I don't like network news. All they talk about now is the next Presidential election. Like it's 2012, not still 2011. I can't stand another 15 months of Obama this, Perry that, Bachmann, ad nauseum...

I don't see the point of 24/7 news. All their daily news is shown in the first 1/2 hour and then repeated the rest of the day. Why bother? To be perfectly honest. Even that is more personal opinion than actual news. Personally, I would rather hear the news story unadorned without what the "talking heads" think. Let me decide for myself. Whatever happend to unbiased news on the front page and opinions reserved for the editorial page. (Translated, editors comments at the end of the news program)

I enjoy the Huffington Post. Not really live streaming (at least the parts I visit) but entertaining to say the least. May be good fodder for a stand-up comedienne. :-)

I use MSNBC.com as my home page, too, and get most of my news that way. CNN.com has more video coverage, if you prefer that.

My favorite news source, which I can't get anymore because I can't receive most radio stations, is NPR. "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition" offer excellent, in-depth news coverage.

Alisande, I listen to NPR a lot, and I think you can catch many of their shows online. I know they have podcasts of certain shows.

Wish we could get the Canadian programs/news. Some are very informative and outspoken. At one time they tried to get them, but of course US news people struck it down.

Marie, try getting them online. I watch CBC news online, go to the CBC news site for the closest Canadian city to you and you can probably get a live stream. I live stream CBC Windsor news or you can watch it on a later recording.

My tv set broke down a few months ago and I only watch tv online - I can pick and choose, hardly any commercials and watch when I want to watch a show. I get my weather from a local Detroit station online because they are more accurate than Environment Canada weather for the Windsor area.

Thanks for the reminder, Sleeperblues. I don't know why I don't think of it more often. "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" is the only show I listen to online with any regularity. There are so many other good ones.

Marie, our local public radio station broadcasts one or two Canadian news shows. You might see if yours does.

I'm a news junky and have been for the better part of my life. If I had to rely on network news, I'd have jumped off the roof long ago. Therefor...the first thing I did when I became the next worse thing...a computer junky...was to download and bookmark The Wall Street Journal. It's one of the purest news sources that I've found...and their site is refreshed on a regular basis throughout the day. They have a subscription base but a lot can be gleaned from their front page alone. Second to that might be the NY Times but they've also gone to a paid subscription base now. I still check their front page for the latest headlines. Both of these sites are 24/7 although not available as TV sites for most non broadband/cable users.

Check some of the local TV stations near you. Many will stream their news programs. Some only while they're broadcasting but often you can watch it - depends on the station. The historically big "news" radio station around here has gone nuts with the BS announcers and talk shows with biased hosts so I don't even listen to them for weather anymore, although their weather has gone downhill too since economizing. I listen to public radio in the vehicle mostly now. Online there's a couple I listen to.

For me, a good radio broadcast is often better than tv since they have to be clear and not talk with their hands and stuff. The talking head anchors on news shows that are so video reliant just can't communicate.

I will occasionally watch a Canadian broadcast or BBC on public TV too. Otherwise, I catch headlines on local news, catch some more online, radio and stories of interest I'll check into further. It was nice to avoid the Casey Infamy party.

I've been staying at my cousin's a lot lately with his medical problems and he has satellite. I just shook my head and went glad I don't waste my money on it. The only things worth watching were vintage sitcoms and I can get them online.

I have always had MSNBC as my home page. Interesting stuff besides hard core news. Love NPR as well. Only watch regular networks when I'm at the gym.

I like the BBC - listen to that on the radio. Also read the Wall Street Journal though the quality of that journalism has deteriorated since the change in ownership. I very rarely watch network news. Sometimes I will look at msnbc.com on my iPhone if I'm wondering if anything major has happened in the world.

Mainstream American news media is so highly biased I can't stomach much of it.

I hate the local news most of all! They are way too focused on who got shot, stabbed, raped, kidnapped, etc., and then, again, they spend so much time joking around and "reporting" amusing anecdotes. It's crap!

I remember about 35 years ago I worked at a small local newspaper I learned a huge lesson that I still remember. I had written a column and it was rejected by the editor. He said he was afraid it would anger an advertiser. I thought that was completely bogus and still do! That's the bottom line for all of them, gotta keep the money guys happy.

Unfortuntately the "news" media is too wrapped up with money to care about proper journalistic reporting anymore. I don't take much of any news at face value anymore.
