I am glad you decided to post again. Just watch Tayler's temp and feel her gums to feel if any teeth are cutting thru. If so, soak a washcloth in cold water, ring it out and let her suck or chew on that. It seems to help. Actually anything cold on her gums would help. Give her baby advil.

That is such a tough call with tooth or earache. Is she pulling on her ear at all?? That was about the only way I could tell.....but I would end up at the Dr. either way, DD#2 had terrible earaches...once it even burst - YUCK! I didn't linger too long on those. Hopefully it is a tooth and will break through and be done and over with it. Good Luck!

glad to see you back and I do have compassion for you as my DD is married to a ranger and he gets called out alot so she has had to deal with these problems. But you will survive. Next step for her is having two teen in HS. My hugs are with you.

I am so surprised and happy to see your post today. I thought I wouldn't be hearing any updates on those precious girls. Poor Tayler. I hope she is feeling like herself tomorrow. Also, coincidences do happen. There's nothing that says she couldn't be teething and have an ear infection. Given the fact that she's pulling at her ear, I'd check with her doctor. At least a call to the office.

You made the right decision to call the doctors office. It does sound like an ear infection...let us know.

FYI...I could usually tell my kids had an ear infection because their sleep pattern changed. They were definitely more restless at night!

It has been so long since I've had an infant around, I've forgotten all those tips and helps. Except one. Would this be Taylor's first tooth? When my DS was cutting his first tooth, I would give him a cold, raw, peeled carrot to chew on. The cold feeling on the gums was helpful, plus the slight taste of the carrot made him like it and he would hold and "gum" it for a long time. Once one tooth comes in, don't try the carrot thing again. (Ask me why I know that!)

Take care of yourself, and remember, kids are resilient, more so than we grown ups are.

Well I for one think it is a Fairy Tale...and a very good one!!! I said in my very first post to you when you announced it OMG how wonderful! We've had a few "miracle" tales on here. Anyone remember Pattico-I think it was-- who had a friend who adopted from another friend....or even SandyIA and her DD#1's adoption story...or how about those of us who's KT Prayers have been answered..of which one is me and my DGD now 8 who had Menningitis at 12 weeks!!!

Does this kind of stuff happen a lot..no...can they happen, OF COURSE, THAT'S WHY THEY'RE CALLED MIRACLES!

I forget how old your little one is (and I'm not willing to wade thru the nonsense ) but Jel could be right. My youngest got ear infections often during those teething months. Hope she feels better, and sleeps better soon.

Its been quite a while since I have had a baby though, and because of that I really don't remember much about the symptoms of teething other than drooling and low grade fever. Being she is tugging at her ear though, I would guess an ear infection. Given her age though, I think she is teething AND has an ear infection. I would have taken her to the doctor too. I hope she is feeling better soon.

FW, I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am to hear from you again!

The ear issue could be an infection - do a google.com search on 'ear tubes for toddlers' - there might be some hints in there. My now-eight year old grandson had to have tubes in his ears at age one and age three, due to frequent ear infections. After the tubes, no more ear infections.

Would you consider emailing a couple of your supporters, just so we can keep in touch? I would love to keep up with your blessed story!

Nuts...he doesn't have an opening unitl tomorrow afternoon. I just gave her some childrens advil and an ice cold wash cloth to chew on. I think she is definalty teething but she acts like her little ear hurts. I sat her down for a minute and she lays her head on any flat surface and just cries. I am trying to get the other two monkeys to eat their breakfast.

I'm very harpy to see you back, because I frankly thought you were gone. I have followed your story and marveled how you're coping so well. I don't know how old you are, but I had ONE baby at 21 and could hardly function for weeks. I had no support tho..living the whole way up the state from relatives and friends. But you are superwoman. It helps you knew the girls, and they you. Please keep up the updates. We all feel like your girls' cyber aunts or grandmas..lol.. BTW..it could be teething, but my guess is ear infection which my son got often.

Throw a towel in the dryer, get it all nice and warm, fold it and let her lay her little ear on that. It feels so good. Make sure it's not too hot tho.

Add me to the list of those that are happy to see you posting in spite of the "wolf gang" that love to chew at your heels. If it isn't you, it would be me or someone else. Relax.. they will move on to other pastures after awhile. Just keep on posting and don't let any pessimist with a crab apple face get you down... They are found at most all the boards these days..

Taylor probably has the ear infection along with a new tooth coming. My DGS would just stand and cry when he had an ear infection, no other signs. We were always told to watch for them to pull on their ear. He didn't. Sending her lots of hugs to feel better soon.

Tanna will have a blast in school, but that excitment probably isn't helping you cope with Taylor! I am glad she is so excited!

