GPS follow up thought

I was about to get up on my soapbox on jasdips thread but thought it would be better to start a fresh one instead of hijacking hers.

Bigbaby has her GPS but, I'll never part with my maps.

The kids all know how to read maps including a topographical map. I believe it's a skill just as important as knowing your multiplication tables and not relying on a calculator.

GPS, calculators, spell checker; if our technology ever crashes we won't be able to think for ourselves and be back to rubbing two sticks together living in caves.

Are we getting so dependent on technology that we are losing basic skills? Or is this no big deal? What are your thoughts?
