Vitamin D prescription

I had lab work recently and now my doctor wants me to start taking Vitamin D. All her nurse said when she phone me with the lab results was that my labs were "unremarkable"(?) but that the doctor has prescribed a Vitamin D (supplement) and where do I want the prescription sent? I said I would wait and call her back. It would have been nice to know why I need to start Vitamin D.

Of course I go online and look up Vit. D deficiency and read that it occurs primarily if you are a vegetarian - I do eat meat but not lots; don't get enough sun - what? I'm working out in the sun all the time, in fact just had sun damage removed from my lip; don't eat enough protein such as egg yolks - I eat eggs at least four times a week or more for breakfast; not enough dairy - I'm ashamed to say how much cheese, or cott. cheese I eat plus 2% milk on cereal. Vit. D is good for bone health tho.

My aunt and mom say yes - begin Vit. D. My insurance will cover much of the price.
