Nice photos of your plants - the 'colored calyx' types of sinningia are very interesting. It is my understanding that there are a couple of variations of Gabriel's Horn being grown, I have the one that has a base color of almost neon orangy reddish pink with magenta or fuchsia on the face of the flower. It is a dazzler. I also grow a variety called 'Party Dress' that has a colored calyx, it isn't a mini sinningia like Gabriel's Horn, it gets to be a fairly good sized plant when mature and has flowers that are like nothing else! You have very nice plants - this winter I have posted pics of some of the plants that I grow on several of the forums here at Garden Web thinking that I might get a half intelligent conversation going about plants - very few were interested enough to respond, either there just isn't a lot of traffic on the Garden Web or most everyone has become apathetic, which is a shame. At any rate keep growing those beautiful gesneriads!

Ha! Ha! Purplemoon! Starting bid is $350! (and it even has a small chip on the sugar bowl!) But I am thrilled to find out the history & now I will NOT put any pcs in dishwasher (no glaze on backside of dishes)...& the colors are perfect with my fav wallpaper (ivy) in the dining room! Earthy colors call to me! So these pottery dishes had to be made between 1946 & 1962...so at the latest, nearly 50 yrs. old! (or oldest, like me, born in '46!) LOL! Thanks, Purplemoon! Jeanne S. Patty completely agree with you, unfortunately mass media are focussing for a bunch of idiots. On the other hand, very sad, but interesting thread. HLB is supposed not to be here yet, but it will arrive because being of odious African psyllid. In the best scenario for us, we have a few (I think very few) years of advantage over you, and we probably will benefit from the excellent work of American scientists, which I think they are the only ones in the world who are seriously spending time and money fighting against HLB. Of course, logically, it will not be free for us, they will have to recover the investment. Hope that we, the home growers, will can use in a near future a easy solution for this pest. By the way, a very interesting recent (June 2015) document to control ACP: Imidacloprid: Soil Application to Non-Commercial Citrus Trees for Asian Citrus Psyllid Control And two important and calming notes from it: - Imidacloprid is slowly taken up by the tree roots and translocated through the tree’s xylem to the leaves and other vegetative plant parts. Insects that feed or suck on the leaves ingest the imidacloprid and subsequently die. A very small amount of imidacloprid may also be distributed to the fruit and flowers via the phloem - OEHHA considered potential exposure to imidacloprid following soil application by CDFA for residential control of ACP and found that consumption of citrus fruit is the only significant pathway. This pathway is quantitatively evaluated using citrus fruit residue data provided by DPR that is specific to the ACP treatment. The results show that imidacloprid doses associated with this pathway are relatively low and are not likely to pose a health hazard to residents whose yards are treated by CDFA for ACP.

Hi Dave, good to see you.. Well of course we have different rootstocks, so I can't say what result you'll have, but here my rose is conforming to DA's stated 4 x 3.. although it's 3 x 3 at the moment,. a rounded upright shrub, with a spreading habit, strong stiff canes, like a shrubby floribunda.. no lanky canes.. I don't have Emily Bronte.. I'm not surprised she's a climber in some places.. We've had a shocking Spring for roses, frosts for almost 8 weeks, so we're a good 3 weeks behind schedule in England.. I'm finding the blooms have a richer colour this year, lots of deep pink, lightening with age and warmth as it's nearly 80 today.. ..this first one reminds me of Augusta Luise.. ..love the scent on this rose..
