My Daughter Was In A Car Accident Today...

She works really hard,lives on her own,she has a full time job,she cleans the homes her dad builds,she helps me a really hard working girl.She bought her first car,which she loved dearly a vw black jetta.Well 3- 20 year old guys full of tattoos in daddys van werenmt paying attention at traffic stopped at light ,ran into the back of her new jetta,I feel so bad for her.She wasnt hurt although she complained of a bad headache not sure if its stress or worse.They told her its not that bad..4 police cruisers came they took a report.Shes really upset.

It sucks when you work hard for something only to have someone else tear it up! Hope insurance will cover the damage and she has no lasting effects!

I'm glad she wasn't hurt badly.
I would be upset too, as well as thankful it wasn't far worse.
Hopefully her/their insurance will take care of everything.

Good thing you don't live in communist Canada. Well an elected dictatorship anyway. Manatoba has AutoPac. Government controled and implimented auto insurance. No AutoPac no car. It's that simple.Their valadation sticker is on your plates. They even control your drivers licence. We are the only place in the world that i know of that you get convicted of the same crime 4 times. The courts get you. AutoPac gets you. D.M.V. gets you, and the police get you. This is just a motor vehicle infraction. Just be thankfull you have a choice. Ex. D.U.I. it is a 6 month suspention. $500.00 fine. After everyone gets a piece of you it becomes minimum $1000.00 fine $250.00 for Alcohol rehab. $250.00 for the cource. Drivers licence goes from $40.00 to $100.00 with a $200.00 sir charge. Yes the police are involved instantly if it is D.U.I. or just an accident. If we have one accident that is our fault even if you haven't have one in 20 years our insurance goes up 50%, we lose every discount we ever got and our drivers licence goes up $200.00. If your car is a right off you lose it. Yes they take it unless you want to buy it back. They remove that price from your pay out. Just be thankfull you have a choice. We don't. If i could get my green card i'd be down there so fast i wouldn't hear a dial tone from the I.N.S. I'm sure after this comment the R.C.M.P. may be banging at my door. I think i used a few BUZZ words that shouldn't be used. If you don't hear from me in the next month or two you'll know what happend. Just my input. Auto accidents and the prevailing insurance issues has always been a hot topic for me. Recently, my 20 yo daughter who has had 2 auto accidents in the last 2 years as well as 2 speeding tickets has me paying premiums in excess of 8000/yr. I have a 17 yo who has been driving on a permit for a year who is itching for her license but my insurance company of 25 years tells me my rates will go to 9900/yr, something I just can't fathom as the current rates are really putting a choke hold on my family. Concerned about my own daughters automobile, (the one that has been in 2 accidents totalling about 9000.00 in damages) I ordered a carfax report, I think it cost me something like 29 dollars. It came back Clean! Can you believe it?!! My first impulse was to call and complain, before the duh factor kicked in. Her car was put back together with parts that fit but weren't necessary made for her make and model; i.e., non-factory parts. It also should have been totaled but the repair shop did quite a bit of work before determining the damage was more extensive than first appraised. Oh well, like I said, auto insurance is such a hot topic with me, it always pushes my buttons, I just had to jump in. If I were the OP and I had the stamina, I would raise cain with the insurance company to be compensated for the depreciated loss. Kathy

Julie, like Susan said, don't worry about "normal".There is no "normal". Each one of us grieves as differently as each of our personalities and experiences with our loved ones who have left us. Being that we all have different experiences with our loves, we have different hurts, issues to deal with, circumstances to straighten out in our heads and the list goes on and on. We all have that basic grief, but there is no time table or rules when it comes to what we are feeling inside and when it surfaces. Birthdays are hard for me. Harder than the "Heaven Day" as I call it. I try not to think too much about the fact that I won't ever see Chris again in this life. I try to remember that this life is VERY short compared to the eternity of pure happiness that I will spend with her after my time here is up. That is a happy thought. Try to replace your bad/sad thoughts with happy ones. It will help you survive this. I too, can honestly finally see a significant difference in my emotional state since Chris left. It has been 6 years and 5 months. My heart is finally feeling lighter and I am more ready to do fun things. Chris knows I love her and always will. DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR BODY OR WAIT A FEW DAYS TO SEE HOW YOU FEEL. Get to the emergency room immediately and have them check you out. Soft tissue injuries or internal injuries can take days or even months to manifest, but if you delay even a couple days the insurance companies will fight you tooth and nail later. If you have it looked at now, that officially establishes the onset date for any future claim you may have to file. Ask any lawyer and they will tell you it is much easier to prove a claim, even if you mediacally check out fine right now. Many insurance policies even have a clause that says you are not covered if the original accident was not seen by a doctor with an specified period of time, which is typically about 48 to 72hrs.

