Post Titles that stick in your memory

Are there any posts that have stuck in your memory? Or funny titles that made you LOL when you opened it?

There was one that JoanMN posted a long time ago that has become a part of our vocabulary.

The thread was titled:

"Can I play with your knocklockers?"

Then you open the thread and there is a picture of Emma with the binoculars up to her face. OMGosh, made me laugh till I cried. We still call them knocklockers to this day! (or DH forgets and calls them knockknocks).

Soooo, what funny/memorable posts have stuck in your brain?

LOL! I must have missed that one :)

It wasn't exactly the post title, but one post that I'll never forget was the "score tick wants" post.

This one makes me laugh. It was posted and the Test Forum, and has since fallen off the page there, but I can still bring it up from a saved bookmark.

I grew up in rural SD in a large family and played lots of board games, monopoly and Rummy Royale two of our favorites. Sledding down our tiny hills was a great winter time activity; walking over snowbanks to see how far one could go before falling through; listening to my Mom telling stories of when she was growing up; Summers: made necklaces from poppy blossoms; picked wild milkseed pods to feel the silk and blow the seeds in the air; walked down dusty roads barefoot dragging our feet through the thick cool dust; summer days spent looking at clouds searching for images; riding bikes everywhere (though we had to take turns, not enough bikes for each); wagon rides; playing kick the can and hide and seek in the coolness of the evenings; climbing trees; playing "house" in our wooded play area; playing "horse" where we ran as fast as we could and jumped anything jumpable; wading in the creek searching for tadpoles; jumping into a soft pile of hay; making clothes for our paper dolls; "styling" one another's hair; hosting the first pizza party and making and introducing this new food to our friends; Games: tag, baseball, Captain May I, Red Rover, foot races; the game where one throws the ball over a small building and if the ball is caught runs around to capture the other team, if they haven't successfully run to the other side of the building, (can't remember the name); Work: on a farm there was always work, cleaning out animal pens, bringing in the cows from the pasture, feeding and milking cows, feeding the calves; shoveling grain, forking hay, collecting eggs (which I disliked as hated getting pecked by the hens) and the number one hated, boring job, weeding our huge garden. Never thought I'd someday love to garden though I don't have to weed much as I have learned to prevent weeds. I enjoyed recalling these memories for you, makes me smile at all the good times we had.

My first garden was a row of carnival colored zinnias, bordered by clam shells each one with a letter from my name painted in fingernail polish. There was also a small evergreen in the front that had a few sparkly bits of blue Christmas ornaments under it. Those were my favorite things in my own yard. I do have a memory of seeing summer annuals for sale for the first time. It was on the roof top of a department store building near Washington, DC. They use to have parking up there and I guess sold plants there as well. It was probably a Sears and Roebuck, or Montgomery Wards. I remember the cobalt blue of lobelia and the charmed orange and mahogany of marigolds faces. I didn't know their names them, and I'm sure I was simultaneously being dragged away by my busy parents, but I still remember those colors on that hot roof top! Then later I saw marigolds again dotting a walkway into my great grandmother's regal house. I wanted to kiss each face of those flowers, but once again was being dragged along behind a parent. They were always too busy for flower kissing. Later, though, my mom taught me to save the seeds of marigolds, and I still do.

What funny stories! Two of my personal favorites involve my cat. When she first adopted me, I was single and living in a "no cats allowed" apartment building. For obvious reasons, I wanted to keep her a secret. She, however, invented what she thought was a very fun game. When I would come home from work or wherever, she would make a break for the door to "escape." Once out of the door, she would run like crazy to the door at the end of the hall that led to the outside. Then she would wait for me to run after her, dodge me and then run as fast as she could back to my apartment. This game used to drive me crazy. One day, tho, she took off as per usual. Just as she reached the outer door, it opened and a person who lived down the hall came in. Scared my kitty half to death! She ran as fast as she could to me, crying all the way. Never bolted out the door again. My other memory is when we brought our 1st sheltie home. Same cat, now 12 years of spoiling later, had become quite used to being the "only." Dogs had come to visit before, but always with someone else and she never really minded, as long as they left her alone. This was different and she knew it instantly! She was lying on the couch and as soon as she saw the dog, she arched up, started screaming and hopped sideways across the living room floor. Scared our poor sheltie . . . and us . . . half to death! 5 years and another sheltie later she's quite used to the idea of sharing her house. She's still the queen bee and never lets them forget it.

I've only 'known' my grandmothers after doing some genealogy and general sleuthing -- although I remember both women quite well. I thought both my grandmothers were very stern, hard women, but I didn't know the why of it. My maternal grandmother lived with my mother and me from the time my parents divorced. She lived into her 90's. She was Scots-Irish and came to NYC with her widowed mother, elder sister and brother when she was in her teens. "Poor" doesn't begin to say it! Her mother and brother died of TB when my mother was a small child. Her beloved husband (the only good man to ever live, according to her) had a stroke in his late 50's and lingered bedridden until dying. She disapproved of my mother's choice of husband; he proved her judgement to be correct. My paternal grandmother's father was a doctor in silver mining towns in Colorado. Three of her sibs died before they were three. Her two brothers died in accidents; one in his teens and one in his twenties. Her parents begged her to refuse the nice farmer in their native Pennsylvania and marry the guy in Colorado -- to keep her near them. Big Mistake. She bore seven children to this blowhard; one son died at seven. They were constantly on the move -- ahead of the landlord. Her father was crippled when his horse and buggy went off a mountain during a night housecall. During the Depression her husband deserted the family. She managed by renting a large home in a college town and taking in boarders, having sent the two eldest boys to live with a relative. Big Mistake #2: she took the man back. He led her a merry chase. She died in her 60's. He lived to be 100. No surprise these women seemed "stern" to me.

Jen, we still call them knocklockers, too. I could NOT figure out what she wanted until her mother told me!
She also asked her dad once if he was "impres-ted" by something she did, so we say that all the time. And "good job, Eli", no matter who we're talking to, cause Julee says that to Eli a lot.
Steph told us once we couldn't throw some papers away, cause they were her "potent" papers.
Funny how that stuff then becomes part of the family vocabulary! My mom still says "lardlight" and "pidow" instead of yard light and pillow, because my brother called them that.

'Kid-Speak' has to be in every family.

I was just out in the back yard moving the garden hose and 'binker'. (That's from DS.)

"You can do it, Grandpa!" (DGS, now four, urges each of us on the same way he's been encouraged.)

Years ago, before I really knew her, Buzzard made a post titled "That's amoray".... lol I thought "poor bird-brain, doesn't know how to spell too well, does she?"

And I opened up the post to find a photo. Of a moray eel! lololol She won me over that day, without hardly trying. I loved her sense of humor then and I still love it today.

we all call light rain "sparkling" from my now (gasp) 37 yo dd did as a toddler..and it was years before it was napkin, instead of "napkune"...
