My stitches are coming out in the morning...

Since this was the first time I've ever had stitches, can you tell me what to expect in the morning?

I'll be glad to get rid of them...

Being where they are, when I use my hand they pull and hurt. I think it is just because the palm of the hand is always being bent and stretched.

It looks reall good.

Doesn't hurt, but I still close my eyes and turn my head :o)

Ok, so I took this paper piecing quilting class in March. As we finished the class and were heading out the door, the teacher said, "Oops, it looks like I made a mistake in the pattern and she reversed all the "lefts and rights." So today I finished putting together the rows, laid it out on the bed to match the pattern and sew the rows together and it doesn't match. :( Evidently she shouldn't have changed the design after all. Now I have to rip apart 48 blocks, iron the seams, re-sew and re-iron the seams flat. However, I am telling myself compared to what much of the world is going through right now, this is nothing. It's just that I hate to rip! Always have. And I was looking forward to going to buy the border and backing fabric and hand quilting maybe this weekend when I go to visit my daughter. Sorry, that's enough whining for me. Since everyone has now sent their charms, why don't we call this thread closed and everyone start positing on Dan's part 2. See you there.

Use really good tweezers to help pull out the small threads. Now is the time to treat yourself to a new small sharp seam ripper. Removing any stitching makes me crazy!

I was just running some cloth through to see how the stitching looks, so the lines are only about ten inches long. I started and stopped after just making a straight line. The long pieces of thread at the ends can be pulled on and the thread unravels itself. But, I think that it is now obvious, as I've been practicing some more, that there has to be more to the stitch than just a straight line. I guess when a hem is made, the ends meet up and reinforce the start/stop point. Does that sound right? Also, as an example, if a pocket is being stitched, is it necessary to reinforce the beginning and end stitches by going backwards for a bit (is that called back tacking)? The more I practice, I think some things will become obvious, but I was just wondering what more experienced people know regarding a decent, strong stitch. Can I ask, how long have you been sewing? What was the first project you completed that you were so proud of? I've been talking about wanting to make my own curtains, so my husband bought me a sewing machine. Seems like I got a long way to go though:)

Thanks everyone and what a warm day it turned out yesterday after all that fog it got to 31degs. I love the damp foggy mornings also not that we get many here. Dee the garden is just about finished now though I did make a new bed for my Gerbera a few weeks back and I am thinking of another Rose bed but no more roses just giving them more space. We got 1200 used pavers given to us on Tuesday ( exchanged for hard yakka ) so I can see a few new raised beds getting made for extra vegies.. Hi Macbirch...I have a lot of Gerbera's now and those doubles are so beautiful and last a long time in the vase. Marion do you get Misty morning's like this..How is that packing going... Dear Rosalie::: No I have not mastered it yet..though I am trying hard between library books and video's and all those camera forums on the Internet...Today being a special day for me we are going into the big smoke to my favourite toy shop and Tony is going to buy me either another memory card two big ones are not enough for me or maybe a filter ??? Then there is that book shop, O decisions decisions but I will come back with something. Sorry I dont know the name of the Plumbago as I found it in a pile of rubbish when we bought this block it is not a really bright blue......Cheers...MM.

You will probably feel pressure being released in your hand that you didn't realize you had. It shouldn't hurt.

The only time I had stitches (also in my hand) I took them out myself.
It tickles a little, but it does not hurt at all.

They usually snip the threads and then pull them out one at a time with a twizzer like thingy.

Well by now...you should be stitchless! =) You better still take it easy with your hand...or you will be back there for more! AND...you shouldn't have to do ANY dishes for at least another week! Tell the guys...Dr. Katie (KT) said so! LOL

Well I went in there thinking it would not hurt...and the first one had me saying loudly..."OUCH" that hurts...

She said it was a little tight...the rest of them didn't hurt.

The way it was cut , everytime I move my thumb it pulls on the spot that needed stitches...and it still hurts..

Me never having stitches before I worry about it pulling open...so I butterflied across it for my own sake..Makes me feel better.

My aunt that raised me had surgery for something abdominal, I don't remember anymore what it was.
But she was still in the hospital when they took out the stitches and I was there visiting. Right after she got them out....she was sitting on the edge of the bed...it just started opening. This was all the way down her stomach (and she had a big belly) Scared the heck out of us...and the nurse...You should have seen the nurses scramble.

Now I know that would never happen to my hand...but I'll stick with my tiny butterfly for a bit...
Hoping it will quit hurting soon.
It's not a pain I can't handle...just makes me worry

Getting stitches removed is absolutely painless. I've had them several times. You'll feel "free" afterwards.
