We've not enjoyed the show on tv so much in ages, made me think once again how great it'd be to have more entertaining and little less competition, to bring best of Idols and have some extra fun for everyone. No matter, all are winners, except me and especially my daughter, will be listening to Katherine and my younger daughter to Chris (her forever Idol). I think Taylor got the votes for being a friendly country guy -if the show was about congeniality he'd get my votes, he had fun and made us join in the fun, appearing more self-confident- a few years older helps, even if he was at times comical with his dances-we can all use more fun. It reminded us of the times when the "She Bangs" guy was picked as the winner on line, lol. We're fine with the fact Katherine took the 2nd place- it's almost or as grand as the top. I've watched both episodes, and will continue to watch the rest of the 7-episode series (Lisa Kudrow, one of the exec producers of the show, will be this week's episode), but I have mixed feelings. As an avid genealogist, I think the series is great in that it shows folks how fascinating genealogy can be -- how it can help you to learn more about yourself by learning about those who came before you. On the other hand, I think it does a bit of a disservice by making it appear that it's so easy to find information to go back so many generations. Sarah Jessica Parker and Emmitt Smith both have a lot of money, and can afford to just jump on a plane to head off to a totally different area of our country, not to mention another country altogether; when the vast majority of us simply don't have that option. Another sticking point is that Sarah Jessica Parker and Emmitt Smith (and the other five celebs to follow in the coming weeks) have the benefit of several professional genealogists and archivists searching for information long before they arrive in town. The information is simply handed to them. They aren't spending hours upon hours looking at rolls of microfilmed records, etc. I have a World Deluxe membership to Ancestry.com. I have access to every record they have. Plus, I'm an arbitrator for submissions to Ancestry.com - both from the World Archives Project as well as corrections/suggestions that folks submit regarding records that are already online. Yet I continually hit a total roadblock when it comes to ancestors/family in Pennsylvania, because Pennsylvania has close to nothing available online. I wish it were as easy as the show makes it appear...

I was begining to think I was the only one out there that could handle this type of show. Recently there's been so many twist and turns I'm having a very hard time figuring out if Hannibal is acting on his own or not. He seems to be using his patients to do alot of killing as well. I doubt it will return next season so I'm hoping the last episodes that we have dvr'd will solve things for us.

If anyone is interested in seeing the show, they're running all episodes to date on Sunday evening on TVLand. GWLake, I agree that, as usual, the continuing episodes aren't as good as the first couple, and it's not the kind of show that Sex and the City was (though I wasn't a fan of that show). I don't think her husband was controlling, however. More absent and untrustworthy (gambling addict, then philanderer). I don't see that her friends control her either. Yes, she's trying to fit in, but she interferes with them just as much or more as they do her. It's really more that with this group there's an instant, filters off, intimacy that's more characteristic of people that age. Interesting question about whether one would want to try to pass for younger. I had to go to a big meeting on my birthday and everyone who said Happy Birthday asked if it was my 29th. Everyone. It was hysterical. But, of course, the point is there's no way I could pass for 29. I could probably pass for mid-30's if I were able to remember which things I wasn't supposed to be able to remember. I have a genetically youngish complexion and my hands and neck aren't bad. People generally think I'm substantially younger than I am based on looks. But would I want to live a lie? Never! Would I do it if it were the only way I could get a decent job in my field? I don't know at what point of desperation I'd be willing to throw my scruples to the wind, but everyone has one. Where it involves legal papers and signing oaths, I probably couldn't go. I wouldn't want to do anything illegal. It used to be that using a false name wasn't illegal so long as one didn't do it for purposes of fraud. I imagine that the would be the same with a false age, too. Since age discrimination is illegal, adjusting the age to meet expectations only tilts it back in favor of what it should have been to begin with. But I think that's all illegal nowadays because of the post-911 freedoms eliminations, and even if it isn't, employment applications often have avowals of truth, which would make it fraud. Plus, I don't think in the data age that you can actually get away with it. Big employers have simple background checks that would find that her stated year of graduation wasn't correct. Would I continue it to get something going with a guy I really liked? That's harder and easier. It would be so tempting, but who wants a relationship based on a lie. I don't think I could. Especially because a 26-year-old guy dating a 26-year-old girl, even if he isn't thinking actively about it (because guys rarely do) has to have lingering in his subconscious that the girl he's wild about is a potential mate and mother. When I was that age, one of my friends married a 40-year-old woman, but he knew exactly who she was when they met, and there were a lot of issues that wouldn't have been there with a woman his own age. Every generation criticizes the sexual mores of their children, including back in history when they criticized them for being mealy-mouthed prudes. Thanks for the great questions. :)
