Did You and Your Spouse 'Meet Cute'?

DH and I did, but not movie 'cute'.

DH asked me for a date when we were taking a night school class together at Northwestern. I got his name wrong, but he got my address right and showed up at our home to pick me up. (This was so long ago, peeps, that many young adult women lived at home.)

He asked my mother, "Didn't the (so-and-so's) live across the street years ago?" He was referring to where my FBF had lived when we were three and four years old. Turned out that his family often visited there. DH and I had met back then, but neither remembered the other, little girls and little boys mixing like oil and water. DH's mother remembered meeting my mother and me. FBF's mom wondered if she was entitled to a matchmaker's fee. LOL

How long did you date your DH before you married? (One year in our case.)

My ex (we divorced after 12 years of marriage) and I met kinda cute/strange. My dad was in the hospital with a broken back and my mom had gone to see him. She left my brothers and I at home (older brother was 17, I was 15, little brother was 13). We got bored and wrote some scripts and began making crank phone calls. Older brother suggested we call my oldest brother (24 and married), and it was my turn. So 17 year old brother called (I thought) oldest brother and when someone answered I gave the speech I had written. I only remember now that part of it was that the special of the week was that we could castrate his aardvark for only $17.50. Person on the other end said, "What?!?". I realized it wasn't my brother and asked, "Who is this?". He answered, "Garth". At that time I hadn't heard of Garth Brooks or any other Garth and thought it was the strangest name I had ever heard. I replied, "Garth (like Gosh!), I got the wrong number". I hung up, then thought about it and decided that he had a nice voice, then wrestled with my brother until he gave me the telephone number he had called. I called Garth back and we talked for several hours. The next day his whole family came to our house and dropped him off (while Mom was home) so that we could visit. They went on to his Mom's twin sister's house to visit. Later, when they came to pick him up, he asked if I could come home with them for dinner. His mom said yes, and he carried me to the car. The rest is history. That does sound odd, doesn't it?

amck, all my friends here "dated" Elery right along with me. I posted pictures of our first meeting at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, later pictures of him riding my horse the first time I took him to the farm, more pictures of him driving the backhoe and manure spreader at Dad's direction, LOL. I posted more pictures when he bought me the food processor for my birthday, only about a month after we started dating, I nearly sent that back. There was a whole 'nother thread and set of pictures when he proposed to me the third time. We were on the deck of a restored sailing schooner on Grand Traverse Bay when he talked the captain into letting me steer the boat, then got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone. I was so embarrassed I said yes immediately. I told him I should have said "I hope you can return that ring". He said I should have because then he could have gotten free "sympathy drinks" all night and talked me into it later! My wedding pictures were posted here, we got married outside at a local inn and no one was there except us, my kids and grandkids, my parents and my boss who is also one of my best friends. last fall there were pictures of our "reception", some of the members here attended that too. It's been a forum romance/wedding/marriage all the way through, and you could probably still find some of the threads on the gallery. And yes, he's a great guy and I'm dam*ed lucky to have found him. It only took me 52 years to find a man who truly believes that I am Empress of the Universe. I think I'll keep him. Annie

I'm really sorry about your situation. Only you know who your DH is and can predict how he might handle you confronting him. Lawyering up wouldn't be my first act if I felt like we could work it out alone. Paying Lawyers is very expensive. If you decide to leave the marriage and feel like he wants what is best for his children, I would bypass that as a first resort. You can research laws yourself. You need to know how much money you have, where it's kept and how to access it immediately. If you have a hunch he would really leave his family destitute, you need to act on that, clearly. But if you think you both can be rational, bringing up $$ issues first may take the focus off your relationship. You need to decide if your marriage is salvageable and if you want to salvage it. Spend $$ on couple therapy. Good luck. You know who he really is. Make decisions based on that.

