I had a list when I was 14, and at the top was to marry a Danish girl and move to Denmark. My father found the list and tried to convince me not to marry a foreigner. I guess he might be a bit xenophobic, but that wouldn't have stopped me. Eventually I decided that I could never survive the winters in Denmark. I chose Denmark because I thought the Scandinavian countries were the most civilized at the time, and I liked their governmental policies. I think the next thing on my list is to visit the Costa Rican rain forest. I was hoping to do that either this year or next. I have several unfinished writings I want to complete, and the one I am currently working on is a comic book version of Maria Morevna and the Evil Sorcerer. It's been translated before, but I translated it from German and Russian versions which are more detailed than currently available English versions. Some of those were translated from French, and the French and English versions leave out the gory details of the German and Russian versions. Kevin is supposed to do the artwork for the book, and I am currently doing the storyboard for the comic book version. If we get it finished, we could propose that it be made into a movie. I expect the comic book to be about 50 pages, and so it's going to take a while. Lars

Oh, Sue, don't get discouraged and think no one is interested. I'd be willing to bet that as those younger generations grow up, at least some of them will get interested in the family genealogy and will be so grateful for what you have preserved! I don't know how old your son and daughter are, but I was 21 when my parents died (they died a month apart, and my 21st birthday was between their deaths). I certainly wasn't interested in family history then, but now, at the age of 58, I am obsessed with finding out as much information as I can. Daddy was in the Army and we were relocated every 2 years, including spending several years living in Europe, so I didn't grow up near relatives, or hearing stories about relatives or ancestors. I would give anything to have access to first-hand information like you have. Ron, bless you for preserving memories for your children, too, and for starting this thread!

You can also sign up to drive a car by yourself! Some of the directors where Robert works have done that at Talladega. Take a short class and get behind the wheel. He loved it.

The church my parents attended published a cookbook one Christmas with mostly Chechoslovakian and Polish recipes, and Perogis were spelled with an 'o'. I still use it for a variety of cookies I bake at Christmas that are probably not easily found these days~Ice Box cookies anyone? Nope, the onions do not overshadow the flavor, but Mom only added them to the potatoes. She sauteed(slightly)the perogis in butter which was first browned, then added. Mrs. T's just don't do it. I did find them handmade in a small market, but they were still too doughy. Maybe it's the freezing? There were never any leftovers at our house to freeze, so wouldn't know if freezing would compromise the texture of the dough. And I do remember Halupki, but not in soup. I make them but call them pigs-in-the-blanket. My best friend's dad, also Chech heritage, would make them and add to soup, and she said it was to 'strech it out for a few days'. lol So annie, do you just add the 'lone' ingredients~cabbage, ground beef, rice~to tomato sauce? And what is Krustchiti? Maybe I knew it by a different name. There's also a 'sour gravy' dish that my sis makes using pork chops. Ring any bells? Mimipadv, is that cabbage and noodles? That I do make! And speaking of pie crust, mine is a joke! I buy Marie Calendar's, frozen. ;)
