Remember my baby Cardinals...

Remember that story...well if you recall while we were away of Father's Day weekend, they just disappeared. I was hoping and praying that they had fledged and just left the nest...however...I couldn't find any sign of them and I wondered how they got off of the porch. I was worried that Molly might have had a Baby Cardinal Dinner while we were gone..I know that fledglings stay on the ground sometimes for days so I thought sure I would find them around...No such luck...fast forward to yesterday...and there in a section of my yard close to the garden, was Papa and the two little Cardinals....As I understand it...Papa birds continue the care of the babies while Mama starts a new batch or hatch...so my babies made it out of the nest and are flying around....wonder when they will find my mirrors....

I remember your post well, Ruthie. I guess you can't get pictures, can you? I would love to see how much they have grown. Cardinals are such beautiful birds. I hope I have some this winter around the house. They come here and feed with us. But mostly seems like in the summer they stay out in the fields and forrest where we live.

Funny you should mention the Cardinal. I had never seen one before because we don't have them out here. We were vacationing in the South two weeks ago and saw one in Mobile, Alabama and another two days later in West Monroe, La. Everything was blooming everywhere we went and the Cardinal sightings were icing on the cake. Went to Chamblee's on the way to the airport for the flight home.

Oh, and I agree about rescuing them. She probably wouldn't mind. And I'd ask if I could. Also wanted to add that, instead of calling the "Hoes" upon my demise, I have made a book with all the plant information one could possibly need. All four of our daughters (who are now aged 18-24) are under orders to choose at least three each. In this way, I hope they learn to love gardening as much as I do. Yes, I know they'll end up on GW begging for care information for plants they inherited from their dead mother. Confession: I don't care. Whatever it takes. Gardening IS good for the soul. I truly believe that. I'm not above using guilt to my advantage, even in my death.

Yay!! Glad to hear all went well.

I have baby wrens in a basket on my front porch and a nest of finch eggs in a plant not 3 feet away from the wrens. I'll have lots of babies soon!

That's great news. Dad's probably teaching them how to find their own food. I don't know how many batches they have per year. Maybe there will be more.

I'm so glad to know the babies are alive and weren't a cat's din din. We are currently watching bluebirds in one of our birdhouses, hoping to see the babies when they leave.

Yaay for a happy ending!!! We have finches nesting in the roof supports of the carport beside DH's shop. When the babies are learning to fly, DH often has visitors inside the shop since he leaves the big doors open. They are pretty cute!