My husband, 2-year old daughter, and I, were sitting behind this guy at a religious meeting, so after the final prayer, I introduced myself and welcomed him. He was with some friends of ours and it turned out that he had just met them the week before. He had been traveling with his wife and small daughter to move to another state, when a drunk driver hit them head on in the desert fog. His truck was totalled. The baby was in a car seat and was fine. His wife suffered many serious injuries and was taken to our local hospital. That's how he came to meet my friend, who had been called when people of our same religion had requested help at the hospital. Well, anyway....he was thin and stressed and trying to figure out what to do. There was no instant connection--no attraction. I invited him to dinner with us, but he declined. As it worked out eventually, the wife was air-lifted to a hospital in the city where her parents lived, where my (DH) was moving. Because of the wreck, the ensuing lawsuit against the drunken woman who had just chalked up her 4th accident while DUI, and both vehicles totalled, DH lost the job transfer to the new state. A few months later, he was back at my meeting. He had to return to fight the legal battle in person, so got a job in my town. His wife, on finding out that she was getting a nice sum as a settlement for her injuries, decided to stay with her parents, keep their daughter, and divorce him. Within another year or so, I found myself divorced about the same time his divorce was finalizing. I moved into a room for rent as a temporary measure while saving to move to California. He was renting another room in the same house. Somehow...some way.....without ANY prior notice of each other in the preceding 2 years, we became friends. A few months later.....we both moved out of the house...and into our own place as husband and wife! One of the things we both thought was funny as we began dating, was finding out that he thought I was nice to show a concern for him but he never gave me another thought. I felt bad for his situation, but he seemed to have no real personality. Until we started to really talk while living with the family that owned the house, neither had much opinion of the other. Red

Well i dont know as to how many i shud be posting...but ours was an arrange marriage and have been married for 3 yrs. I have really tried to change him by talking to him but there r things that makes life difficult. His eating habbits are our of control. He is too lazy to excercise or walk. He is so moody that i wil never come to know wht he really wants from me or from life. His life is just office and laptop. Rest he is least bothered. I have made a different routine fro myself so that i dont frustrate my self and him. On weekends we will definately talk something that wil upset him so much that both the days there will be a dead silence in the house. He is affetced a lot by the fact that I and his parenst dont get along so well. He is too logical and wants me to always talk with a reason. I shud be talking to him in a certain manner that wud please him and if i dont then he is upset. I am always worried abt his health. His laziness and boringness botheres me a lot. He loves to keep silent and only talk when he has to. He wants me to dress uo in a certain manner where nothing shud be visible. I get grossed out by a lot of his habbits . Well i guess i can go on forever. Amazingly enuf i guess I wil go on like this.Coz i know he is not the type to change for me .Still never concedered separation ...wondering shud i .

My Sophomore year in high school, DH Mark (back then, a longtime neighbor) yelled across the quad for everyone to hear "Hey Powell, if we got married, you'd only have to change two letters in your last name!" I jokingly yelled back "Hey Newell, let's do it!"

We didn't start dating because of his quad announcement, we started dating because a friend of mine was having a party that summer. She had a crush on Mark, I had a crush on her ex-boyfriend "K". She worked out a deal, if I invited Mark to the party for her, she would see to it that "K" would be my date for the party. "K" ignored me the moment we walked through the door so Mark took pity on me (he knew this guy well, they used to sing in a trio together) and kept me company the whole night.

When I got home at midnight (my curfew), there was Mark sitting on my front porch. "K" pulled into my driveway, saw Mark, reached passed me to open my door so I could get out (quite the gentleman he was ... not) and sped off. Mark and I talked into the wee hours until my step-dad started flicking the porch light on and off. LOL

That was summer of '69. DH and I have been together ever since.

Mark, "K" and the gal they sang with are having a 40 year reunion in October. The group was just like Peter, Paul & Mary. Their name was Me, Him & Her. When I later heard Mark sing "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", I knew I was in love. Such a groupie I am. LOL

    Good times.

We really don't remember when we met.

Our fathers were good friends. Both their wives had babies 9 days apart. When the babies were about 4-5 weeks old, they got together to show them off, of course. Put us down on the floor to 'get acquainted' while our parents visited. Interestingly, we didn't see each other again for 17 years, but we must have somehow bonded, because we each felt a really strong sense of recognition--but at that time, didn't have time in our lives to do anything about it. When we were 21, we bumped into each other again, and that time neither of us let any grass grow under our feet. We were dating within the week, 'going steady' within 3 weeks. Engaged before the end of a year. That was 36 years ago. We still feel as if we are somehow cosmically connected. I can only guess that it was something similar to when a baby bird imprints with the first being it sees after it hatches--LOL!

