Thanks again everyone. I successfully cooked six hard boiled eggs this morning !! I hear the applause. smile. I brought them to a boil and then simmered for 15 min. I will have to experiment a little more with bringing the heat down from the boil. I lowered it immediately to 3 and of course it quit boiling so I had to go back to 9 and bring it down two levels at a time...I will experiment next time to make that easier. Pllog I never heard of steaming until reading about it here (where have I been? not to the cooking forum for a while :-) ) and I definetly want to try that. And, I looked at Henrietta and I must say that I really like that...I have never owned an electric egg cooker but that is sure cute. Might have to spring for one. And, Cheril thanks for letting me know about the Williams Sonoma item. I have seen those before and will keep it in mind. I think once I do this a couple times, I will have the exact schedule...or I will get Henrietta. So cute. Thanks for all the fun reading. You guys are great.

Teresa, I know you asked for ways to microwave an egg, Out of the shell. So this is probably not of any help to you. But I thought I'd add it anyway. I, too, like my eggs with a soft, even runny, yolk. But boiled. I have a handy lttle egg cooker that I got in Walmart, several years ago. It is plastic of some sort, egg shaped. You fill the bottom with water to a certain level (marked), put in the aluminum insert, Stand one to four eggs on it, put the top half of the 'egg' on, And mmicrowave, on high, For the number of minutes it says for the degree of doneness you want. Let it stand for a bit, and remove eggs to cold water. When slightly cooled to touch, Peel & eat. It may take a bit of experimenting with different egg sizes, And different microwaves, But after that, A perfetly done (boiled) egg, Perfect for dipping, Every time! Was Fori's question answered satisfactorily, as I don't want to be contributing more to hijacking this thread? If this should be taken to another thread, say the word. Annie, your question is interesting, and I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if my son has outgrown the egg allergy, which we know beyond a doubt that he had (we don't do potato salad with hard boiled eggs or anything like that). But he still tests very positive and we don't want to find out the hard way, so we just do what we've been doing that we know he doesn't react to - use small amounts in baked goods, but no eggs otherwise - no merigue or any recipes with high concentration of eggs. A while back, I posted a question about the Cook's Illustrated version of mac & cheese, which calls for stirring in 2 eggs after the pasta has been cooked & drained. I was wondering if those eggs get sufficiently "cooked" - and the response seemed to be yes. That recipe contradicts what I have otherwise felt comfortable doing with eggs regarding my son's allergy, but we tried it & he hasn't had a reaction. Some of the concern is that eggs pose a potentially anaphalactic reaction, as with nuts & shellfish, which he is also allergic to, but can't have the littlest bit of those. I'm like you in that I have no food allergies. I eat & love just about anything (although oddly, the last few months, I have developed what seemed to be random hives, but may be linked to appearing a couple hours after I have ingested nuts - I hope it's not that). Guess people just have to do what they think is best for themselves and their family members & others need to respect it.

First off, there is no such thing as a dumb question, except the ones that go unasked... I have a microwave egg cooker that produces pretty decent hard 'boiled' eggs... I originally bought it to make soft boiled eggs but, after umpteen years, I'm still working on getting the timing right... lol I'm sure it will work for just the whites... All I do is rinse them out, leave the little droplets of water in it/them, add the egg, pierce the yoke with a toothpick a couple of times, and microwave on full power for 40 seconds for one and 50 seconds for two... It's a little tricky for soft 'boiled' eggs because they don't look cooked when you first take them out of the microwave ( they have to sit for a few seconds ) so you cook them a bit longer and end up with hard boiled eggs... LOL For just the white part I would think it would take about 30 seconds for one... You probably could get away with using any small hard plastic container that has a tight fitting lid with a hole in it... I wouldn't try cooking more that one white at a time though, you might end up with rubber... LOL Rita