I'm so sorry about Tayler ... and I'm absolutely no help, it's been way too long since I've been around babies. But I'm wondering, do you have a walk-in clinic nearby that could take a look at her, rather than waiting for the doctor's opening tomorrow? It is pure misery to have a little one who is in such discomfort, and you can't help.

See if there is an Urgent Care in your area. I usually can't get my kids in to the Pediatrician when they are sick, but we can get into the Urgent Care within an hour or two. I like to get the antibiotics started ASAP if they need it. Your insurance company could probably give you suggestions on place to go according to your insurance coverage if you need it.

FMW, is there an urgent care center nearby? There were a few times my pediatrician couldn't squeeze us in, so it was off to urgent care. My heart goes out to little Taylor if she dealing with both an ear infection and teething. Please keep us posted!

I agree that you should bring her to an urgent care center! If it is an ear infection, you'll be in for a veeerrrryyy long afternoon, evening and night if she doesn't get meds!

I was thinking too is there a minute clinic near you, they're great (and cheap) for things like ear infections. I wouldn't wait until tomorrow as my DD had them, and once her eardrum burst. I had one once as an adult...OMG what pain!

You might try calling the doctor's office and ask his nurse to call you back. When the nurse knows Tayler probably has an ear infection, she might be able to squeeze you in. Otherwise, she might suggest you go to the ER.

sounds like the baby is teething--crack the childrens Tylenol to her,if u have it until seen by the doc..either way,teeth or ear,Tylenol will help

Be careful with applying heat to the affected area....it can cause more pressure.
The family doc I used to work with always advised putting a can of frozen juice in a old cotton sock and applying it to the affected ear for a few minutes at a time.
Hope you can catch up on your rest.

Yes the ear needs to be addressed, I agree that it is also probably brought on by the teething.

I won't even tell you what teething did to my oldest.

Until she can be seen, keep up the Advil and/or Tylenol, and keep her dosed about an hour before "the minimum" on the bottle..that way she won't "run" out and have to "wait" for it to kick in. When my kids were running fevers and teething, I would rotate motrin and tylenol, per their pediatricians suggestion. Because they do a few different things than the other. Mortrin/Advil is an anti inflammatory and Tylenol is a better pain reliever.

I bet you in a few days at least one tooth will have popped through the surface.

I'm so glad to see an update from you. I'd have missed you if you had decided to leave us. Hope the baby feels better soon. Seems like teething and ear infection went hand in hand for our youngest.

We are going through the same symptoms with our eight month old ggs. The nasty diapers and drooling. Took him to doc and yes it's his teeth. Doc said, he didn't really see anything with the ear, he hurts and don't know why so he just does the ear pulling. Gave him some stuff for his gums and told her to give him the cold wash cloth to chew on. Sure enough three days later a tooth was trying to pop through. When our daughters were little we use to warm sweet oil a little and put that in the ear. Always seemed to help. Hope she gets to feeling better soon. No fun not to feel good and really hard on mom not knowing how to help. Just give them all what you have been. Lots of TLC.

If she doesn't get better, I would take her to Urgent care. I forgot to add, my son who was prone to ear infections all of his childhood, went to bed fine one night and woke up screaming with an ear ache. We took him to the ER at 5 AM and our pediatrician met us there. But in that short time, his ear drum had broken.

It's so good to hear from you again - this just makes my day. It's awful when one of the kids isn't feeling well but it sounds like you got great advice. Hopefully the doctor can squeeze her in or at least talk to you on the phone.
As for the clothes making her hot - I don't see that as adding to the problem. I hope she takes a long nap for you.

Please, in my small town you'd better get sick between 8:30 and 2 pm, and not on Thursday Or the weekend cause the doctors office is closed. We don't have an urgent care and the closest ER is 35 minutes away. And I'm in north central California. Go figure.

I used to live in one of those small isolated towns where there weren't enough doctors and no urgent care. We were directed to the ER if we couldn't snag an appointment. I had always used the ER for emergencies so it took a while to accept that we would be visiting the ER for non-emergencies like a high fever or strep throat. ER had a $15 copay versus the $100 for ER.

When my DD was teething we gave her mini frozen bagels, they also make great little gob suckers when they thaw a bit. Another thing we gave her was dill pickles to gnaw on.

Is it any wonder that her favorite foods today are bagels and dill pickles? lol

Once the teeth are through she should be fine. She'll forget all about it, but the trauma will stay with Mom forever! Hugs to you!

I have never had a pediatrician make me wait till the next day for a sick child. You might want to consider finding a group practice because fall/winter is yet to come and with a kindergartner going to school, this probably won't be your last sick visit.for the year. If that isn't an option, see if your CVS has a Minute Clinic. Our copay is only $15 there. The downside of the Minute Clinic is limited hours, but they do come in handy! Tilt the baby's mattress up on one end with pillows placed underneath. She will be more comfortable when laying down.