The ex and I met kinda cute. I was working as a maintenance scheduler in the Air Force over in Germany. We were doing massive records/maintenance checks to get our planes ready to go Turkey for a month. They had just made all the engine and hydraulic macs cross train back into crew chiefs. Way back when, the crew chiefs did everything. Then the A.F. decided to make specific jobs for some parts of the aircraft. None of the hydraulic and engine machanics liked the new idea. So, here comes the ex (hydraulic mac) into my office to do a records check on his jet. He looked like he was 16, but insisted he was 27 or so. I told him he was lying and carded him. LOL! My supervisor was egging it on, asking him personal questions (we had a tiny office).

For some reason I thought he had the prettiest smile and was quiet and sweet. (Bwahhhhhhaaa!). So, we go to Turkey and I asked one of my guy friends about him. John made him walk up the stairs one day when I was working to ask me out. Our first date was a USO Randy Travis concert on base.

On another note, I went back to my old base this summer to see what had become of it. I knew they made it into an airport and thought they'd use the old barracks and family housing for housing for German citizens. They had just spent millions of dollars renovating the family housing a couple years before they shut the base down. I came back and watched a Youtube video someone had made of what Hahn looks like now. They show the inside of the old family housing. I babysat John's kids for him and his wife a couple times and remember the gated areas they show that his kids kept their bicycles and pool stuff in. It was kinda sad to see those buildings totally unused and falling down. I also spent a lot of holidays with an older couple and their kids, we schedulers used to go over there for our holiday meals.

The link below reminds me of that special on history channel(I think it was the history channel) of what life would be like after humans are gone from the planet.

Here is a link that might be useful: Hahn now

I had a huge crush on a guy named Michael. My best friend, Karen, and I decided to drive to Dallas (from Nacogdoches where we were all going to college) to see a DCI (Drum and Bugle Corps) show. Karen invited Michael to go with us and we were meeting more of our marching band friends in Dallas. The day we left Karen told me that Michael invited someone else to go with us... someone named Tracy. I was devastated, thinking Tracy was a girl. When I heard it was a guy I was releaved.

We had a great time on the trip. After the trip and after dropping the guys off, Karen told me she had a new crush. Again, I was devastated. I knew it had to be Michael, who else would it be? She emphatically said "NO!" It was Tracy. I was releaved. This Tracy person barely even existed for me on this trip because I was so in "love" with Michael.

Karen and Tracy started dating but Michael never really saw me as more than a chunky (I had a three year chunky period in college) girl and I'm pretty sure he was holding out for a bombshell. During the 7 months that Karen and Tracy dated, he and I became friends because we had similar class schedules. We would meet at the University Center between classes and have coffee. He was so funny, and so easy to talk to and spend time with. There was never any flirting or anything, we just became really good friends. He was still crazy about Karen and I was still crazy about Michael (who still never gave me much of a chance).

Karen broke up with Tracy and it broke his heart, so I decided I would fix him up with one of my other friends. Then out of the blue I decided, that I didn't want to fix him up because he was my friend outside of my "circle" and I kind of wanted to keep that to myself. I wasn't sure why, but that was my reasoning. One month later I figured it out. Tracy and I started dating and were married one year later. That was 23 years ago!

Boy, that was a long story. But, what a happy ending! Oh, one more thing... At our wedding, Karen was my Maid of Honor and Michael was the Best Man. We are all great friends to this day!

