Gabriel Pasadena Pottery

OMgosh,. no wonder I had to go back & buy those pottery dishes for $35 ... description in my "Garage Sales...Heavenly" post.

Here's a link & I am finding out about this pottery...originally Winfield Pottery, founded in 1929, cont. production til 1962...began in Pasadena but moved to Santa Monica in 1946 ...after 1946, sold some of rights to American Ceramic Co...so began to mark their pottery "Gabriel."

My pcs are marked "Gabriel Pasdena" & then a number, like 295. Oh, I am thrilled...

anyway, the pottery looks like the first one posted on this link at e-bay ...creamer & sugar (which I don't have)!...kind of almond color & almost olive green. I'm thrilled! Jeanne S.

Way to go, Jeanne! That is so neat you found out the history of your new pottery set! So are you getting the sugar and creamer from eBay to go with yours?

Siren Red is nice too, but a smaller tree than Dynamite- Monrovia's site says Red Rocket only gets to 6-12 feet tall and 5 feet wide- that could be a good choice depending on the size you're looking for, but I really needed something bigger (I wanted something that would provide some nice shade and at an eventual 15-20' tall, 10-15' wide, Dynamite was a better choice for me). I considered Red Rocket too, but that variety seems even harder to find than Dynamite in my area (no one I talked to had ever seen it), and the difference between the 2 seems pretty minimal to me. Anyway, I planted my Dynamite today, so we'll see how it goes. I'm starting to think the guy at Armstrong that said all that stuff in my first post may have been confused or something.

Thanks, holiday-ers, for your kind comments (& funny ones, too!) LOL! ...yup, I guess "it" is a "boy" bunny...that pocket watch gave it away! LOL! I worked at "polishing" today...I like your fav solution, kathleen,... "that a friend would use to clean it for me! ...so wonderful that your Mom did that & that you inherited the silver. Well, I was afraid to do it...but I tried the "boiled water" theory on a couple pcs ... with the purchase the other day, I also got an old "tarnish remover plate" in a cardboard folder (probably from the 50's..."the fastest, easiest & most effective way to clean silver!" it says! HA! I boiled 3 big kettles of water, added the measured amts of Baking Soda & covered the pcs completely.... Sorry to say, all it did was SET OFF 3 OF THE SMOKE ALARMS here upstairs! So, back to the rag & polish...worked on 'em for 2 more hrs & said, ENOUGH! Here's pic: So, quite an improvement but will need more work! And, Jane, yes, it was fun to see more details...I'm glad you have this set, too. Some little pit marks on tray yet...will try to work on those later....much later! Yup, kathleen, "Frumps" is carrying what you think she is...LOL...that's why I thought it was a good gift for my sis turnin' 60! (& being such a GOOD nurse!) Thanks, everyone! 'appreciated! Jeanne S.

Thanks, gals...I did eye those plates & wondered how they would look with the Gabriel...& I really like them! I didn't get any place setting bowls with the Gabriel...only a veggie bowl. punk...yup, those little tree frogs turn bright "lime green" ... they are so tiny...I don't pick them up but my GKids love to! jane...I'm sure those hanging in your pots are distant relatives! Here's a pic from a few yrs back of my "peeper:" purplemoon...yes, the "enablers" do a good job here...& I'm speaking for "yourself," too! LOL! Love seeing your vignettes & your beautiful collections! luvs...I can send you some Hollyhock seeds if you want to e-mail me your address...they are such a lovely old-fashioned flower...my g'ma also taught me how to make those dollies as a child...makes me :-) Jeanne S

Ha! Ha! Purplemoon! Starting bid is $350! (and it even has a small chip on the sugar bowl!)

But I am thrilled to find out the history & now I will NOT put any pcs in dishwasher (no glaze on backside of dishes)...& the colors are perfect with my fav wallpaper (ivy) in the dining room! Earthy colors call to me! So these pottery dishes had to be made between 1946 & 1962...so at the latest, nearly 50 yrs. old! (or oldest, like me, born in '46!) LOL! Thanks, Purplemoon! Jeanne S.

OMG, I am so happy for you and your wall paper goes so perfect with them. Love these little snowies and such a pretty bowl with them.

The e-bay link no longer shows the $350 pair of sugar/creamer...don't think anyone bought them either! LOL! Hope you looked at my t'scape using these Gabriel Pasadena pottery pieces. Thanks! Jeanne S.
