I would ask your eye doctor.

How can you even get a contact in your eye that is "inside out"? If I have one on that way it is immediately noticeable and almost painful.

Have your eye doctor try you out in different kinds of lenses until you find the one that fits.

I would never go back to regular GP lenses. I know the cost can be more, but my eyes feel so much better with the disposables. My disposables are wearable for 2 weeks. I can even sleep in them, but as I get older - I seldom do... but I like the option because I am blind as a bat. LOL

I agree, talk to your dr. However, if the bottle of enzyme cleaner only says to use it once a week, that's all I would use it. It has been a few years since I could wear contacts, so I don't remember. And an inside out contact is very painful. If I got mine inside out, they were digging into my eye. How are you managing that?

Disposable contacts are so "flexible" (read flimsy!!!!!), they aren't painful insideout. I find them to feel cheap and move around constantly. They're highly irritating.

I'm sorry, but I just don't believe what contact industry says. I don't. I think they're in it to make a buck, and really, that's why you are almost stuck buying disposable. They want you to replace them constantly.

I just ordered 8 boxes of disposables, Acuvue Oasis, for $146 which will last me 2 years... I change them once a month & don't sleep in them. I think that's really cheap! I just search around on the web & find the best price...this time it was VisionDirect dot com. I don't understand how it is better for you to wear disposables inside out...I think the prescription must be wrong. If I inadvertently do that, it isn't painful but my vision is wonky.

I agree w/ Iowagirl to ask your dr how often to enzyme, but I'm concerned there might be something else going on with your eyes. When I switched from gas perm I found the soft/disposables wayyyy more comfortable, even tho the gp's were very well tolerated. I've worn contacts for 45 yrs... Started with the old "hard" ones, & am veryyyyy nearsighted. Love my contacts.

I apprecite the time y'all are taking to answer me. I will ask him about the additional cleaning to make sure it's fully ok. It looks like it is. I've now seen on another website (sorry, I don't want to be talked into disposable! I was merely curious for personal experience. Looks like I stand alone.), there is no degredation for a lens by the hydrogen peroxide cleaning. It won't work for disposables because they're so thin, it'd cause wear on them to give them the same regimen as daily wear. Daily wear are much thicker. They don't tear and degrade like disposables and can withstand the cleaning regimen.

I will tell you, there's nothing going on with my eyes. Cheap materials are cheap materials that make for flimsy contacts. It's just my experience. They're not nearly as good as daily wear. Period. Conversely, if you ever want to give daily wear (permanent) lens a try, I am finding that the gel drops, give it that fresh out of the box, silicone hydrogel feel, without the poorer quality of disposable. But that's just my opinion.

I don't think of them as flimsy - but I agree... they are MUCH thinner. The first time I put in disposables it was like ... ahhhh... much better... LOL!

Everyone is different -so I hope you find the perfect fit.

My son had a hard time getting into the right lens. They would actually "fall out" of his eyes! Took a lot of tries - but he is in some that work great for him now.

I don't order from a discount place - the ones I get from my eye doc are nearly as cheap as the online ones - and I get fantastic service..... he gives his patients his cell phone number with the instructions to call ANYTIME. He has helped me out on the weekends - to me that is worth the little extra $$

Plus his office support is great - they can fix my glasses and buff out scratches for no charge.

falls out of his eyes?! Wow. I feel for him. That'd be so frustrating. You remember when lens first came out and in movies/on tv there'd be that "Nobody move! I've lost a lens!" and the person would be frantically trying to find it on the floor, one handed no less, with the other hand searching. HA! Funny stuff.

I too love my opthamalogist (his staff, not so much). He's great. He's taken the time to try to get me lens that are not multifocal to avoid the cost and even walked me around outside of the office to show me one long distance and one close up lens works just fine. Talk about the extra mile! Doncha just love when you get a good provider?

I use my enzymatic cleaner once every 5-6 days with no problems. I tend to have a high protein build-up on the lens and so my contact lens provider suggested using it more often.

I have gas permeable lenses (obviously) but my prescription is too high for disposables. I tried the bifocal lenses and just about passed out I was so dizzy from them but then my DR tried one long distance lens and a closer up lens and that works really well for me.

My kids aren't impressed with me because they inherited my eye sight, or lack thereof, (although not nearly as bad as mine) rather than their fathers. Oh well.

I wasn't able to wear the disposable (soft) lens until the last 5 years or so. They weren't able to make that kind of lens to the high degree of correction I needed....mine are -10.5 and -9.5 ...very nearsighted. I was like you Iowagirl, when I first put the lenses in my eye, I too said Ahhhh. I don't think they are flimsy...just flexible &thinner. One really nice advantage: you never get a speck of dust or stray eyelash under the soft lens, as happens with gas perms. There is definitely a learning curve to removing the soft ones...that took awhile for me as it is totally different. My eye dr is fine with my getting my lens from discounters, he says they are exactly the same lens as he gets, he just can't sell them as cheaply. They have an outdate on each box, so they are good for years.

Rob-what gel drops??? I have GPs. The eye Dr recently recommended Blink but I keep forgetting to look for that product. Do you use those drops when your eyes feel dry only? I didn't think the enzyme drops were still made however the DR recently polished my GPs for free., They felt brand new!

I'm really bad. I have the daily contacts but I wear them non-stop for a week (including sleeping!). I don't even feel them or notice them until a week or so and they start to get uncomfortable, so I let my eyes "air" out over night to get rid of any redness and then put a new set in the next day.

My eye doctor lectures me every time but it's hard to change my lazy habits as I have yet to have any adverse reactions. I'm looking into Lasik at this point as I am not responsible enough for contacts, lol.

Refresh Liquigel. It's really thick drops. As long as you know that (and it takes a minute or so to non-blurry vision), you'll be good to go. Systane also gets really good reviews, so I'm trying them next, but it'd be hard to beat the drops I already have. Systane is touted to be the best, without the thicker gel part. Refresh was prescribed to me a couple of weeks ago.

chi, that's been one of the reasons touted for lens providers going to strictly disposable contacts, people just don't like the routine of contact cleaning. My guess it's a CYA kind of idea. They just don't want to be sued! I wish I could go more than 12 hours with contacts (daily or disposable. I've tried it all. Well, not hard lenses). Wow, a whole week. You are lucky!

Yeah I imagine it's just very personal to your eye shape and body chemistry whether you can wear them long-term or not without pain or irritation. I can't even tell they are in most of the time. I don't use eye drops of any sort.

I guess I'm lucky (my 6 month supply has lasted years!) but I also worry I'm doing long-term damage to my eyes. But it's hard to change a habit of 15 years.