My DH of almost 55 years met when I was 12, almost 12....We were in the hospital at the same time....He had been burned in an explosion and in one room and I had shattered my femur and was in the room next door. I was in traction and the nurses would tell him to go visit that little girl, he was 18 at the time and had just graduated from high school...I was in the hospital for months and then in a body cast for another 6 months after I was sent home....When I got home, he used to come and visit and bring all his friends...I went back to school and he went into the service..We wrote and every leave, we were together and after I graduated from high school we were married.....I still tease him about robbing the cradle..(But somehow, I almost caught up with him)...

azzelea -- Your 'babies together' story reminded me of the baby boy *I* shared a crib with when we were infants. Our mothers met as roommates in the maternity ward and remained friendly. When we were older, this boy would turn up from time to time, kind of checking me out. At our engagement party he thought it was very funny to tell my future DH, "I slept with her first." Ha. Ha. DH is still hot about that crack!

THAT reminds me of another moment to remember at the same party. A long-time friend of my family (and long-time big drinker and womanizer) sat down to charm one of the ladies at the party. He bragged about how he'd known me all my life, and how pretty I'd grown up to be...and how he thought I could have done better. He was talking to my future MIL.

    I love these stories!! :)

DH moved in next door to me July 5 1989. I was 13 and he was 15. As soon as I saw him I thought he was the cutest boy ever! Haha! Within a few days we were talking. July 27th he asked me to be his girlfriend. On my 18th birthday he asked me to marry him and we were married November 26th 1993. :) I know that he is my soul mate.

no personal story to share, but a guy told me his own very touching one:

He was a small-town boy whose parents had both died.

Luckily, the hairdresser who had done his mom's hair for many years took him under her wing.

The very week he returned home after 2 tours in Viet Nam, he totalled a friend's motorcycle & had some pretty severe injuries (I forget exactly what he said).

Once he was out of the hospital, he still had to have care, so the hairdresser put him into her spare bedroom & enlisted her 16-year-old daughter, home from school for the summer, to take care of him during the day.

He & she talked & played chess & spent the whole summer together, & the rest, as they say, is history.

March 1942, High School Senior Class trip. On the return trip home we stopped in Richmond for lunch and we were left on our own to find a place to eat, and be back at the bus at a certain time. Two friends and I were waiting for the light to change and wondering about where to go. None of us knew anything about Richmond. A voice behind us said "Hey, we will show you a good place." We turned to look and there were two GIs standing there. We all giggled and agreed to let them guide us to a nice place.

Actually, they didn't know any thing about Richmond either; they were on a day-leave from Langley Field. Anyhow, we ended up in a small restaurant where we had hamburgers and Cokes and talked, and talked, and talked some more. We all exchanged addresses with each other. One gave me a small key that he happened to have, and I gave him a small one that I happened to have.

The meeting may not have been so cute, and I wish I could include the whole story but space doesn't permit, so I'll just say that on June 21st, 1944, I married the CUTEST GI in the whole US Army Air Force! Unknowingly, I guess we had exchanged the keys to our hearts that day.

Thirty-eight years and two children later, cancer took him.

Oh Goodness, I was such a wench!

I met (nabbed and decided to marry) my DH at the NCO Club at Dover AFB, DE.

Occasionally the Club would host "Oldies Music" night. My gal-pals and I rarely missed these nights. We'd go over about 9:30 p.m. so weÂd be there before the swing shift cops got off duty about 11:15. Once they arrived, things could get lively.

On this particular night, IÂd gone over early with two of my male buds, Jeff and Kelly. The place was packed. A large group of cops started pulling tables up so they could all sit together. They were next to the table where The Buds and I were. The evening progressed; every one was dancing, laughing, drinking, and having fun.

A gorgeous bigger guy was giving one of his cohorts a hard time. He was sitting directly behind me; I could hear their conversation. I leaned back on my chair and "bumped" into his. I told him if he felt the need to challenge someone, he should choose a person that could give as good as they get.

He twirled his chair around next to mine, and said "Oh yeah?" with his blue eyes twinkling. "Yeah!" He asked if I was "with" either of the two guys I was sitting with. "No."

Jeff had wandered off, entranced by some blonde no doubt. After a while Kelly decided we should go back to the dorm. (Gals had ½ of the 3rd floor; the other 2 ½ floors were for the guys.) He and I never "dated," but we hung out a lot and he usually "checked up" on me about closing time. He also liked to play "love-life monitor." LOL

I told him to go on; I'd be fine. Kelly gives the cop a "look" and says, "Do you really think you should stay here with him?" Future DH told him to run along; he could get me home safe and sound.

