The way I feel about drugs, Jasdip, I suspect you lucked out by not being able to get in.

I took motherwort (in combination with hawthorne) during menopause, and was happy with that. I also saw a skilled homeopath who prescribed a couple of helpful remedies.

I can't take black cohosh due to palpitations, but I do take flax seed daily. My hot flashes and night sweats started back up again. I had been free for several months. I do notice caffeine makes things worse and of course stress.

I agree with alisande. I don't believe hormone durgs and menopausal stuff is something that women should do. My doctor wouldn't give me hormones because I smoked......I am glad now because many of my friends who took the drugs were having issues. My smoking wasn't doing me any good obviously but I already had that history and am thankful I didn't add bad hormones to it....The menopause issues do go away......

I was told it was a blood thinner and could be dangerous for some people. Probably for people like me. If I don't drink enough liquid or if I lift heavy things, I bleed.

My neighbor took part in a test and she really was sorry she started it. It involved years with the follow ups.

I tried to be a part of the first AIDS vaccine research study. They refused me because we were adopting a child in a few months. That was in 1983 when everyone thought you had to be gay to contract the disease. I had multiple blood transfusions so I was considered high risk. Had to be tested.

I was in a medical trial several years ago.......for pre-diabetes.
I lost a lot of weight and lowered my HbA1C but I suffered liver damage, very severe depression and hair loss.
I quit the study early and a few months later, the study was stopped and taken off the market in Europe.
Consider yourself lucky.

Concerning flax, I was in the grocery checkout today, noticed the woman behind me had almond milk and we started to talk about all the non-dairy options out there.

She said that there's Flax Milk, too (I think she saw it at Whole Foods) -- have you ever tasted it?

With all these new types of milk -- different soy varieties/makers, almond, flax, who knows what else, I always feel that stores should have a "milk bar" for tastings before we plunk down big bucks for that stuff!

Jas, I decided to just tough it out... and do the menopausal thing naturally... without taking anything.

It took a long time, but is basically over. There is still a hot flash here and there, about once or twice a month, but not multiples daily.

It isn't that hard. Our mothers (well, most of them) and grandmothers survived it, and thus, I thought I could.

Well, I feel, like I did.

I am glad, I didn't do the hormones, and all the other, is still messing with your body.

There were several friends with breast cancer, whose doctor told them, it was the kind fed by hormones. This was a pretty big scare to me.

I also think, you should consider yourself lucky, to have "failed" the screening for this.

The medical definition of menopause is no periods for 12months. Before that is called Perimenopause.

I have to agree with others who think you're better off without the drugs. Of course, if it was a blind study you may have been given the placebo instead of the actual drug--but then, you never know.

I had to have a complete hysterectomy when I was 47 and the GYN immediately put me on Premarin. I ask him how long I'd have to take it and he told me all my life. I came home and read up on it (before Google made life so easy) and decided after a year of worrying about it, I'd wean myself off it. Yes, I had hot flashes, but I had them with the Premarin, too. I took a low dose because the larger dose gave me "morning sickness" symptoms. Ick!

I have to admit I have a big aversion to drugs. I think they more or less randomly give you a pill for just about anything these days. Our body's know what they're doing, most of the time, anyway.

I don't trust drug companies & their "trials". I believe they are as crooked as a dog's hind leg. It is bad enough some of the already **approved** new drugs that are marketed heavily only to find out a few years later that they have major bad effects.... let alone being involved in a study. Nuh-uh..... not for me!

When they do their trials & present the research info to the FDA for approval, they will (as an example) throw out all the studies that have negative effects & go with one study that had positive effects. It might only be 10% positive.