Aww, man... that sucks!

I hope, she won't have any aches tomorrow, and that the van was insured... and she gets her car fixed or replaced.

Accidents suck... trust me, I know.

well hope shes ok. so sorry to hear about her busting her behiney working so hard and then lose it. feel awful for her. thank goodness she wasnt hurt though. a car can be replaced.

Even though she does not appear to be hurt, please have her get a Xray and/or scan of neck and head. Sometimes injuries show up later especially brain internal bleeding. They are watching HS kids that get head injuries more and more. Sorry about her car and her injuries and do hope all will be better soon.

I'm sorry to hear this. I was once rear ended when stopped at a red light, and I still remember how upset I was. I also had a sore lower back for a couple of weeks.

An ice pack on her neck might help the headache.

I'm very glad that a police report was made.

I'm sorry to hear that--it's devastating for them when they have that car they love and it gets banged up.

Please have her be very aware of her health for the next few weeks. When DD was in an accident some years back, she went to the hospital, was checked out and X-rayed, was fine that night. But within 2 weeks, she developed a back problem that's going to give her pain and problems the rest of her life.

My second suggestion is to do what we did. Turn the whole thing over to your attorney. Don't talk to your insurance (other than to alert them that there WAS an accident), don't negociate with the other fellow's insurance, don't deal with the medical bills--just let your lawyer do all that. If your lawyer is any good at all, your daughter will come out way ahead, even after his fee--I know my dd did quite well (although, no amount of money can ever compensate one for a lifetime--well, 50-70 years--of pain). But the last headache your daughter needs right now, is having to deal with insurance companies--encourage her to let a professional handle it for her.

A headache starting right after a rear end collision can be a sign of a more serious injury. Have her go to her doctor asap. Hopefully she did. That's scary about rear end collisions, I have heard of scams with those with the driver who does the running into the back end of people on purpose, thankfully ok. I would have been scared to death of those 3 guys. I have a feeling there were other people around who saw the accident.

Poor girl, I know how she feels!!! Hopefully the other drivers insurance will cover it (they should) and she gets it fixed fast. Glad she wasn't hurt.

Oh dang it. I hate for her to have her new car all banged up. I hate worse that she has the headache. This happened to my daughter on her way to work a few months ago. Her neck is still bothering her, and probably always will. Please talk her into seeing a Dr. And I agree with azzalea, talk to/through your lawyer. I wish my DD had.

Here's another reminder for her to see her doctor. Even if she seems OK, it's a record of the event and of her status right after the accident.

A friend in CA has been rear-ended three times. She's 37 now and has permanent back problems resulting from the initial injury and re-injuries.

Doesn't seem fair does it?? Please have her get checked out by a doctor, just in case. Thankfully, I've only been in minor accidents, but I felt like I got hit by a Mac Truck!

Sorry that she has the physical hurt - and agree that she should see a doc. about it immediately - and the emotional hurt, as well, in having this possession that meant so much to her get seriously damaged.

Driving is a risky business, so requires our full attention at all times. Frequently many choose to break the rules. Here's a game that you can play. Each time you go driving, check the traffic around you (which you should be doing, anyway) and note whether others, or you yourself, are breaking the rules of the road.

I'll bet that there are few trips that you make, even short ones, where you don't see someone breaking the rules.

Each time that we break the rules, even though the error seems inconsequential ... we put the limb and even the life of ourselves and others near us at even greater than the regular risk.

Good wishes for safe travel... and for your daughter to suffer no lasting ill effcts.