He didÂbut I do believe he was a bit worse for wear after the experience.

That was Aug. 29, 1989Âwe remained a steady item from that day through our separate TDYs (often for 4-6 months at a clip) and my retraining and PCS move to England. We married in 1992, nearly three years after IÂd decided he was "the one." I didnÂt share this info with him at the time. He was smart; I knew heÂd eventually figure it out.

Kelly and I are still friends. I think he still "disapproves" of my choice. The other cop DH was "picking on" is still a one of DH's best friends. He visits us every chance he gets.

There are times I could wallop the man; but I'm still glad I picked him!

We met on a blind date. We agreed to it, though both of us hated blind dates, just to get our friends off our backs. We dated every day for 6 weeks starting Easter weekend. We did a mutual marriage proposal. We asked each other at the same time.

He had to come out to CA for a job and I had to work till end of summer on a school contract. We only saw each other once all summer during a 4th of July get together. He flew in for the wedding and we flew back out to CA right after the ceremony. He had to be at work the next day. That's why our date is Labor Day, so we would have an extra day to get everything done. It will be 32 years this Sept 4th.

It was kind of weird how hubby and I met.

I had been working with his older brother, and we used to hang out a lot together, nothing too serious, mostly with other friends. One day we all decided to meet at work and go down to the beach.
Well, this kid gets in the back seat of my car, and I asked James "hey, aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?", and he said, "that's not a friend, that's my little brother Joe". What's so weird is, I had met his mom and dad, older brother, sister, even a cousin, and I had never met Joe.
Well, that day at the beach, Joe ended up leaving with a friend of his who also went to the beach that day. (a guy). And I really didn't think too much about it. He hadn't really spoke to me that much.
Well, Monday, when we went back to work, James told me that his brother asked about me, and could he call me sometime. I said sure. I was really surprised. We went out, and I knew then, that he was the one. We never even talked about going steady, or exclusive or whatever, it just happened.
We have been together for 23 years. Married for 17. Took him awhile to ask, but we got there.

My first wife and I met on a trip to Europe; but, that's a whole 'nother story. She died of ovarian cancer when she was 42 leaving me with a 15 year old daughter and boys ages 12, 10, 8, and 3. About 8 months after Marys death a friend asked if I ever thought about remarrying. I replied, "I'm a 41 year old widower with 5 kids, who's going to have me?" She suggested that I keep an open mind. A couple weeks later another friend called and asked if I'd like to go out to see a movie. There was a small group that got together almost every weekend to see a movie. I said sure. There were 5 of us that first weekend. Bigbaby (Sue) lived just a couple blocks from the theatre. We walked her home and then the rest of us went on our seperate ways. Next weekend everyone cancelled at the last minute except for Sue. After the movie I walked her home and she invited me in. She sat me down and gave me this big lecture. She was in her final year of getting her Bachelors degree, very busy, as soon as she graduated she was leaving town, she didn't have time for a serious relationship. Okay, I was just thrilled to have a reason to get out of the house once in a while. Next weekend, the same thing, everyone cancels but Sue. I admit that I'm a slow learner. The next weekend is the county fair. The mutual friend and Sue want to go to the fair but, they need some kids to take along because fairs are really for kids, right? and they want to know if they can take my boys. (Emily is busy that evening) I say sure. Then they realize that I'll have to come along since I have the only vehicle large enough to haul everyone. Once again the mutual friend cancels at literally the last minute. Like we couldn't see this coming?
I need to pause here and explain about my youngest son, Jason. He was always shy and when his Mom died his whole world collapsed. The other kids were all in school so each day it was just the 2 of them. He didn't "take" to new people at all. We get to the fair and I'm shocked to see Jason walking across the parking lot, holding Sues hand, laughing and talking. I'm walking 2 steps behind them with my mouth hanging open! Whose kid is this? Sue fell in love with the kids that day and therefore I got a second look. On our first real date we went to a chinese restaurant. My fortune cookie said. "You and your spouse will be very happy together." We were married 4 months later.

