I've read "Back on Blossom Street" and "A Good Yarn" both by her.......and have read others whose titles elude me at the moment. Budster

No, it is the local Goodwill in the next town. I work there. They have two Goodwills and we have one in my town. I just remember something about these plates. I bought one to check it out against some of my stuff. I think I will go back and pick up 3 more. NO, we haven't decided on anything. I just really wish I could "see" the proximity to places. I am so used to our coast area and knowing it and the areas. However, it was literally torn apart last year. DH is gone all this week on a golfing trip, so we have to decide what we are going to do when he gets home. He really wants to go for an extended time, but I am so afraid to book something. His brother was diagnosed with lung cancer just before Christmas and he is having lots of problems. I am really hesitant for us to book and have to make a rush trip home. He has been in the hospital numerous times since CHristmas and is again at the moment. We haven't told DH about this one since he was already gone and is worried about him enough.

My late MIL was like that, all the time, ALL THE TIME. I honestly think part of it is mental illness. She actually complained to me about being left with money, when her husband died. That she would have been better off if she'd been destitute. HUH? I came to the realization that complaining made her "happy". Her sick version of happy, anyway. Poor thing ripped thru about 2 million dollars in just under 15 years, I guess she was trying to get to that destitute level on her own. I have to distance myself from downer-types as they will try to drag you down with them and I refuse to go. And not only was she negative, she was needy, too. She needed to be entertained all the time and needed to go someplace every day. She wasn't happy just "being".

I'm not frieda, but IMHO I would have ended it when they finished the exhibit and went home. No scandal, no DaVinci code/Mission Impossilbe ending. The only thing I might have included - and was surprised that she didn't - was the visit Lola's real life person made with David, the son of the family who took her in. That takes place in the NYer excerpt and was very surprised she left it out. I can well imagine an editor insisting on some thrilling ending, which is too bad because in a book like this its the last thing you need. >This sort of novel will lead me on to other readings, hopefully, about the history of Bosnia, the former Yugoslavia, the Ottoman Empire, and the "Convivencia" time period of Spain's history Ones I've read: The Fracture Zone by Simon Winchester (non fiction), Birds without Wings (fiction). I also have read lots of history of the areas because I read travel narratives. I would recommend the classic Black Lamb Gray Falcon by Rebecca West - however its dated, and you'll get lots of gripes from all sides of the story of her different take on situations. But its worth reading just for the travel sections. I don't know any from the Convivencia period, tho I've read bits and pieces about it in other books. I'd love to know some of those as well - pass them on when you find them.

I checked with the school and they are going to let her advisor know that she has online friends just checking in. I didn't ask for any personal information, just that they pass on the message that she was missed. Gonzaga is a great school and they were very kind. Hope this helps : ) When I was at school (also by Spokane) it was not unusual to get messages to students in graduate and doctoral degrees. They are always so busy doing research, it's difficult to track them down.

I have read the Blossom Street Series (except 20 Wishes, the newest one), I have also read several others by her and enjoyed them all.

I have all of the Cedar Cove series but I haven't got them all read yet. I also just finished one called Changing Habits. It was good. I have lent it a friend. When I get it back, I will send it to you. I think I have the Dakota series as well.

Right now I'm reading her latest paperback, Someday Soon. I'm halfway done, it's good!

I have read all of the Cedar Cover and Blossom Street series as well as a few others.

I've read - and throughly enjoyed - the Blossom Street & Cedar Cove series. Excellent! On a waiting list for 20 Wishes....based on the number of people ahead of me, I expect to get it late August! :-/

Shirley,Goodness, & Mercy was funny. Go to debbie macomber(dot)com for a printable listing of her books. The only ones I've not been able to 'get into' was the Navy series. Don't know why...just the way it was.

I'll have to keep an eye open for Changing Habits and Someday Soon. If it's Macomber, I'll read it!

The majority of her books are re-issues from 10 years or more ago. Her Cedar Cove and her Blossom Street series are the newest and ongoing.
Her books are good/fun reads for Northwest readers,she uses a lot of local areas, as she lives in Port Orchard near Bremerton. Kathy

I love her books. The Cedar Cove & Bloosom Street were my favorites. I am on the list at the library for Twenty Wishes but I have people ahead of me too. There is another Cedar Cove being released in Sept or Oct.

I also use Paperbackbookswap.com. Great thing if you are a reader!
