formula with less percentage of retin-A or try the Replenish (Replenix?) that someone mentioned here. tina

Very helpful info rina and edenchild! Thanks for starting this thread Lynn Nevins! So there is a lot of choice when looking for something to cover the drainage holes. I've got landscape fabric lying around, and I am happy to find a use for the leftover pieces. I like all of the choices mentioned here. I think I will try a few different ones and see what I think of them. I will definitely visit the dollar store and pick up some coffee filters. You guys are awesome!

I like the basic idea, but are you sure you really want all of your logins and passwords so readily available to anyone? I don't live in fear nor am I paranoid, but in the event of a break-in I don't want the bad guys to have my info for on-line banking, Paypal, etc.

I have all of my goodies in a 3x5" spiral notebook, right next to my computer - otherwise, due to a bad case of C.R.S. disease, I'd be up the proverbial creek!

I bought my first PC in 1996 and the advice my sis gave me was get a note book and keep it by the PC to make notes. I still have that somewhere.

I don't do banking on the internet, and, though I've considered dealing in stocks on the internet (primarily to obtain low-cost trades) ... I haven't yet set up an account. That's a bigger deal than that of only one bank account.

I heard on the radio that one of the major reasons that there are so many start-up companies in Israel is that their young people are taught to be curious, and when in the army can question the system, plus are ready to carry ideas forward even though there are risks.

That one Israeli company has developed a system to foil identity thieves, offered it to many agencies, including PayPal, and when PayPal tested them out, found that they were as efficient or more so than their checkers.

Joann - we think alike. I use index files for just about everything. I have one on my desk for telephone and address information on white 3x 5 cards. Anyone who is on my Christmas mailing list is on a green index card so it's easy to find. The advantage over using a phone books is that if someone moves or changes phone numbers you don't have to cross out the old info - you can just fill out another card and keep it neat.

I have another small index box near the computer for all the passwords for my various online accounts. It's not out in the open where anyone can access it but it's hidden near by.

We also use an index box that holds 5x8 cards for recipes.

FLASH DRIVEs! Everything and I mean everything on my puter is backed up on a few flash drives. They are so reasonable priced and I just keep getting more with more
Gig capacity. Documents with all pass words and user names are on a keychain flash drive, encrypted in an obscure font program that very few people have and with me 99.9% of the time. The font program is on another flash drive that is locked in my jewel box with the rest of them. I also put a set of flash drives backup of the important info in my safe deposit box.

I don't know a thing about flash drives, tell me more. Do they work with all pc's, how much do they cost & how do you use them?

Lil, I've heard that flash drives aren't for storage, just for transporting data.
I don't know why that would be, but that's what I've heard....

Joann, a flash drive is a little stick thing that goes into your USB port and you transfer your data there. You can buy 1, 2 gig etc. When you're done transferring the data, just pull it out of your USB port and put it in your desk or somewhere for safekeeping.

They are just another type of storage medium. Rather than a CD disc or the old floppies you use these in a usb port and transfer your info onto it the same way. They are so small they can be carried in a pocket or on a keychain so they are great for portability.
I get them all over but recently I ordered several of the 4G and a few 8G on sale at Radioshack.com. I saved a load because they have all kinds of back to school specials. You can pick them up every where these days. I've used the San Disk and Gigaware brands because they work and are simple and plain. I don't need team logos or other advertising on mine since it means paying more. LOL