DH and I both worked as Psych Techs at the state hospital in Ca., he was on one unit and I was on the one across the hall and many times we were sent to each other's units when staffing was short.

He told me he had a brother in the Navy and was planning on telling him about me. Meanwhile, his wife ran off with a sailor, called him back and told him where his car was and that she left the baby with one of their friends!

He told me about this one day and said he was divorcing her as he had taken her back a couple of times after she did this and this was the last straw, leaving their baby.

My car had broke down and my DB was taking me to work and I told him about it and he offered to come and look at it. He had been a mechanic in the Air Force so I said okay. He fixed the car and we started dating. The brother was forgotten by this time and I never met him until after we were married.

Was over a year later before we got married, at that time you had to wait a year before the divorce was final. We had set our wedding for New Year's Day, but had to move it to March. His ex kept trying to reconcile and had went to his lawyer, making friends with the secretary and managed to get her to foul paper work up so it didn't get filed properly for several months. This woman was something to behold some of the things she tried, but we finally got married March 14th, his mother's birthday. Figured he would remember our wedding anniversary better if on his Mother's birthday. lol

Our 48th anniversary was last March.

    Best Friend Forever????
My friend and I decided it was time to get away from Bakersfield and go to the beach....Pismo Beach. (If only for five days).
We were both 21 and went bar hopping. At Harry's the bartender gave me a gin gimlet instead of a vodka gimlet. I made a big fuss.
My friend and I decided it was time to head back to our little shack on the beach. (Wave Court)
The next day around noon, my friend and I were walking near the bowling alley when we heard someone ask if he could take us to lunch. It was the bartender from Harry's. Marita and I never turned down free food!
The next day my now DH saw us on the beach and asked if I wanted to drive down to meet his grandmother while he got ready for work. My friend had met some people and said to go for it. While DH was getting ready for work his DGM told me I was too young for him...he is 9 years older than me. I laughed! I told DH what she said and he laughed.
Then he asked me to go up to the lake to meet his parents because it was their wedding anniversary.
My folks came to the beach to camp for their anniversary so they met the bartender. They raised their eyebrows not only because of his age but because of his occupation.
My friend and I left for home and instead of driving the short way, we went to Santa Barbara and visited a friend of her parents. When we did get home my little brother told me that some guy had called four times wondering where I was.
I was offended.....why should FDH care.....it wasn't like we had really dated.
He called again and wanted to know if he could come visit me on his next days off. I thought, why not.....summer romances were fun.
We got engaged on Christmas eve 1961 and got married October 1962.
We are still best friends but I haven't seen Marita since the summer of 1961.
Not really cute but I am glad I met him!

I was working at a bank in the drive-up area. I had a HUGE sign in my window that said "No Checks Issued - Please Use Lobby".

One day my DH pulled in and said "Could I get a Cashier's Check"? (My first thought was he couldn't read...lol). I pointed to the sign and said I didn't issue checks. His reply was...."I'll take you out for a steak dinner if you make me a check". After a moments consideration I said to him...."Who do you want it payable to"? He was so shocked he muttered.....Visa.

I went into the lobby and made his check and when I gave it to him I also gave him my phone number and said "Give me a call".

He called me that Friday and we went out to dinner that night (candlelight, flowers and a table by the fireplace at the restaurant).

We have been married 22 years and I like to tell people that.."My John was a customer and I gave him great service"

I worked at a restaraunt at a ski resort and the ski instructors would come in for lunch and to warm up.I saw this tall, skinny, great looking guy every day (did I mention he looked great in a ski suit?) and we said "hi" but that was about it. One day he was having trouble with the cigarette machine (remember those???) so I walked over, got his money, got his cigs and told him to "kick the habit, not the machine". (And yes, he did quit smoking.) We started dating and 10 months later we were married. I tell everyone he was my ski instructor (he was and a good one too!) Turns out his dad worked in the funeral industry and my dad owned a company that supplied hoses for the oil industry, so our dads worked in caskets and gaskets. Two days before the wedding, there was a news report of a wreck on the corner of: get this, both our last names!! What are the odds. Anyway, we will celebrate 37 years in October.

