Yes! Ed, Ole Joyful, stopped by on his way back from his family reunion. He looked rested and happy. I was so tickled to see him. We had a "real" Sunday breakfast together, complete with bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and jelly, fresh fruit, and scrambled eggs.

The best part was the wonderful conversation and fellowship. Ed is a very interesting person, and he's interested in everyone and everything. Wes and I are proud to call him a friend.

I had planned to begin a new tradition before his first visit. I want all the guests who eat with us to sign the underside of the table. (The inside of one of the drawers that pulls out from the end of the table, actually. They're easier to reach!) When he stopped by last week, I had forgotten all about "the signing" until after he left. As luck would have it, I now have his autograph on my Kitchen Table. I hope over the months and years, many more names will be added to it.

Stuff like this--definitely the finer part of life. What a wonderful visit, and the kitchen table idea is really good.

Susan, I first thought of the autograph idea when we got rid of the "original" table we'd had since we married in 1992.

It was the most awful, ugly, unstable table, and the chairs were worse! LOL It was one step up from cardboard construction, tiny, with four rickety chairs and a peeling plastic top that was hardley thicker than Saran wrap.

I tried everything to make it look decent. With the help of a neighbor, I painted the trestle legs and chairs; we put new fabric on the chair sets, and I assembled complete wardrobe of small tablecloths so no one would ever see the table top.

Still, after we put it to the curb (and some poor soul picked it up; G-d love them!) and bought the new set I couldn't help but think of all the many people that had sat around that table over the past 12 years or so. Once I got eight people around it at once because no one wanted to sit in the livingroom "alone."

I wished I had a record of them all. That's when I came up with the idea of people signing the new table, either on the back of one of the leaves, or inside the two linen drawers that fit at either end.

There are people that sat at the first table that are no longer with us, or have moved so far away it's unlikely to ever see them again. I'll miss having them around the new table.

I wouldn't mind renting him for a few days to take care of my squirrels! We had a surprise visit too, but no photo because we weren't fast enough. We had a groundhog hopping around next door - he even hopped up their back stairs onto the balcony. This is especially odd when you consider that we live smack dab in the middle of downtown Montreal - concrete jungle and all! BP

Hmmmmm....Tony brings up a good point. I never thought about there having to be TWO Queen Bees at my house, if I get a hive! ;o) Thanks for that info, Felix. When you come see me, you can help me figure out the best place to put a hive, and then I'll take you up on your offer in the spring. Just one question (anyone)...do I need any kind of permission to do this? Are there communities or towns that bar it for any reason? Will I need to keep it in an inconspicuous place so the neighbors don't get nervous? Oh, wait...that's not ONE question, is it??? Okay, I lied. But you see where I'm going with this. Thanks for the follow ups, really good information. I'll try to address each comment and ask some more questions. fluffybunnysui: The 1st contractor called me last night to ask about what I was thinking about doing to fix it. I told them I had a 2nd contractor come out and test it and told me the expansion valve. 1st contractor said that they determined it WAS NOT the expansion valve because they blocked off one side of the flow at/on the compressor, and the bypass valves opened and it couldn't suck the pressure all the way down.(I don't really understand how it works, I have replaced Automobile A/C but just followed basic instructions.) 2nd part: Both contractors said that they *think* the evap coil is icing up. Because we could turn the unit off for hours, let it melt, and then it would blow really cold again for a short time. Unfortunely for me, I had to leave the house today and go to work in a different city for the week. I can't spray the unit off, and my wife doesn't feel confident doing it, but the 1st contractor is due out to the house later today. thanks. Jack Mason: thanks, the 2nd contractor did show me their pricing on new units. Said $2,899 for a new evap coil and all related work. $4,600 for a 12 SEER outside unit. (my system is a 14 SEER I believe). Reading the link you provided now. thanks. Heatseeker: I don't know what refrigerant is used in my system. A quick web search points to R-410A. The unit is a Carrier unit, Model: 24ABA430A300 Serial # 4506E08945

I didn't mention that the message above was sent from a library near I-75, near London, KY. Being from London, Ontario, I'd gone in there on the same trip, three years ago, wanting to send some messages ... and, thinking that I was in a library, asked to use computer, and for internet access, to be met with some substantial reservations ... ... until I realized that things didn't look right for a library, and, when I asked if it were, was told that, no, ... it was a bank. So I dug out a one-Dollar and a two-Dollar Canadian coin from my pocket ... which they found interesting, as they'd never seen them. The library in London is not now operational ... they have a lovely, spacious new County Library near London. This is on Sunday afternoon, after the conclusion of the Korea Missionaries' Reunion. I enjoyed the gathering, what little of it I attended - mentioned some aspects elsewhere, earlier (regarding plans for Sunday, I think). Now off to visit my niece and family in Gainesville, GA. How fun that you got to see Ed again!

I love seeing Harry's ribbon.

I also love the idea of signing under the table. My parents had a pine kitchen table for years and they gave it to my sister. I noticed that there are all these handwriting impressions on the table top, from all the times we did homework or whatever at the table.

I think that it was one of those "under the table" deals, if you ask me.

Says Ed, writing from Munising, near Lake Superior shore of UP-MI, just east of Marquette ... and I told some other info about it in another post that I just made to the "Good morning" thread.

I'm hoping to be home late tonight or early tomorrow.

I got a spanking from Carol and Wes for sleeping in the car in their yard, not waking them on my arrival in the early morning.

Told 'em that I figured that they needed their beauty sleep!

I mentioned something of my reaction to the pics that Danielle posted the other day, that may bear reiterating here, for some of you who may have missed the other.

I've seen my portrait made by a professional photographer, a while ago, when they got out a church directory.

And I've seen my image in mirrors ...

... even gotten used to it!

But when I see some of these recent pictures, I think that I look like an old man!

Shocking!

Maybe less so in the one with Wes at the table.

Anyway ... I guess that one needs to age gracefully.
