How often do you change your tooth brush attachment

How often do you change the toothbrush attachment on your battery operated toothbrush. I have a Phillips Sonicare and the replacement brushes are about 2 for $27. Pretty pricey. I was changing them every 6 months but I've been using this one for about 10 month, and it doesn't seem to be any worse for wear.

Don't have an electric toothbrush, I just use a manual, but I thought you were supposed to change your toothbrush every month? I generally don't quite make it that often, usually change mine about every 2 months. It's not so much the wear, as I've been told, but the germ factor, I believe.

Every dental appointment, which is every six months.

UNLESS someone was sick, then it is changed right after the get better.

Great answer about your grandchild, Joan. She must really be something. I have multiple machines, most are task specific (serger, blindstitch, button sewer, walking foot, needle feed, and rotary take-up), all but one are industrial models; many are now termed "vintage". I would say I tend to clean them (on average) once a month, but that depends on what I've been sewing, too. Sometimes I do really dirty/gritty awning repairs, sometimes I'm working with clean, new product, sometimes with really "linty" fabric. If one of my machines hasn't been used in a long time, the first thing I do is give it a dusting, a thorough oiling, and check the stitch length and thread tension. As a matter of habit, the first thing I do when I start a new job is check the needle size and condition. Always! I am a stickler about oiling, too. Many of my machines are quite old (50-100 yrs.) and require very regular oiling. That's very common in elderly industrial equipment. The manual for my Willcox & Gibbs industrial rotary take up (c.1943) recommends a complete oiling every 4 hrs.! My brand new Juki sits in a pan of oil and never requires it.

Coming out of lurkdom due to a dire need for information. :) I have very curly hair. When pulled straight it is to the middle of my shoulder blades, but it draws up to shoulder length. Most days I wear it in a ponytail, because I run and work outside. Some days, I'd like it to look nice. I live in the South, with the humidity. I wear it long for two reasons: 1) my mother made me wear it short as a child, when all of the other girls had Marsha Brady hair. Everyone thought I was a boy. 2) If I wear it short, in the summer it looks like a Brillo pad. To those of you who referred to curl gel or other products, can you please be more specific? I want to be able to wash and go, partly because I've never figured out how to blow dry it without frizz. Also, I rarely want to take the time. I've tried a number of anti-frizz products, but have had no luck. Thanks in advance!

Artemis, same here! I must start sorting and discarding--we have the great luxury of over a year's lead time till we retire and transition to living in what is now our vacation house. I must begin working on the mammoth project of clearing out our home of 30 years. We're not hoarders but we have a full house of stuff, as everyone does and it cannot all go down there! I know the hardest things to part with will be the furniture and decor items that just don't belong in the new place; I've lightened up my 'tropical traditional' style considerably in our new house and I love the fresh look I have going down there. But oh it will be wrenching to give up things I've used and loved so long. I"m planning to start with the easy stuff-things that are not sentimental or in use. Friday is commencement day at my university which for those who work in higher ed is the official start of summer :). I'm going to try to discipline myself to either set a timer or make some job slips (clear a shelf/empty a drawer/sort a closet bar) and draw the winning task each evening since I won't be coming home exhausted and fit only to eat dinner and gaze vacantly at HGTV for an hour or so before heading off to bed.

I second use of the rubber hand brushes. Labs have a thick undercoat that is always shedding but even more so at the change of seasons. When weather allows, I use it daily on her. It really helps to keep her coat conditioned and she loves the “massage” brushing with it gives . Kong has one that is the perfect size for smaller hands and reasonably priced (5-7 bucks on Amazon) ETA: I know that diet has been talked about a lot here but a dogs smell and the condition of their coat can be reflective of their diet. If you change your dogs food from one with a lot of fillers in it to one that doesn’t have fillers (and it doesn’t have to be 100% grain free), within a very short period of time you will feel a difference in your dogs coat. The same thing goes with the smell. Dogs are notorious for getting yeast infections in their ears, between their toes and anywhere else that has folds of skin. There are yeast spores outside that could be the culprit or it could be the brewers yeast a lot of foods have. Either way, the Vet can figure it out with an allergy test and provide a fix for it. Our dog was suffering from frequent ear infections and itchy feet so we got her tested and sure enough, she is allergic to yeast and several mites including grain mites. My point is is that even though some dog breeds may need to be bathed more often than others, if your bathing because your dog smells, I would urge you to speak with your vet about it, because it could be something with an easy fix. Dogs need the oils that build on their skin for lots of reasons. Over washing will only cause their skin to dry out more and itch more.

I know it's not much of a savings -- but Bed Bath & Beyond carry the replacement heads. I always have some of their coupons -- they'll take expired ones too.

I change it whenever it looks ragged. LOL Like you, I have sonicare, but have had a hard time in the past finding the heads. Got several online, last time I found some.

Whenever I was sick, I just use boiling water to sterilize mine.

You are going to get "germs" on it the first time you use it. Germs don't wait 30 days and then attack a toothbrush on a schedule.

Replace a brush when it looks to be so worn as to not do a good job anymore.

I think the toothbrush manufacturers just made up that rule about replacing them at frequent intervals.

My only toothbrush 'attachment' is ME. Havn't replaced me yet -- only parts, like hips. (My dentist recommended against a mechanical brush for me. Too much wear and tear.)

I use a Sonicare, and change them about every 4-5 months.

Note to Oklamoni - I have found them just about
everywhere that sells brushes here. Have you tried,
Sam's, Wal-Mart, Kohl's, Target, even my grocery store
has them.

I use a Braun, and get the replacement heads at Sam's or Costco ... six for roughly $30. I change it out the first day of every month.

Wow..we have sonic care and change the heads every three months! We bought it at Costco,it has a sterilizer/sanitizer "thing", but I still buy the heads there and change them.