I was not interested in dating and said the next guy will have to come to my front door because I'm not looking. Dang if he didn't show up at my door.

SO was friends with my next door neighbor that hung out at my house. All of his friends started coming to my house first to see if he was there. That was over 20 years ago.

I was Twinkie's DD's teacher. He came to school for parent/teacher conferences. He was standing in the room when I walked in. He told me later that he had been looking at all my class photos from previous years on the wall and thought, "Nobody gets better looking every year, but this woman does!" (Gotta love that man! LOL)

We "conferenced" and I thought he was the sweetest, most concerned dad and one of the most "real" people that I had ever met. (It didn't hurt that he was 6'3, gorgeous graying hair and blue eyed, either!) We were both married at the time.

Three years later we began seeing each other. He was divorced by then and I SHOULD have been! LOL

We've been "together" 23 years and married for over 21.
    He's a true sweetie!

In my post I was referring to my First Best Friend. Her parents and mine bought houses almost across the street from one another when we were both babies. We were friends from about ages three and four until she died of a brain tumor last year -- even though her family moved to Tennessee when we were teens.

Another part of our mutual connection is that DH and his mother visited this family's ranch in Wyoming the summer before my mom and I did.

When DH and I were in London on our honeymoon, my FBF's folks happened to be there too and we met for a chat.

Last time we saw my FBF, she came out to stay with us for a week while we were on Maui.

    (I miss you, Geenie!)

the first time we met was at a wedding, but neither remembered. the next time was on a mutual friend's boat on lake mead...had a great time but! i'd gotten so sunburned when we went dancing that night at the old tropicana, i couldn't let him touch my back or shoulders! we both went back to our places (he a navy ship in san diego, me an apt in glendale ca) and started a long distance romance. it wasn't long before he'd come up on weekends he had off and i'd go to san diego...

we even had one of those "movie" good byes at the airport when he was shipping out for vietnam (tears and a stranger offering a hankie)...luck smile on us when iran (yes they were our pals those days) bought the ship he was on and they turned around 8 hours out of hawaii!

the next year we were married in las vegas where it all started...(and where my parents lived, lol) so in 2010 we will celebrate our 40th anniversary...

Aug 72. My uncle brings his new girlfriend over while Dad fixes his car...She's ok. In talking she mentioned she was the only girl with 3 brothers...no big deal...
Sept 72. "Cruising the strip", riding around downtown and parking at Firestones to talk to people doing the same, I went over to talk to my sister and BIL. I came back to my car, and there was a guy in my car, the best looking, most make-your-heart-flutter guy I had ever had the pleasure to meet! He asked me to get the Carol King tape out of the red box in my trunk. I couldn't believe he knew it was there!
Turns out he had helped Dad fix up my "first car" which I was driving, and he knew all about it and me...
Uncle and his sister married that year and divorced in a few, and we married in 1975 and are still married. I love it when I say I found my husband in my car in a parking lot!
Wouldn't have it any other way!!! He still makes my heart flutter...

    I met my husband when we were 12 years old...March 25, 1959.
He and his brothers and sisters moved to Texas to live with two uncles, because his parents died. One brother and two sisters lived with an uncle in a town about 7 miles away and he and his brother moved to my town. We had a very small school and two very handsome boys entering school was a big deal. All of the girls were crazy about them. They had blond hair, brown eyes, very tan, beautiful white teeth smiles. :sigh:

I was such a tomboy...I wasn't very girly. I had braids that went to my waist and I rode my horse every day after school. He came to visit me, because I had a horse. ;) I didn't start dating him until I was 16, although I was crazy about him when we met and I used to write about him in my diary every day, but since he never talked to me, the only thing I had to write about was what he wore to school that day.

When I was 14, I gave up...had other boyfriends. He asked me out when I was 16, and by then, I was over my infatuation with him, but I went anyway. We ended up dating for 3 years, married at 19 and almost 44 years later....still married. One child, born 15 years into our marriage.
