What else is there to do in Vegas?

DH has work in Vegas next month and I am going along. We are going out early so we'll have a couple days free together and then I have a few by myself. I was in Vegas about 15 years ago and we did the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon Tours (wonderful BTW).

We are going to see a show while we are there. We aren't big gamblers but will hit a few to try our luck! And I want to see some of the free shows (Bellagio fountains, Mirage Volcano, Fremont St Experience etc) We are trying to figure out if we should bother renting a car (obviously depends on where we go). So what else is there worth seeing? Some tried and true recommendations? TIA!

If I were going to Vegas, I would go to Terry Fater's show. He is the amazing ventriloquist who won America's Got Talent a few years ago.

The mall at Caesars Palace is a treat! Plus they have an authentic caesar's salad which is awesome. Be aware. loaded with garlic.

Warning: seafood tower is very expensive.

Virtually all organic fertilizers are, Ann. Dogs LOVE the stuff. Many also like Sluggo, the iron phosphate snail bait. One of mine goes nuts when he finds the stuff. He likes it as much as he likes the snails themselves. The other one prefers any poop she finds and all the "worm jerky" out front after the rains. Takes some real effort to police the area before they're allowed out! I can't use organics out back because the animal by products attract the coyotes, bob cats, raccoons while the plant by products attract every rodent, squirrel and rabbit for miles. Those attract SNAKES and all organics encourage earth worm activity and that brings more MOLES. Danged if I do, danged if I don't! Kim

"Wood ash does nothing to help a compost pile get digested and may even hinder the bacteria from doing their job of digesting the rest of it. Wood Ash, when mixed with water, produces lye a very caustic substance that will kill many forms of life. Below is a lionk to the composting tutorial mentioned above." That has not been my experience, I put much more wood ash on my garden/compost than the experts recommend. I have a free supply of fire wood and I use about two full cords in the house for atmosphere and I heat my shop all winter with a wood stove using another two cords. I have been doing this for 37 years on this garden. If your soil is alkaline then you may want to add some garden sulphur but it is an excellent source of pot ash. Weird, I had posted a reply earlier but it's disappeared. I once made some really good vegetarian "burgers" with cooked barley. As I recall there was also rolled oats, herbs, lots of soy sauce, some flour and egg to bind, not sure what else. I'm away from home atm so I can't post the actual recipe until the 23rd at the earliest, but you could experiment with flavours you like. Even my "makes a face when you mention vegetarian food, especially if it's different" husband really liked these :-)

move the wedding photo to the niche (or in another room). you actually need two of them (the one you have is hung too high) here's an example. or, if you want the one, try staging it like this. maybe tile the back wall inside the nice, try a wallpaper, a darker paint color. I've always liked this wall niche. I love the black/white inlay bone mirror. in this tall rectangle, it lookds great inside the arched niche. consider cutting a piece of wood for the bottom portion tried to photoshop it but your photo is crooked. if you could get me a shot of it standing straight on, I could play around w/it. beneath the mirror I'd place a piece of wood for the bottom 'shelf'. it would be like a sill. the wood would match your post or your flooring. you could do a small grouping of plants, or something similar to sit on the wood 'sill' beneath the mirror. now, for your entry table, do it like this. the mercury glass lamps/black shade, and the bright green/white floral arrangement is so pretty. especially if you do the black/white bone inlay mirrorr what about this version w/the art? you'd have to pick something you like, but fit it between two lamps, or some greenery and a vase. I like the ceramica stools beneath them. black would also work I actually have this light for my hallway. Bergamot 17" I also love a good piece of art. your table, a few key pieces If doing a mirror, do something in the right size, balanced w/other items. get some little ottomans to slide under the console, or something like these baskets these are three diff ways to style slim consoles. it's paired here w/a snow leopard rug. but look at the top left.. the white vase w/plant leaves, stool/basket beneath, a little lamp, other elements and a large mirror. (I like a nice piece of art better) this is the size you'd want here's a large mirror, console, small stool to slide under it, and a nice potted orchid. and a cool light dont forget some cool lighting.

A pre-welcome to my city! While you are at the Bellagio, don't pass up the Conservatory inside the hotel. It changes continually and is great for photos. Madame Tussauds at the Venetian is always fun. If you get a car, take a drive out to Red Rock Canyon. There is a scenic loop out there too. I understand the Show in the Sky at the Rio is back up and running and it is free. Bring clothes to stay cool in and shoes that are good for walking in, if you intend to walk the Strip. Have fun while you are here. If I think of something more...I'll be back.

Thanks Vicki! Rio was one of my favorite casinos last time I was there even though it was off the Strip.

Susan-I saw that Ethel M chocolate factory tour. Sounds right up my alley! Although may be dangerous being that close to all that chocolate!

The Shark Tank at Mandalay Bay, the lions at MGM, the shipwreck at Treasure Island, the volcano at Mirage and fountains at Bellagio are all fun and worth seeing as well as the lightshow at the Golden Nuggett in the evenings. Pick up a Vegas guide or go online and see what shows are there when you are there. We have seen some excellent shows in Las Vegas! Have fun.

Gosh!! Now I want to go back to Vegas after reading these posts. :) All we did was gamble and walk the strip.. we were young and 'crazy in love' back then though.

We are going to Vegas in Oct. and have tickets for Terry Fader's show and one other (cannot remember name). We'll go check out the dam (new bridge or something?) and Red Rocks. Not a fan of Vegas, but it will be nice to get away.

The last time I was there I was at the Tropicana and a bunch of people came walking out in costumes. They film this game show there (someone help me out with the name, lol - I think Monty somebody was the host years ago).

After talking to one participant she mentioned that you have to get there at 7am to sign up and then come back in the afternoon for the show. You might want to try your luck with that. They also have The Price is Right in another hotel (scaled down version).

I was there once you could be like me and miss my flight and spend an extra 3 hours in the airport.

If you want to just rest for a bit, there's an open air piano lounge right off the Bellagio lobby. I love to just sit there and people watch.

If you are heading to Red Rock Canyon make sure you also go to the Hoover Dam, what an interesting tour! There is also a tour that goes to the lake for some rest and relaxation, it was fun as well.
