Are Bra Straps Showing 'In Syle' Now?

I swear, everywhere I look there are women in tank tops..with their bra straps showing! Do they think it's attractive or is it just a way to show off what color bra they're wearing!

Yep, it be the style & has been for a while. (Altho' I am about as far from a fashionista as one gets, so don't go showin' your straps based on my observation. LOL)

I have heavy breasts and have struggled with bra shopping for years (anywhere from 34-36 DD-E). My issues were always neck and shoulder discomfort. I was introduced to the Fit Fully Yours line after a custom fitting at a specialty lingerie boutique that I had to drive 2 hours to get to (I live in the boonies). I was a bit skeptical because I'd never even heard tell of Fit Fully Yours before, and they're not cheap, but I bought one that day. Then I went back a few months later and bought another. Turned out to be the best thing I've ever done. I haven't worn another brand since, but I have no personal experience with their sports bra. (I wear the Maxine Moulded which says it is 'engineered for women with heavy breasts'... maybe that's mainly just marketing hoopla... but it's worked for me!)

I was a certified bra fitter at my last job. It was a ladies boutique that specialized in breast prosthesis and bras, and catered to the more than ample sized ladies with a good selection of larger cup sizes. It was a fun job. And at that shop, we always encouraged the ladies to stick with nude for their lingerie. These days I have to go to high end stores or specialty shops to get the size I need. Most stores stop at DDD. My description of my more than ample bosoms now at age 78 is 3 lbs of warm mashed potatoes in 4 lb bags. Knee slappers for sure.

running, one thing to understand in bra sizing that is so confusing is that a C cup in a 36 is the same size as a D cup in a 34. So if you go from a 36C to a 34C, you are actually shrinking the band size *and* the cup size. To keep the cup size the same, you have to go from a 36C to a 34D. If as with most women the band is too big and the cup too small, then to adjust for that she'd have to go from a 36C to a 34DD. I don't know what you mean by the straps riding up. If the band fits around your chest properly, it should manage 80-90% of your support and the straps should add only about 10-20% of the support. If the band is riding up in the back, it's too large and you should wear a smaller size. The band should fit comfortably around your chest, beneath the girls and it should stay fairly parallel to the floor across your back. The cups should accommodate the girls without wrinkling or gaping (cup too large) or without bulging out, or pushing the bridge...the part of the bra between the cups...away from your chest (cup too small). If it seems that the straps aren't long enough, it may be because the cups aren't big enough and the straps then have to come down too far in the front to reach up, over the shoulder and down the back.

Nekotosh, I am pretty shot at 5'2. I used to weigh around 95 to 105. Perhaps back then I could use those. Now, that age has cuaght up with me along with menopause, there is no way I could pull off a strapless or spaghetti sleeve dress unless I went on a hunger strike for a couple of months. That still would not pretty! lol

I notice a lot of young gals though have the cami's with the thin straps over bras. Looks cute with the right clothes, looks crappy with the wrong ones! lol

I think like Kat. It was a style for a bit but now it's become "acceptable". Not something I care for. The peek a boo lingerie look can look cute on younger ones who take time to coordinate. Downright ugly when being worn by out of shape women with gray bra straps. Trash.

Now panties,shorts and cracks showing are not cute on anyone past toddlerhood.

Back in the day when the see through look was in most of us were modest enough to wear pretty bras that showed through.So bras showing is not something new.

I remember when Helen Gurley Brown came out with her book Sex and the Single Girl she advocated wearing pretty lace trims slips and adjusting your skirt when you sat down so a bit would intentionally peek out. I must of driven a lot of male teachers in school crazy with that little gambit. LOL

When we gals would go on long motorcycle rides we would wear nice colored bras under our clothes so we could take off our shirts if it got hot just like the guys. I cringe when i think about nothing but skin between me and the road now but back then we were young and stupid. LOL

Well, at least they are wearing bras!

I think strapless bras just never really "took" with the younger generation. (I personally never liked them so I can understand). As with a lot of summer clothes, if you don't wear a strapless bra, your straps are going to show. I know they make the invisible strap, and those things that pull your straps together in the back, but I think for everyday, it's just not worth worrying about for them.

Doesn't really bother me.

It was hard for me to get used to this trend at first, but now it doesn't bother me much.

My personal style choice is nerdy, so showing bra straps is not for me.

Even sports bra's showing is in style. I admit......I put on a gray sports bra that is kinda high with an orange tank top that has a V-neck....the gray showed.....and I went running. :0)

I agree with wildchild that a prety bra with a sheer blouse is an OLD style....

Does anyone remember Seinfeld? In one episode Elaine gave a white lacey bra to a friend that didn't wear a bra @ all(as a hint) and she ended up wearing the bra ALONE, then her co-worker did the same thing....it started a trend! :0)

I noticed, one of my grand daughters has straps that look like they're plastic and almost invisible...She told me, she has a couple of bras that you can use these straps for wearing with tank tops....Looked good to me....

As long as the bra is clean, and is a color other than white, I don't care if bra straps show. At least you know she is wearing a bra. (To me, a white bra is in the same category as granny panties--something not to be seen.)

But generally, I don't worry much about what other people wear.

I'm with Kat. Guess they haven't been in the right line at Wal Mart to get the little gadgets one can reign in their bra straps with.
